Help - restriction is fine but not losing
Woodys replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ICE CREAM.....what are you thinking girl? that is 100% fat! I'm surprised you aren't gaining more. You can still watch what you are eating and not feel deprived. Why not try frozen yogurt...for plain vanilla or chocolate its 132 calories per serving and has the same consistency as soft ice cream. If your yogurt server adds fruit the calories go up. And don't pick....plan your meals and be aware of what you are eating over the course of the day. When you pick you lose track.......who knows just how much of the bad foods you are consuming....just adding calories but benefiting from very little nutrition. I hope you get on track.....don't waste the benefits of such a wonderful tool...think and care about what you are doing. Carol -
?????????? I don't recall having to pay a huge fee to be able to read and post here????????? I think, for something that comes free of charge, I have received an excellent, informative, supportive and motivational forum. Personally, the way its being run right now and considering I get to read and post for NOTHING, I'd not question how the mods or how this site is being run......there is nothing wrong with the way its being run anyhow. Who said troll????.....whoever did, I think you have it pegged just right! Does anyone have a bridge for rent? Carol

I received the best treat on Friday.......a beautiful Mother-of pearl and silver pendant, and a silver and saphire pendant and earing set. I'm sure all of you can guess who from........of course, the Jewelry Goddess Herself........Penni! Penni was so thoughtful....she even chose to place the saphires into the silver settings because my birthday is coming up very soon. I have sent a private message to Penni to thank her personally....she did such a fabulous job and it was an excellent guess since I only wear silver and white gold. I encourage everyone to visit Penni's website www.pemerridesigns.com, her taste, creativity and craftmanship is second to none....you must see and try her delightful wares......treat someone with a gift of Penni's jewelry, they will be just as pleased and exicited as me. I tried to post a photo but for some reason nothing happens when I click on the attachment button?????? I will keep trying. Thank you once again Penni.....I will wear them with great pleasure. Thanks, Carol

I have 7 cc's. I feel some restriction but don't feel its enough. I am scheduled for another fill in 2 weeks and hope to up to 8 - 8.5. The post-op councellor at the clinic where I had my surgery said that the average level for maximum restriction is 9 cc's. Carol

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
Woodys replied to nursekathy2u's topic in Rants & Raves
Huh? I'm confused....or dumb....or naive.....or whatever. I opened 3 threads so far this morning and everyone of them expressed such anger...and none of it had anything to do with lapbanding? Think I'll take a break from this forum for awhile....getting way too ridiculous for me...my time is more valuable than this garbage I'm reading. Have a great time with your mud-slinging. Carol -
10 CC band- How many CCs to get restriction?
Woodys replied to Leona06's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a 10cc band and after my 3rd fill yesterday I am at 7cc. I feel like I have some restriction but I don't think I'm at my maximum restriction level yet. I probably will go in two weeks for another fill to see if this one will get me to my maximum. It may only take 1 or .5 more, its hard to tell. I ate a lean cuisine for dinner last night, I was kinda full but felt like I could have eaten more. Carol -
I was evaluated by the Dr. who performed the surgery. I am out-of-town in relation to the surgery clinic....so, after my initial consultation the Dr. phoned me. He asked me questions about my history of dieting, why I think I failed, did I have solid support from immediate family and friends, why did I chose lapbanding. I answered him truthfully.....it took about 20 minutes and he was satisfied that I was a perfect candidate. Carol

LOL..........now, see what you started Yoda! Carol

Is there something wrong with this thread? I can't read recent posts Carol

are you addicted to starbucks frappucinos too? then try this!!!
Woodys replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was the actions of one demented employee carrying out his own policy, not the policy or orders of Starbucks. Starbucks never backed him up, never defended his actions at all. He was dismissed....so, how is it fair to hold this against the corporation or any other employee on staff at the time? It isn't. Carol -
I don't quite understand the need for the appetite suppresant unless you and your Dr both feel that you could not stick to the pre-op diet. Personally....I'm with Paul and everything he said. Carol

We get a double seat all to ourselves on the bus. Carol

I would definately not take the clothes.....I wouldn't even start with that...it will only lead to other crap from her. Tell her you have your own plans for a wardrobe as you lose. If you are annoyed that she is putting pressure on you to compete with the weight loss, then tell her....she needs to know this so that you can get this monkey off your back! Cripes.....its hard enough as it is without someone like this making it a competition and adding insult along the way. You do your own thing, your way.......and tell her to back off! Carol PS...guess you can tell I don't take crap from anyone!...LOL

What do you say when people push food on you?
Woodys replied to sweetsue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a difficult time at first dealing with those who were nosey, or tried to get me to eat.....but I figured my business is my business.....I don't have to tell anyone if I don't feel like it....only the ones I want to know will know. At that time I struggled because I didn't want anyone guessing either...I'm very private about this. So, I was always trying to be careful not to say anything that would tip them off. Now.....the weight loss is noticeable so they obviously know that I'm doing something to lose weight. So...when they are nosey, or try to get me to eat more.....I tell them that I'm working very very hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle through healthy eating habits. If they persist....I get bold and tell them to stop attempting to sabotage my hard work and efforts....that always shuts them up. As for the nosey ones....when they want to know more like what plan or program am I on.....I just tell them that I'm following the food pyramid, making healthier choices and watching my portion control....which isn't a lie. Carol -
That is great news Penni! Do you do jewelry parties? Just curious.....cause I checked out your website and your stuff is just as good if not better than a party I attended recently....I couldn't believe the money this girl was raking in.....I don't there was anyone out of the 30 odd women who were there who didn't buy something! Carol

This one is my favourite.....and the most annoying: "how's it working for you......ya think it was worth all that money?" Carol

Lila..........where in Northern Ontario are you located? Regarding your fills....if it is going to a problem for you travelling to Toronto for your fills read my earlier post....scroll down. Carol

Hi: My husband and I own/operate a fine dining restaurant. He is the chef and I take care of the front of the house. I'm not sure what to tell you as far as what will work with your band (I was banded June 8th and so far have not had a problem). I can though tell you what to avoid. All sauces that say they are reductions of some sort.....they are very concentrated and do contain a lot of calories, most sauces........I have watched my husband make some of theses sauces and to reach the right consistency and flavour he uses tons of butter....I mean TONS of butter! If the menu item is beef, pork, etc and says that it is served in its own juices (au jus)...that may be okay however, be careful of fat rendered from the meat. Most professional Chefs today, with the exception of sauces, prefer to do all cooking, roasting, baking with extra virgin olive oil instead of butter. My husband tosses his vegetable medley in evoo and fresh herbs before plating to add flavour but when requested we don't coat them with anything. We have 5 Pasta dishes on our menu....one is angelhair which I have found not to cause a problem with my band....Al puts a little evoo in a saute pan, some garlic, tomato concasse (fresh cubed tomato), thinly sliced red onion and some s&p....he tosses the pasta in this saute pan and its a great dish...if I want protien I add a few shrimp or small pieces of chicken.......we sell loads of this dish and its my favourite. If you talk to your server they should be able to, and willing to, help you find a suitable meal. If you have questions just ask me...... woodys@sympatico.ca Carol

Hi Taymac: I was banded June 8th at the TLBC but live 2 hours n/e of Toronto. I own/operate a fine dining restaurant in cottage and tourist country and this is our busy season, we work 7 days from May to Sept....so, it would be absolutely impossible for me to get to Toronto for my fills. Kathy, the post-op coordinator at TLBC gave me a DVD to pass onto my GP who has agreed to do my fills even though he has never done this before. The DVD is produced by Dr. Joffe and gives full instructions on the procedure. I have had 2 fills so far and the only charge I have had to pay was for the bottle of Saline....$3.00...which should do me for all my fills. My GP got the fill bang on both times....I never felt a thing....it didn't take much of his time at all. I hope this helps. Carol

Ohhhhhhhhhh Boy.........I see this thread getting too serious now....it was a lot of fun in the beginning but now it looks like the serious side of some are coming out....not so much fun now...getting way too analytical for not much good reason. Another pet peeve about posters.....all the excuses for not losing or not losing fast enough.......haven't seen too many good reasons...just lots of excuses. Well....time to exit this thread...not much fun anymore. Carol

LOL Dawg....you crack me up It bothers the hell out of me when posters are asking the forum for advice on what to do during the pre and post-op diets when they have already been told by the Dr (the PROFESSIONAL) what they are suppose to do. It really gets to me that they don't understand that the professionals have reasons for what and why they give instructions....they don't do it just to amuse themselves. Carol

I can forgive the newbie that enters a thread asking a question that doesn't go with the theme of the thread....afterall, they may not understand how to manipulate and maneuver through the board. However, I'm with the others who are tired of reading posts from those who continue to make bad food choices and then complain, get depressed, etc that they are not losing weight fast enough. I received material from place of surgery that gives me enough information on what I should be eating and what I should be avoiding. The band is a tool.....not a miracle gadget. Seems to me that all comon sense just went out the window on that one.......C'mom people, PUT DOWN THE COOKIES! Carol.
