So I found otu today that my surgery has been denied and Tricare won't be covering it. I believe it's because I'm only 16 but my PCP is really pushing for it. We are going to try to appeal it but I'm so scared it won't work. I seriously can't imagine waiting untill I'm 18 to have the lap band. I wanted to be healthy and fit by then, I wanted to be able to live my life with out constant embarrasment by then. Yea I'm only 16 but I'm 5'1 and I weigh 271 pounds(and I've actually loss abit of weigth from the preop diet) I have back problems, I hardly ever get my period, and I can't go up a few steps with out getting tired. I really feel like I need this, nothing else has worked for me. I'm so worried, and feels like all my hard work has just been flushed down the toilet.

Soo upset...
kaitlynmarie93 replied to kaitlynmarie93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you guys so much for the support! Tricare Prime is the only insurance my family has, my mom called the actual surgeon's office today and he said more than likely I was denied because of my age because and because they can't garrantee I won't get pregnant in a year?! No way that's going to happen. Anways he said we have to wait untill we get the letter explaining why I was denied, then we can try to appeal it. My mom also made me an appiont with my PCP to see what else we can do. I know she's really pushing for it too. Your replies really do make a person feel better. So I guess it's not over yet. -

Tis is what I'm wondering, as I said before I am 16, about 5'1 and weigh about 264. If exercise atleast five days a week and do weight lifting and aerobics, do you guys think my scin will contract pretty well. Does my age help with the whole saggy skin issue?
-
I am currently waiting to be approved for surgery, and I don't know what it is but for the first time I just feel so motivated. I feel like I'm actually going to be happy about excercising tomorrow and every other day. I feel like I can do this, like I'm actually strong enough to create a new me and I love this feeling. Just had to share this, I am so excited.

kaitlynmarie93 replied to MissChristina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to be able to shop at stores like American Eagle, GAP, and Old Navy. My dream outfit isn't much but it matches my style, comfortable. A cute pair of skinny jeans with black heeled leather boots, a cute spagetti top and an awsome leather jacket. -

Post-Goal Weight Anxiety.
kaitlynmarie93 replied to jukebox81782's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
omg this really makes me feel so much better, I don't know what I would do if I had never discovered this site. When I'm nervous or upset and I go on here i feel so much better knowing there are other people who know just how I feel. I know getting surgery is the right thing for me. I am also scared about how i will look afterwards. I hate being this big but I have found ways to deal with it and to protect myself from getting hurt. I'm just scared that afterwards I'll look so different that I won't feel like the same person, and I won't have any defensive walls to put up when I feel really selfconseius. I know I just need to take it one day at a time and not worry about the future because in the long run I will be healthier and I know this will keep me on this planet longer. And Jessica ty you so much for posting this thread it's been a big help, and I wish all of you the best of luck. -
I am hearing so much about this six month preop diet, it scares me. I know it is to make sure you can stick to this long term but I just can't imagine waiting so long to have surgery. Yes I have waited my whole life for this but now since things are really speeding up I don't know if I could handle another half a year. Also I know of people who had to do the six month diet and others who didn't. Is it something that insurance companies request or does it just depend on what the doctors think or what??? I'm soo confused. And very freakin nervous.

Post-Goal Weight Anxiety.
kaitlynmarie93 replied to jukebox81782's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, I have not been banded yet but I have the same exact fears. Yes losing all that weight would be awsome but I don't want to look like a deflated blimp. I really want this surgery but I an too getting more depressed the closer I get. I know you can get a tummy tuck to take care of skin but that's alot of surgery and I know my areas that will have the most saggy skin are my thighs and upper arms. I want to be thin but I'm also really scared that I'll look worse after the weight loss. So really I don't know who all has delt with this problem but just know that you are alone. I hope yuo find your answers. GOOD LUCK with your journey. -
Family histrory of obesity, need advice
kaitlynmarie93 replied to staplegater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG this reminds so much of me. Most of my family is obese and we don't eat more than other families. Some people say weight has nothing to do with your genes but I believe it does. I'm only sixteen and I have been obese my whole life. My parents and brothers are also big but I'm pretty sure I'm the heaviest in the house. Just this past summer I weighed 212 now I weigh about 273, no matter what I try I continue to gain so this why I am going to have the lap band done. I don't want to be obese my whole life I want to be healthy and be able to enjoy growing up. -
Telling People You Are Banded?
kaitlynmarie93 replied to WannaBe1/2TheWoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I get banded I plan on telling people. I don't care if people talk but that's what people do. My family and friends are so supportive of me and I'm only sixteen. I want other kids at school to know I'm banded because I'm finally doing something about my weight. Plus if I get to my goal weight, I won't care what any one says because I'll be so happy about the new me and my journey. You just have to do what you think is best for your situation. Good luck! -
Getting The Lapband Done With Tricareprime
kaitlynmarie93 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My family has tricare prime because my dad is retired military, I was wondering; every who has had the surgery done with tricare prime, what was required for your approval? I was also wondering how long it took for some of you to actually get a surgery date. Were you required to do the 6 month diet? -
Is true You're not suppossed to drink any thing when you eat? Can you have any carbonation at all? For ezample if you drank less then half a can of soda would it hurt you?
-
Ok my mom and dad were being really supportive of me but now my mom is starting to be against the idea of me getting banded. She finally did research and oly read like one mean while I've read like 20 pages about it. She is concerned because she read that after surgey you won't ever be able to eat teh same things. She also read that after being banded you will have to take alot of Vitamins and supplements for the rest of you life because you won't get the proper nutrition. Is this true??? This is killing me, she's for it, she's not for it make up your mind!

My question is, can you feel your port when you touch your stomach? Is the port visable through the skin?

BIG Embarassing Moments - Fuel for Success
kaitlynmarie93 replied to Mamadot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last year in the ninth grade I was in my pottery class, the boy who I like so much was sitting at a table with some of his friends. When I walked by the other tables my but knocked someoes pot the table, it hit the floor and broke into several peices. When this happened the whole class started loughing. To make things worst the boy who I liked ever so much was also loughing and later on in the class i herd him and his friends making fat jokes about me. I was embarresed I had my schedule changed so i wouldn't have my pottery class anymore. I seriously can't wait until my surgery, I can't wait to start living.
