May 2019 Surgeries 🎉
Teri B replied to Ruby Hernandez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll do fine! I had my procedure the 20th and forget that I had major surgery! The first 24 hours are the worst. Just keep walking and do not be afraid to ask for pain or nausea medication if you need it. -

Post op Day # 5. I feel great. Hitting my protein requirements (the protein shots are great to get it in). Hitting water goals, no problem. Mild pain. I have learned I can not just take my pm meds and lay down, nope, I must sit up straight until they digest. I have only have been drinking water and protein shots or shakes. I did cook a tiny amount of chicken of mushroom soup and got it in. One can could be 4 servings easily. -
How sore can I expect to be post op?

Hi. I am on POD # 3 (surgery 5/20). I had a decent amount of nausea especially when I went to the bathroom or walked. I had pain about 6/10 for the first post-op day. They gave me IV pain meds and nausea meds. I also slept the entire post op day # 1 except to do my walks. i have taken about one pain pill at bedtime.the nausea is much better as well. -

Just took my first chlorohexidine shower. 2 more to go! Tomorrow is the day! Arrive at 5:30 am! -
Minnie. I am so hungry I can't think. I had to do all my flower beds and mulching today due to the weight lifting restriction after surgery. I now have 2 12-hour shifts to get through without killing anyone or fainting myself. Otherwise, I am ready.

to the OP. The abnormal EKG will likely buy you a visit to a cardiologist whom will probably order an exercise stress test. If the exercise stress test is normal, you will most likely be okay for surgery. If it is abnormal, you would need to get a cardiac catherization to make sure you have no blockages in your cardiac arteries. If you need cardiac stents or surgery, it will delay your WLS. Good luck! PS. It is sometimes normal for larger people to show abnormal on EKG d/t body mass.

Weirdest things you are looking forward to after surgery

I don't know if these are strange but: - getting on an airplane. I can fit in an airplane now but I want everyone around me to be comfortable. - so I can throw EVERY LAST ugly fat clothing I own away!. I have clothing down to size 16 and I can not wait until I can give it ALL to goodwill and start afresh! - to (eventually) have a boyfriend. Let's be honest, the only reason I don't is because I am fat. I do not blame men, I am not attracted to fat people either. It is a preference. - to have sex again without a tank top on. - to be able to clean myself better! It does make a difference. - to shop for clothes that I actually LIKE.. - to wear a non-skirt bathing suit. maybe never a bikini but a nice one-piece or tankini would be nice! - to prove T every one of the people talking behind my back, that I in fact can and will succeed... I am sure there are more! Teri -
I have been very Hangry!

OMG, I laughed really hard about your awkward male co-workers.. I can see this scenario so vividly in my head. I bet theoretical money this will happen as well.

Hi all. I am having the VSG on May 20, 2019. I am getting nervous. I have been reading posts on the forum and a lot of people seem miserable, which worries me more. I am assuming the anxiety is probably normal as it is a life change. I am in grad school and start my clinical rotations exactly a month out of surgery and am scared that I will be weak and it will throw off clinical rotations. Can anyone say that at one month out they felt okay to work long hours every day except one? Can it be done? Also, I know this is going to be different for anyone. How much weight will I lose the first month, second, third (average)? I am worried that I will not have clothes to wear to work and clinical. If I have a guesstimate I can semi-plan what size I will need and ask around. Thanks! Teri

Hi. I am having the VSG this month. I have not 'screamed it from the rooftops' but most people know what I am doing. I have had more negativity than positivity. I ignore the negativity. The fact is that most people are afraid to see others succeed because the 'world' has taught us that 'more is better' and if someone succeeds, they somehow we 'lose' something, they fear 'lack'. However, this world is plentiful and there is room for everyone to succeed. So I ignore it and go about my business because 'they' are not me. Hope this helps. (I will probably need my own advice, again) lol Teri

Teri B posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I just started this process and would like a mentor. Let me know if anyone is interested. -
Hi Everyone! My name is Teri. I am beginning the process of lap banding preparations. I have been through the seminar, sent in my paperwork, been approved, and have my first appointment with my surgeon on 3/9/09. I also will be starting a 6 month monitored diet required by my insurance (appointment 3/2/09). Though it seems like forever I am hoping to have the surgery in Jan 2010 (FMLA, STD will be in effect). Current Weight: 234 BMI: ~ 40 Goal Weight (determined by me): 130 Any Suggestions on making my process go smooth would be much appreciated!:confused: Teri
