Sort of good news today!! I got all the weight history to Lori in Dr. Dewitt's office. I'm so glad to have that complete. All the weights were over 35 bmi with my comorbities... she says it looks good. I didn't have 2004 but I had 2003 2002 and 1998... She can't file the UHC until next week because she is doing clinicals so it will be the week after next. The waiting will be terrible but at least I'm one step closer, right!!

The time is going by sooooo slow. I go back to the endocrinologist... on 7/28/2009. Thyroid surgery will be in August. I am so happy each time I read that someone has been approved. I so hope it will be me one day soon. This is on my mind all the time. I'm contantly on the internet reading other peoples experiences and what life will be like on the other side of surgery. I am so ready!!

UHC Insurance Question... I'm looking to see if there is anyone out there with United Health Care PC that was over 40 BMI at time of approval but did not have the required five year weight history. I'm wondering if they will wave the requirement IF you have high blood pressure and/or diabetes. I know some UHC does not require 5 year weight history. My insurance does. I'm hoping there is an exception to the policy. I am going to submitt my information to them and see but as I'm sure everyone here understands.... This is so important to me and I want this so I can feel better. I had to ask the question. Thanks for reading the post..

United health care 5 year weight history.
yzplnxg replied to jem8384's topic in Insurance & Financing
MandyClem... Are they all over 40 BMI? The reason I ask is that one of mine isn't... ? I do have high blood pressure that even with meds is still running 180/90, really bad asthma and acid reflux which I might make a difference. I'm hoping that helps me.. If they turn me down.. I'm gong to appeal. Im not giving up because I think this is my last hope of feeling better. We'll see.. :smile2: I'm from B'ham (your neighbor!!) -

Do you have UHC choice plus? Did you have all five years weights or was that even required for you? -

I wouldn't be worried. Until you hear something negative.. think positive!! They probably just have a heavy work load. This is around a holiday so probably there is a lot of people off work with it being summer!! Don't worry just be glad you are finally at this stage!! -
United HealthCare Five year history~?
yzplnxg replied to AvondaleGirl's topic in Insurance & Financing
That is wonderful!! Congratulations. I do know my UHC requires five years but I'm hoping with high blood pressure and other things that they might look over If I dont have every year documented. Until I have thyroid surgery........ all I can do is hope! After that, good or bad I will finally know. -
I took the radioactive iodine as well. Didn't work so Im going to have the surgery in August. Im taking the meds trying to get my numbers up to a level that the surgeon will accept. After I get this done.. hopefully WLS will follow soon.

Jem... How is your journey going? I have UHC also and I am trying to get together my five year history... I can go back ten years but its spotty like yours.. first Ive been on diet pills and many other yo-yo fad diets and lost for just a few months only to gain back the weight plus some and then Im like you my huge deductable kept me away from the doctor some years. I have to have my thyroid out before I can proceed with getting the insurance to pay. I would like to hear what your progress is.. -
I also have United Health Care.. 40 BMI and hypertension... I have hyperthyroid (taking meds) and acid reflux (taking meds). I have to have my thyroid out before my PCP will recommend me for surgery. My thyroid surgery is scheduled for August. I have already been to the nutritionalist, physical therapist. I have my psyc appointment on Monday. Lets keep in touch to see if we get approved. We might learn from each other... I have UHC through ATT and I'm from Bham Al.

My PCP is requiring I get clearance from my Endocrinologist. I have learned I have to have surgery to remove my thyroid before I can proceed with weight loss surgery. I'm on thyroid meds until end of July and hope to have the numbers down where they can remove my thyroid in August. I'm one the few lucky people that has hyperthyroid and are overweight!! :mad2: This week I met with the Nutritionalist and physical therapist. I have the appointment for the psyc exam this next Monday June 15th. Looking forward to getting one more thing behind me. One more stop toward the goal!! So when I get this thyroid thing taken care of.. We should be able to send the paper work in... to United Health Care. I keep thinking.. they can give me a chance to have a life so different.. increase the length and quality of my life. Their decision can affect my childrens life. By feeling better I may be able to have a longer career. I keep hoping... I will be one of the lucky ones that gets approved!!!

I go for my psyc exam Monday 06152009. I have to have my Thyroid out before my PCP will write the letter recommending me for surgery. I'm taking the meds to get my Thyroid under control so they can schedule my surgery. Should be able to have the Thyroid surgery in August. I'm trying to push to get the surgery before the end of the year due to a high deductable.. 2300 per year. ANY ATT United Health Care out there?

Hello! I'm 52 years old and after being overweight all my adult life, I've decided to finally do something that I hope will provide a permanent solution. I live with my twelve ( and a half year old son) and I am the only breadwinner so... it's very important that I get insurance approval. I have United Health care with a very high deductable... thanks to changes my company of 25 years sees as progress.   I've attended two lap band seminars and have seen my PCP to get his input. He says he will help me get approved by providing the documentation. I have my first appointment on May 30th with the surgeon. I hope to get things moving. I'm told by the insurance that it will take several weeks to get an answer after the documention is provided. I am so committed. Whatever the ins. company says I need to do.. I will do .. so my journey has started and I will post my progress as I wade through the sea of rules and paperwork to get to the beach I long for. One of my top 10 on my bucket list is to wear a one piece swin suit on the beach without a coverup and feel good. :crying: I want to be able to sleep without sitting up. Have sex without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack or smother to death. I hope to get off high blood pressure medicine and be able to have more energy so I can spend more time with my son. I hope this will help my asthma. I would like to let myself be photographed (full length). I've read several other posts which have been very helpful. I, too, look around the room to find I am the largest person in the room. I feel guilty eating in front of people. I can so relate to this group.. I long for the day when I can post my progress.. There are so many little things things I want to do. The rest of my bucket list will follow.. :rose:I'm ready to get started on this journey!! Nechole

I enjoy reading your post. I'm trying to get approved for surgery. I have United Health Care and they require one to document obesity for the past five years. I can document it much longer. I have been to two seminars and have my first appontment with a surgeon May 24th. I'm holding by breath that my PCP will be able to provide the documentation required and I will be approved. It's so nice to read these posts and know there are people out there that understand. Reading your post gives me hope that one day I, too, will get to have the surgery.
