How long has it taken to get to surgery
hallelujah.girl replied to hallelujah.girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to go to a seminar even though I had been to others. It was a requirement. My surgeons office it it very clear we were not to call them to schedule appointments, but they would call us. They send us post cards telling us where we are on the journey. I received a post card on Fed 9th saying paper work is being submitted to the insurance company. After not hearing anything for a month, I then called my insurance company. That is when I was told it had not been submitted yet. When it was finally submitted it only took 4 days. They called me saying they received approval but I am in the process of waiting to see my surgeion on April 13th another month of waiting just to see the surgeon. I know every office will be different, just wanting to hear from others how it has gone for them. Thank you for sharing! -
Congratulations! I've been waiting for a date since October when I stated this process. I go to see the surgeon on April 7th to find out my date. That's when things get real. Good luck on your journey!

I really need help deciding!
hallelujah.girl replied to skinnydesires's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started this process in 2005 and my insurance would cover RNY-gastric bypass but not the lap band. I have 2 friends that both had weight loss surgery. One had the lap band and the other had RNY-gastric bypass. The one that had bypass lost weight very quickly but after a year she stopped losing and is now gaining it back and looking into getting the lap band. She has malabsorbsion problems, her hair is very thin. (She had really beautiful hair) and she has to get iron transfusions every few months. She has had several cosmetic surgeries for sagging skin. The one that had the lap band lost more slowly and reached her goal weight and is still keeping it off. She does not have any health problems and did not have to have cosmetic surgery. I was really desperate to lose weight and thought I would do anything to achieve that goal, but after researching both I decided to wait until my insurance covered lap band surgery. I will be getting the lap band in May. -
Anyone with the band who don?t have time to eat at work?
hallelujah.girl posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 41 and I do hair at a salon and spa. I am about 6 weeks away from getting the band, and am starting to get a bit nervous. I have been very excited about getting the band, but the excitement is diminishing and fear taking ove. I sometimes have appointments back to back all day long and sometimes it is difficult for me to take even a few minutes to grab a quick bite. As it is now, when I do have 5 minutes I’ll go to the back and wolf down my food. This is worrying me because with the band I know I will have to eat very slowly and chew, chew, chew and chew some more. I am not allowed to have anything to drink (not even water) at my station. I have thought about keeping high protein shakes and soups around so that I don’t have to worry about chewing, but then I worry that I will be hungry all the time. Any advice is greatly appreciated. -

I am going to have the same problem, in fact not knowing about your post I had a similar question, but I have not had the band yet. What do you do? If you are at a desk can you keep Snacks there? If you had this job before the band would you still have had the surgery? I noticed you have lost 50lbs! Congrats!!! -
Question- Do you mix the pudding according to the package, or just dump the powder in with the tofu?

Updated Recipe, Peanut butter cookies
hallelujah.girl replied to shrek821's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am going to be banded in about 6 weeks, and I want to try a few recipes to see how much I will enjoy high Protein low carb foods. Okay, this is the first recipe I have ever tried and am surprised to say they are pretty good. I made a few changes and tried to figure out calories, but this is my first time so I may be off for some reason, if so just call me on it. I'd like to know if I did this wrong. I didn't have any splenda so I used stevia instead. Here is a conversion chart I used. Cooking With Stevia and Stevia Recipes I only used 10 packets because it was all I had. Got it form here STEVITA Stevias ($2.59 for 50 ct) I thought that was a good price. I'm going to get crazy with the math so hold onto your hats. Stevia has 0 calories and 1/2 cup splenda = 384 calories SPLENDA Splenda adds 25 calories per cookie Stevia ands none. So kick it up a little I added 5 chocolate chips to each cookie (not SF) there are 70 calories in appx 18 chocolate chips so 5 chips would be about 19.44 calories per cookie. I also wanted to try this with Protein powder so I made 8 Cookies without protein powder and to the rest of the batch I added 1/2 scoop of Chocolate unjury (50 calories and 10 grams of protein) and made 7 more cookies which only added apx 2 grams of protein and 8 more calories per cookie. http://www.unjury.com/reg/unjury-chocolate.pdf in a nut shell... these cookies with just subbing the stevia but adding chocolate chips about 5 calories less than the recipe above. with the protein added only 3 calories more but with 2 more grams of protein. Note: I thought the cookies with the protein powder were a little moister. Good grief I hoped that made since. I have never cooked with protein powder but have read that you can do so. -
I am just stopping by to introduce myself. I am very excited to have found this forum. I have not been banded yet but have begun the journey. I was just approved for surgery today after having my psychological exam. My next step is to meet with the surgeon. I have not officially heard if I have been approved for insurance but I meet I criteria, so I am hoping there will be no surprises there. I started this process 3 years ago only to find out that insurance would cover RYN but not the band. After the disappointing news I tried 1 more time really hard to lose weight and had lost 35 lbs, took me about a year, then started slowly gaining it back again. Fed up with the yo yo once more I called my insurance. Since then they have approved the band. Originally I had started the process with Dr. Malley in Kansas City, but when I started looking into it again he was 4 months out before I could even start seeing him so I did some research and decided to go with Dr. Hoehn. So far everything has been great and I am happy with that choice.
