    May 11th Surgery Stories

Congrats John! I'm glad to finally hear from you! Sounds like you are doing great! I wasn't really hungry either. I pretty much just had 3 shakes to get my protein in and sips of water throughout the day. The 1st 3 days are the toughest then it gets better every day! Beware of head hunger it's an evil thing. (not really hungry but want to eat!) I'm doing so much better with that.

Post-op diets! What are you eating?

I think you are not getting much response to this because when you are on Clear Liquids there is not alot of options. If you like tea you might try some flavored teas. I mostly just drank my shakes and Water. Some one had suggested on here once to get some egg drop Soup and strain the eggs. I did this but found it way to salty, but you could water it down. You could also try wonton soup. You might go to Arby's and see if you could buy some Au Jus, some restaurants sell french onion soup (you would have to strain the onions) Full liquids are a little easier I was able to start them on day four and is what I am on now. Here is a list from my surgeons offfice Liquid Protein V-8 Diet Splash Strained thinned cream Soups (this has given me the most variety) Lowfat yogurt thinned Skim milk and of course the other clear liquids. I know it's difficult but you can do it! The thing that helps me is find something to occupy your mind TV didn't work for me very well, too many tv commercials. I cruised the internet and read as much as I could got out side just to get out of the house.

    Banded May 6th

Hey Mac and Ann, what about creamed Soups? I've been having those and adding Protein powder and have been doing pretty good. I thought I had oatmeal in the cupboard but was mistaken. I was going to put that in my bullet to thin it some more, but since I didn't have the oatmeal I tried something else. Here's what I had... I pureed a 1/4 of a banana with just a tiny bit of milk, added unjury chocolate Protein Powder and some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) It came to a thinned pudding consistency and was delicious.

    Can everyone PLEASE post

I would like to hear from others as well, I just had surgery on May 6th and would like to see some results of others post- op only. You are doing awesome! I hear some don't lose at all but gain until they get their 1st fill. Looks like you are right on target at 2 lbs a week. Which is what I would love to shoot for. Plus your skin will thank you!

    May 11th Surgery Stories

Everyday has been better and better:thumbup:. The most difficult thing will be HEAD hunger. I was never really hungry but all I could think about was all the food I couldn't have. FYI that gets better too. Key is to occupy your mind as much as possible. And change the channel when commercials come on! It just goes to show you how much different we all are. You didn't have much pain at all but couldn't get any Water down, while I was saying hitting me with the pain meds every time they asked. I went through 2 styro foam cups of water in a half hours time. My mouth was dry and I couldn't get those "sips" in fast enough. Do you know if your doc put a small fill in your band? Some do and some don't. Mine did not, that might make a difference. So be sure to be sweet to your wife if she's not a big strong man like you. She could be a sissy like me. I din't start sleeping in bed until last night (4 nights after surgery)

    May 7th Surgery Stories

It's great to finally hear form you! I think Amy is right on. Even though I had mentally prepared myself for all this, it wasn't until I had the surgery that it became 100% real, no backing out, changing my mind or anything and I think everyone or most of us anyway go through a bit of morning period. I feel beth mentally and physically better each day!
  10. I'm so glad to hear you are staying optimistic! It is pretty easy while the wait is coming off. I've lost 7lbs as of today. YAY!

I understand the queasiness I was pulling of the tape on my incisions and it was sticking to my staples, I had to stop what I was doing and lay down for a minute.

I am just eating Campbell's. Yesterday I had tomato. I like most of their creamed soups in recipes, but I have never had them by themselves. Today I am going to try cream of mushroom. Others I will be trying is Cream of broccoli and cream of onion. They have others that I have never heard of before like, cream of shrimp, asparagus, and celery. I add unflavored protein powder to these and it's an easy way to get my protein in!

Easy way to get my protein in

Hi all, I can't really saying I've been hungry, but head hunger has been a big pain to deal with. I just want to eat for the sake of eating. Today I get to start having things other than broth and Clear liquids, yeah!!! I was mostly just having 3 slim fast shakes a day and as much Water as I could get down. I found if I drank juices it would just stimulate my appetite and make me feel sick or hungry. I bought some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate, vanilla, and unflavored powered whey Protein isolate to make shakes with. supplements for Everyday Health! High Protein and High Quality. I haven't actually made any shakes with them yet, but instead I am finding myself just adding a scoop to whatever I am having at the time. My slim fast only had 10 grams of protein in it, so I would just add another scoop to my shake making it 30 grams of protein in stead of 10 so just 2 of those a day would give me 60 grams of protein. Today for Breakfast I had 4oz of yogurt and 1 scoop of vanilla powered protein which gave me 24 grams of protein For lunch I will have some tomato Soup with 1 scoop of unflavored protein which will give me another 20 grams It's really cool:thumbup: to be able to add protein to your meals. Unjury is awesome!!!! If I was to only buy 1 to try it I would start with the unflavored it really does not change the flavor of what you are eating. 2nd choice would be vanilla because you can add it to almost anything sweet, then if you want chocolate flavor just add a little bit of cocoa. I am beginning to think I can do this with the help of UNJURY!!!!

Easy way to get my protein in

The unjury doesn't give it a weird texture but it does seem to make whatever I put it in thinner. YOU CAN DO IT!
  13. I am so sorry to hear that it took you forever to get your surgery in. That would have drove me crazy! It was bad enough just having to get there 2 hours early and wait. It is great that your husband is so supportive that really helps alot! How are you doing? I've been a little better each day, and I would have to say head hunger has been the worst for me! I'm not really hungry I just want to eat! I am doing better today. I can have a little more variety and am able to add thinned cream soups to my diet today that will help alot!

Hang in there, we can do this!

    What's for Dinner?

Drinking is pretty easy for me too, and I feel like there is nothing I can't eat, but I'm not taking any chances so I'm sticking to my surgeon's diet. Starting today (Day 4) I can now have the following in addition to my water juice and protein shakes.... V-8 Juice or Tomato Juice Diet Splash Strained thinned cream soups (without meat or veggies) Low fat yogart I have found it very easy to get my protein in today by adding unjury powered protein to my yogurt, and I'll probably add some non flavored protein powder to my soup today. On day 8 (only 4 more days) I can start having mushies.... I can't wait!!!!

It's finally great to hear some stories and welcome to the other side! You are all doing great! The pain does get better each day and I haven't been real hungry, but I do have to admit my head hunger has been horrible. Just trying to get through 1 day at a time. We can do this though! May 6th Surgery Stories

Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread for all of us getting banded tomorrow (the 6th) a place to leave our stories so they are all in one place. That way we don't have a ton of new threads (not that there is anything wrong with that) Maybe we can have a thread for those on the 7th, 8th, ect. Alot of the threads say "banded yesterday" or tomorrow or something like that, but then tomorrow isn't tomorrow it end's up being 2 or 3 days ago and then I get so confused:huh2: Just an idea:rolleyes2: Update soon to follow.
  20. My surgery was on May 6th and am not liking this clear liquids thing at all. My surgeons office called the day after surgery and I asked them about the clear liquids phase and I was told I cold have sugar free Jello, sf juice, sf popsicles, and broths. They also said I could have as many Protein shakes as I could tolerate and to sip on them through out the day. I have been sipping on Protein Shakes and Water through out the day, but the broths are salty and make me cough, which I would rather not do, and the juice and other things make me hungry. I keep telling myself I can get through this, I and I know I can, but I also go through periods of "What the heck did I do!!!!!"

    Milk of Magnesia MISTAKE

OMG I am sooo sorry to hear about this. No one needs anymore pain than they are already dealing with. Thank you so much for sharing and saving others to the possibly having to go through that as well.
  22. I am doing pretty well only sore around my port which is about 2" under my breast bone. It makes it difficult to get in and out of a chair, and take deep breaths. I would not want to have dry heaves or throw up ( I don't think I would be able to handle it!!!) Yikes, I so sorry you had to go through that!!! I slept in a recliner last night and probably will do so again to night. A heating pad on my abdomen has also helped alot. No shoulder gas pain, but lower, it is still pain full especially if it's a burp. Love the pain meds and I'm not ashamed to take them!!!

    May 6th Surgery Stories

So glad to finally hear from other may 6thers. Glad to hear everyone is surviving. I was told these where to keep the blood circulating which helps prevent blood clots. I just wanted to give you all an update. But first I am curious as to where everyone's port is located because that is the only place I am sore and I wonder how that might effect gas, and how well you are able to get around. Mine is located about 2 inches under my breast bone. This is making it difficult to sit up or lye down but once in position I am fine. It is also painful to burp. I mentioned earlier that I am a wuss when it comes to pain, so I have been taking my Lortab elixir every 4 hours. I was unable to sleep lying down so I slept in a recliner last night. Had a heating pad on my incision mostly all night. I basically get up from my recliner every 2 hours to go to the bathroom and walk around a bit. I haven't walked around the block or anything, but I do go out side and walk around the yard a bit and then come back in. Will probably go for a short walk later this evening. I have been able to drink liquids and have had 3 Protein shakes today and 3 12oz bottles of Water only sipping a little bit at a time. Have not gotten nauseous thank God because it would be excruciating to throw up! I haven't had any gas pains in my shoulder but have had it in my lower abdomen (still painful) and I must say music to my ears once I pass it! I went into surgery about 9:15 and left the hospital by 12:30
  24. Hey BANDitos!!! Although our band dates aren't here yet they are fast approaching!!!! Less than 3 weeks for me YAY!!! :thumbup:and WOW!!! Some of you have already started your journey with pre-op diets prescribed by the surgeon and others have decided to begin their journey on their own before being banded. I was wanting to wait but decided "why wait to start this life changing journey" I have talked about that little devil that sits on my shoulder tempting me through out the day. Most of the time he is very persuading and easy to give into. I've been telling my self for weeks to start exercising but until I committed myself to change I was just kidding myself. 2 days ago I kept trying to talk myself into going for a walk and finally succeeded. I had an errand to run and instead of driving the .75 miles it took to get there I walked. Yesterday I needed to go to the Library to return some books and talked myself into walking the 1.5 miles to the Library instead of driving. Today I have a meeting at the school that is 2 miles away and uphill to boot. I am planning on walking. Right now each day is a struggle to do whats best for me, whether it is making the right food choices or doing a little bit of exercise, but once I have made the right choice it feels great!!!!! So I thought I would start a thread where we can give ourselves kudos and back pats for a job well done. Even if it is not giving into temptation as small as one more Hershey's kiss after we have already had one or two (we all know how hard it is to stop) or whatever that day's temptation might have been. You know a woo hoo I did it! After the band we will have a tool and it will still be difficult, but right now it's just us baby and we all know how difficult the struggle can be, so here's to us!!!!
  25. Hope you are doing well1 Hope to hear from you soon!
