    Getting back in the sack...

Hey GR, I have not done the deed yet, but I can feel a hard bump under my incision and it hurts when i bend over ect., I also put my hand over it and put some pressure on it and it seems to help. It makes me feel better to know I am not the only one experiencing this. It sounds if it might be pretty normal. I to would like to know if it is the port or just the incision healing. I hope it eventually goes away! I'm afraid it is going to stick out when I lose weight if it is the port.
  2. Hey Cyndi, same here for me, thank you for your honesty. I feel great as well, except when I bend over, and such. I do not feel any restriction either. I have been good for the most part just eating cottage cheese, eggs, drinking my Protein ect., but I do not feel any restriction so i tried a piece of very thinned crusted pizza and chewed and chewed and chewed to baby food consistency. I felt like I could have eaten another piece but didn't. Like you I wish I could feel what it feels like to get full or stuck to learn a lesson. Although I did cheat that once I am still being really good and I'm only eating about 1000 calories a day and I'm not losing any weight which is pretty discouraging. (I know we are not in the losing weight but healing stage) but still..... The info Special K helped me too, thanks Special K for telling it like it is.

    Ok so, sleeping....

I slept in a recliner the first 3 or 4 days after surgery, then moved to the bed with lots of pillows behind my back for another couple days. Then I was able to sleep on my right side but not the left for a couple of days. Definitely needed a pillow to help support me when on my side. I'm a stomach sleeper and was not able to sleep on my stomach until about 2 days ago.

    Anyone Start Exercising Yet!!!....

I've been walking a mile a day every other day. I have been looking for a gym to join but haven't found one I like. I am going to be looking into Curves. I would love to find a gym with a pool and do water aerobics, but everything is about 20 minutes or more away. I could walk the Curves though it is about a .5 mile from my house.
  5. Yoga is a great idea! I was thinking about joining curves, but don't know if I am quite up to it yet. Maybe in another week. My 1st goal was to hit wonderland by the first of August, but I think I'll be there a lot sooner. I weighed this morning and was at 211. so I'm down 1 more lb since surgery for a total of 14 lbs. since surgery, but 18 for the whole journey.

  6. Wow, that really bites! You are the one who started the whole May shout out thread. I didn't realize your date had changed. Well that is just 2 weeks away. That is my middle son's birthday. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Let me know how you are doing when you feel up to it.

  7. I'm doing good. I have only lost 1 more pound this week compared to last week I was down 9. I am feeling great though, haven't been hungry but do find myself "wanting" to eat. The only time I'm sore is if I bend over to pick something up or something like that. How about you, how are you doing?

  8. Congrats on onderland!

  12. Hello, I had a BMI of 43 with no co morbidities. I am a bit older than you with a history of trying to lose weight only to gain it back over and over again. I don't know if that will matter because I have seen lots of young people on here that have been approved. Good luck to you and let me know how it goes.

    Incisions

I was told the same thing, but I am tempted to put something on them to help with scarring. I had staples and then at my post op they pulled them out then put steri strips on but they have since fallen off. So now what????

    Band Brand?

I have the Allergan Lap-Band small. I asked at my pre op appointment which they used and they said they wouldn't know until they get in there. I'm short (only 5'1) and they said it would probably be the small one because I have smaller organs but if I had a lot of fat around my stoma then they would have to put a lager one in.

    Food Question....

My surgeon says eat protein first, then if you have room, veggies, then fruit. He says we will fill up fast so make sure to get your protein in. I think that would pretty much be considered a low carb plan.

Not for the squeamish or shy...

I was a twice a dayer morning and before bed. Sometimes an occasional surprise. I've gone twice since surgery (9 days ago) I asked my doc at my followup and he said not to worry, a lot less is going in so a lot less will come out. Made since to me. I will hate being constipated though. I usually sit down do my business and I'm done. It usually doesn't take me any longer to poo than it does to pee.

    Surgery Date: May 26

Welcome! you can find the list of others being banded the same day as you here http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f18163/list-dates-only-93389/
  19. I went for my 1 week followup appointment and got my staples out Yeah! I have to admit I was a little nervous about it. They only ones that hurt coming out are the ones where my port incision is. It didn't hurt that much just stung a little bit. I didn't even feel the others come out. Here is the awesome news! I'm down 9lbs since surgery day, and 13lbs since my pre-op appointment! Never ever ever in my intire life have I lost 9 lbs in 1 week!!!! I know that is not something that will happen from here on out I here 2 lbs a week is average. That is my goal. I hope everyone else is having good if not better results than me. I talked to 2 girls at the doctors office that had the same surgery date as me and they where down 11, and 13 lbs awesome!!! The surgeon and dietician said I can start solids today (cottage cheese, string cheese, eggs, refried beans) as long as it is soft and soft Protein only! Yeah!!!!!

MAY 2009 Bandsters - shout out!!!

Frank, I was supposed to be on clear liquids for the first 3 days after surgery as well. But I was also told to drink as much protein as possible. I didn't every try these but GNC has clear liquid protein drinks and protein shots too. I hope that helps.

    Emotions about surgery

Hey It is amazing who so many of us feel this way. I could have wrote this myself. Back in 2005 I went through the whole process of getting the band only to be turned down 3 months into it. I was having those exact feeling then but I still wanted it so badly. Well since I had those feeling about maybe I should have tried to lose weight before I try surgery I decided that I would do it on my own. I lost 40 lbs yeah me!!!! I went from 236 to 195 and was feeling awesome. I was 38 and 1/2 and it took me about 8 months to loose that. By that time I got to that weight I was approaching 40. Well when that hit me I decided I wanted to lose another 20 lbs before I hit the big 40! The only problem was that the scale started going the other way. I was beside my self. I didn't want to , couldn't gain weight back. I was feeling great and didn't want to go back to where I had just came from. Well despite my attempts to continue to lose I ended up gaining 30 back. I had a thought maybe my insurance was now covering the lap band. Well yeah they where. After saying all that...Even this time I was saying to myself do I really need surgery to do this? I still went through all the emotions you mentioned above. Even after surgery I was questioning why did I do this. Even when I just had the answer. It is just a tool. It is still up to us to make it work, and I have to keep telling myself that. If I think the band will do all the work, I will fail. I was talking to my sister who is very over weight and she like to garden so I used this analogy. I asked her if she would rather garden with her bare hands or have a small spade to help her do he work. She preferred using the tool to help her get the job done. Yeah she could do it with just her bare hands, it would take her a lot longer, and she may give up along the way because it's just to much work. Using the spade will still take work but it will be much easier.

My surgery is tomorrow and I'm really nervous.

good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! I did not have a fill and am not scheduled to get one until June 16th. I was hoping for sooner! I had surgery May 6th. I'm down 9 lbs in just 1 week!
