I am doing great, down almost 30 lbs since my surgery May 10. I cannot wait to get my fill next week! Since all the swelling in my stomach has gone down I can actually eat so I am more hungry with each passing day. My soreness has been gone for about 2 weeks and I am feeling great. Everyone is saying they are seeing a big difference already so that helps with my motivation to keep up the good work!

Hey Guys I had my surgey on 5/11 and I am doing great! No hunger, the onlything that sucks is the lack of sleep. Thank god for my liquid hydrocodone! How is everyone else doing? If you have any specific questions feel free to ask! I go back to work on monday, so I am pretty excited... Soooo happy it's done!!!!!!!!!!!:w00t:

I figured it was time to start a new thread! I was thinking last night, after you get your surgery and start losing weight what are some things you are looking forward to do that average people take for granted? I am talking about simple, every day things that are hard for you or make you extend a lot of energy. One of the things I am looking forward to is getting out of the shower and drying off and doing my night time ritual without getting out of breath. It really frustrates me that I get tired doing that . What are some simple things you all are looking forward to?

Today I start my full liquids! No more water, juice and broth! My first thing I drank was a SF carnation instant breakfast (chocolate) with skim milk. It tastes amazing! lol. So from now I can eat/drink smoothies, protein drinks, SF jello, pudding and popsicles, and broth till next monday then I will be on mushee food. So far I have lost 5 lbs, so excited. How are all my fellow bandsters doing?

That sucks, I can't lay flat on my back yet, I have to sleep propped up still because I am still sore to lay completely down. Hopefully I will be able to sleep normally this weekend so I can be fully rested for work on monday.

It will be ok. As long as you have lost weight on the pre op die that's all they care about. I did cheat like a couple times but I didn't gain any weight, I still lost weight on my pre op diet so it was ok. Plus, my dr. said I had NO fat on my liver at all. So I was like DAMN, all that 3 week dieting for nothing! lol.

I just bought the shake n' take smoothie make off of solutions website, since starting tomorrow I will be on full liquids and I wantto experiment with smoothies. If if works as well as everyone says it does I am going to buy the extra bottles and make an extra for lunch and put it in the fridge at work that way you don't have to worry about taking the blender with you.

Since we are nearing our surgery dates, who all here has to do some form of pre-op diet? I start my 3 week pre-op diet today and I'm a little nervous because it's a part liquid diet and I hope I don't sabotage myself. I work full time and go to school at night on monday and tuesday, and I have late classes, so hopefully I can stay strong and not cheat because I am starving! My diet is drink 2-3 protein shakes a day with two snacks like fresh veggies or non fat yogurt, and then a lean dinner of chicken or white fish with vegetables. What does everyone else have to do? It's scary and exciting my surgery day is 3 weeks away!!!!!
-
Wow! I don't think I would be able to make it with just liquid only! Are you not allowed to have healthy snacks in between or just only liquid for 2 weeks? My first week is almost over with and I must say it's been pretty easy, but I think it's because I have to do it for my surgery so I am more apt to stick with it. I have already lost about 6-7 pounds since I started tuesday. Next week will be 2 weeks away! Good luck on your mother's day brunch, can you not even eat a salad?

I am in Winston-Salem and I am getting my surgery done at Baptist Hospital by Dr. Fernandez. I am so excited because I was a little worried about my out of pocket expenses, but I found out my that employer pays $2000 of my deductible! Yay!

Congrats ausamerican33!! I am in NC too! You are getting your lap band the day I go in for my pre-op visit.

My husband is like that, whenever I diet and exercise and do really good he always tempts me with something I shouldn't eat because I am doing so good he thinks I should cheat every now and then. He's gotta learn he can't do that anymore! You just gotta keep telling them no and let them know that even after your surgery you can't eat like that anymore!

Guess what??? My surgery date is definitely May 11th! The scheduler called me this AM and told me my insurance approved me and I will be getting a call sometime soon to set up my pre-op appt....ahhh so exciting!! It's actually happening! So happy for everyone else who got approved and will be getting banded around the same time! yay!!:smile2:

April 8th! WOW, congrats! I hope you have everything in order cause that's next thursday!:frown:

Trust me when I found out last October, 3 days before my surgery, that I couldn't get the surgery then I was devastated! Even though I had spoken to my insurance company at least 3 times about this waiting period and they assured me it didn't apply to this. But anyways, that is all in the past and now I am just super excited about May, since April 1st is tomorrow! For the 3 week pre-op diet you have to drink Protein shake things either 2 to 3 times a day, I am gonna do 2 because there is NO way I can survive on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. I don't wanna sabotage myself, so it's part liquid and then just lean meat and fresh veggies. I just hope I can make it past the hunger the first couple of days, I just know it will pay off in the long run!:smile2:

I met with my surgeon Friday, March 26 and I am having my lap band surgery on Tuesday, May 11 and I was considering having the SILS procedure as opposed to the regular way. Has anyone had the SILS done and if so do you have any after pictures? I am interested because if I can limit the scars on my stomach I would rather go with the SILS. Thanks.

Awesome! That would be great if you could send me a pic, if you don't mind? You have put some of my doubts at ease.
-
YES, it is the single incision but they go through the belly button and put the port near your belly button. My concern is my belly button is gonna look stretched or deformed in some way, does yours look the same before surgery? He did inform me it would take about an hour and a half as opposed to an hour the regular way, but I'm ok with that.

I will be getting my band on May 11th, I have waited a long time since last July because I had a one year waiting period on my health insurance and now it's finally happening! I already did my psych evaluation last year so that's already done, and I have already met with the nutrionist so I start my 3 week pre op diet on April 20th, and it is all happening so quickly. Great to meet other people who will be banded in May as well!

Hello everyone, I am from Winston-Salem, NC and I am thoroughly considering the lap band. I have been overweight all of my life, ever since I was born. In high school I really lost control of my weigt and reached 214 lbs. After I graduated I started dieting and exercising and lost around 50 lbs. I stayed around 170 lbs for a couple years(which was my lowest weight since I can remember), then due to several circumstances started to put the weight back on. At the end of 2006 I weighed my heaviest at 250 lbs. Keep in mind I am 23 and 5'6 in height. I started dieting and exercising again and got down to around 220 lbs. Since then I have stayed at that weight and can't seem to budge anymore. I feel like I am on a perpetual diet getting nowhere. I have kept up with the lap band over the past year, in a couple of months I am getting really good insurance through my employer and hopefully might be able to get this. Just wanted to know what you all thought about it. All advice is welcome! Thanks. Mary

Family Doctor or Bariatric Surgeon first?
GSNC posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do I have to see my family doctor first and then he recommends me to a bariatric surgeon? Or do I just make an appointment with the bariatric surgeon? Thanks
