This happened so fast. I went to an information session in April, had my psych, nutriionist, and other required appointments in May, and the surgery was approved in June only three days after the surgeon's office sent in the approval request. My insurance is Preferred One and their normal policy is to have you go on a diet for a year prior to approval. Since Dr. Baker's office is a "Center of Excellence" they approved it right away given my co-morbidity issues. My surgery was originally scheduled for 7/15/09, but had to be rescheduled because I developed shingles. I was successfully banded 8/12/09. As I write this I am only 4 days into it and am experiencing normal discomfort others have (pain at port site, referred pain in the shoulder) and look forward to that subsiding over the coming weeks. I will attempt to go back to work tomorrow as I find I can function pretty normally and coherantly after taking my pain Rx. Dr. Baker told my husband he put a smaller band in, so I would experience more rapid weight loss right away. He was right. I am down 4.5 pounds in 4 days. That is even after losing the "liquid weight" from the fluids pumped in via IV. I was up 5 pounds when I came home from the hospital, so I lost that then the 4.5 pounds.
