I'm hoping he at least cuts my time down on the line. I'm on it 24hrs a day, and it's just draining. Even just having 1-4 hours off of this line would be some relief. I'm scared to death of coming off it, and having complications from this thing. I am just exhausted right now, and trying to not get whiny.

I failed a leak test on Friday, June 5th. I hadn't really felt that great all day, my temperature was up and down most of the day. Low-grade fever, but still a fever.

80 lbs already lost and still losing
Tiffykins replied to KathyG's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and thanks for sharing your story! ! ! -
I found out this afternoon that even if I don't have a leak, and that my labs look great, I will have to be weaned off the TPN. I probably have 1-2 more weeks of this crap. My time attached to the bag will be reduced over that 1-2 week time period. I guess it's better than never getting off of it, but it sure was disheartening when they told me.

Sleeve vs. Lap Band
Tiffykins replied to time2enjoylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't eat salads with the band until the very end when I didn't have any restriction, and even then lettuce was not a good thing for me. . . I can't wait until I can have salad and actually enjoy it. -

Surgical Tape Allergy
Tiffykins replied to DownInSocal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same allergy, and just told them to use other tape. I also have a sensitivity/allergy to latex, band-aid adhesive, and many other skin allergies, so my surgeon and hospital staff all made a true effort to not use anything that would cause problems. I would call your doctor and ask if you can take an anti-histamine, or use any type of cream to help with the itchiness. -
Yeppers, he told me to not even worry about protein the first 7 days. Another girl, who had the sleeve here with a different surgeon had the same instructions. I am hoping come Monday, I can start clears and will be ecstatic just to taste water/broth/powerade zero/water with the Special K protein packets. . . This TPN is wearing me down! ! ! The TPN bag has 80 grams of some sort of protein, and think that's the only thing that keeps me from napping all day.

Thanks Mac ! ! !

My surgeon told me not to worry about protein during the clear liquid stage, and to focus on getting in the full 64-80 oz of clear liquids.

I hope tonight you are able to get some answers and be able to figure out which surgery will be best for you.

Is the sleeve a second WLS surgery for most?
Tiffykins replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would really do some research on that little tidbit. From my research, the sleeve has a lower regain stat, and the initial immediate weight loss is similar between the sleeve and RNY. I considered both as well, but I knew that malabsorption was not for me. While, I feel the band failed me as well, I was successful in the beginning when I had restriction. That is why I chose the sleeve, a strictly restrictive will work for me, I didn't want to deal with dumping, or having another pouch. Plus, the actual removal of the stretchy part of the stomach along with removing the ghrelin hormone from my body was pretty much what led me to my final decision of the sleeve. RNY has never really been an option for me, I've seen too many people regain, or have other complications that just have not be found in sleeve patients. My insurance covered both procedures 100%. I have Tricare prime (military spouse insurance), my husband is active duty Air Force. It is great insurance, but there are hoops I had to jump through to get there. -
The Special K Protein Water powder mix is one of my favorites. It's 30 calories, 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of Fiber with a 16oz bottle of water. I buy the powder packets of the Iced Tea flavor, I don't like the pink lemonade or the kiwi strawberry flavor. Other than that, I'm of no help hun.

Sleeve vs. Lap Band
Tiffykins replied to time2enjoylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my band placed October 1, 2008. I had complications with my port from the beginning, but my old surgeon ignored my complaints and requests for months. I did lose weight initially with the band only due to the liquid phase diet, and restriction I had from swelling. Once I started getting fills, problems with the port became more apparent. My port had flipped within 3 months of surgery date. I had chronic pain and when I say pain I mean level 6-8 pain on a daily basis, I couldn't bend over my washing machine to get the clothes out, my husband and I could not be intimate on certain days, in certain positions, the port moved and would cause the tubing to "tug" on my actual stomach. It was pure hell. I started researching revision in February, and knew that I would have to change surgeons because mine was completely inept to my concerns. My quality of life was piss poor to say the least, and I was so tired of being in pain every day of my life. The first week of March, I went in for a fill under fluoro with my original surgery, he couldn't get it under fluoro, now mind you I have not had restriction since before Christmas and am gaining weight back that I had lost. Even with 3 fills, I still had no restriction. Anyways, I finally decided that something had to be done. My husband is Active duty military, so I had to navigate through the HMO insurance system, but did get the referral I wanted to a surgeon who I had heard great things about, did my research, went in for a consult, and told him my story. He wanted to just reposition the port, but I told him, it's more than my port now. It's the band is actually being pulled, and I want the band out. He agreed to do the revision. I had revision surgery on June 3rd, and couldn't be happier. The surgeon removed a great deal of scar tissue, and he said I had several adhesions to the tubing of the band. I only had my band for 8 months, I can't imagine having it in there for years, the damage that would of been done to my stomach scares me to no end. No one could pay me to get another band in my body. The sleeve made me nervous at first since 3/4 of my stomach would be gone, but the band scared me more. I knew that I would never reach my weight goals, I would be in constant pain, and the band would eventually cause me more grief. I am in that 1% of the sleeve population to have a leak. BUT, leaks are three times more likely to happen with a revision, plus, I had a lot of damage to my stomach tissue from the band. I don't regret getting the revision, leak and all, I'm pleased with the sleeve thus far, and have a long road to recovery, and am looking forward to this new journey. -

Tiffykins replied to roseyandmusic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting your date moved up, and how exciting about your dad going with you. . . I did low carbs before surgery, but I stuck with chicken, low fat cheese, salads. I'm not a fan of eggs or pork. Congrats again ! ! ! -
No, I didn't get a card for getting the sleeve. I have to take those out of my wallet, update the DMV with my clotting time disorder, and the fact that I have a sleeve now. The evil step-sisters are naturally thin. Well, T is a size 2 after 3 babies all under the age of 5. M is really evil, she's ballooned up because she was recreation taking Prozac when he husband left her. She's now remarried to a heavy guy, and once told my step-dad "I don't know how you can go from having mom (size 2, big huge fake boobies) to having Allison (my mom)." She was a size 20 at the time of their marriage. It's been hard being around them and my mom and step-dad have been married for 9 years this upcoming November. They always made horrible comments about my weight, and me as a person. M made comments this last Christmas such as " how did she ever land him?" (talking about my husband being so good looking). I'm hoping this year at Christmas, it's a different story, it's just so defeating. T and I have gotten so much closer, she's let it all go for the most part, and really has embraced the marriage between our parents. . .

When I very first had the band, my son and I would share a plate. I was only questioned once, and I pulled the little Lapband card out of my wallet, and said " do you need more of an explanation? " The manager came over and apologized. We ordered an "adult" meal, and my kiddo ate most of it. I got the spare plate. We were just at a Logan's Steak house, and I never had any other problems with any other restaurants. My mom, brothers, and step-dad were the only ones who knew at Christmas time that I had lapband done. My evil step-sisters still don't know, and they won't know about the sleeve. No one noticed at Christmas that I ate tiny portions, and steered clear of all the desserts.
