What tests did your doc order at 3 months or so?
Tiffykins replied to dharma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That looks like what my surgeon ordered for me last month with the exception of #6. I'm not saying he doesn't have that one performed, it just doesn't look familiar to me. All the other ones, I've seen on my lab results, and will be having the same panels pulled tomorrow. -
Some NSV (and a scale victory too!)
Tiffykins replied to Malaika's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks ! ! ! He'll be home next week sometime. I missed his 5 calls this morning because Caysen got sick at school, and I left my cell phone at home when I went to pick him up. Least to say, I am so furious with myself. -

surgery on the 31 and I am still in the hospital
Tiffykins replied to heftynetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded October 1, 2008, flipped port happened soon after. I was ignored for months by my first surgeon about the flipped port and abdominal pain. After 6 months, I started looking at getting a revision to the sleeve. I found a surgeon who agreed it needed to come out, and was able to have the revision covered by insurance due to the tubing of the band actually tugging on my stomach and causing increasing pain. Plus, I had 2 fill attempts under fluoro that were unsuccessful due to the flipped port. I had my revision on June 3rd. On June 5th, a leak was found during my last leak test with gastrographin and the cat scan. The top portion of my stomach was damaged by the band, and had weakened the tissue. I was immediately sent to the OR for the leak repair. After the leak repair, my lungs would not recover. I landed in critical condition on a ventilator for 3 days, and spent about 4 days in ICU. Finally moved to a regular surgery floor, and was released on June 12th with a pic line (kind of like a central line catheter) in my left arm, and went home on TPN for the next 10 days. The TPN was discontinued, and the line was pulled on the 24th of June. I started Clear liquids. I left with 2 JP drains in my abdomen, and while at home I had a home healthcare nurse come in every few days to change my pic line dressing. I had a follow up on July 9th where a UTI was detected. Levaquin antibiotics, and I went home. I had family over during that week. They left on Saturday July 11th. On the 13th, I was taken to the hospital again because of severe abdominal pain, cramps, and I knew I was dehydrated. They did a leak test again, and there were 3 Fluid pockets/abscesses found, no leak. 2 in my abdominal cavity, 1 in my pelvic cavity. Unfortunately, I was admitted for treatment. I had to go to a interventional radiologist so they could place a different type of drain in my abdomen. Unfortunately, they could not reach the one in my pelvic cavity. In hopes the antibiotics would resolve them, I was hospitalized for 1 week then released. I went home on 2 antibiotics, 2 anti-nausea meds, and pain meds. I had follow up appointments a couple of weeks later with more ct scans, and the drains were eventually removed. I have been off all anti-nausea meds for about a month, and have had no further set backs in my recovery. The most challenging aspect for me has been eating and getting in my Protein. But, every day has gotten a bit easier. I am now able to eat 3 small meals a day, and protein is still my arch nemesis, but it's getting better. Even with everything that I endured with this surgery, I have zero regrets. I know that the band would of continued to damage my stomach. Every day brings a new challenge, but I know that I made the very best decision to have the band removed. -

I'm so elated for you Shanda ! ! ! I will definitely keep you in my prayers for tomorrow. -
Awwww Daisy, I'm deeply saddened for your losses. But, know that I'm here if you want to chat. I agree with Susan, you'll be stronger and more determined in the end.

surgery on the 31 and I am still in the hospital
Tiffykins replied to heftynetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just want to you to know it does get better, and we're all thinking of you. I hope your recovery becomes easier, and you feel much better soon. I went through a very similar situation with my leak and leak repair surgery. -
I had a really similar situation after my leak repair, I spent 3 days on a ventilator in ICU. Once I was released after 9 days in the hospital I was on TPN for 13 days, and had JP drains for a at least a month. I know how miserable you are feeling, but please know it does get better. I'm praying and thinking of you. And my husband was (is still deployed) during my revision from band to sleeve, and his unit would not allow him to come home to be with me. Even after everything I went through, I have absolutely ZERO regrets.

Surgery date getting closer!
Tiffykins replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorites were the Caribean Cooler, and Cappucino. I drank them both in the beginning, but my body started to not tolerate it. I even ordered a tub of the Cappucino, but I started having bouts of diarrhea when I drank it. A lot of people love the Fuzzy Navel flavor, it was just "ok" for my tastebuds. -

Christian, single mom's, I need to talk to you!
Tiffykins replied to Jesus68's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just noticed you are from Cleburne, Tx. I'm from a little town near Weatherford, and call Bedford, TX my home because I lived there for so long after getting out of school, and my parent's home. -
Congrats on your amazing results! ! ! Keep up the great work. . .

Christian, single mom's, I need to talk to you!
Tiffykins replied to Jesus68's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, and first off welcome to the board. I am not single, but am of the Christian faith. I truly believe that God is in control, and there are no unanswered prayers. You may not get the answer you want, but your prayers will answered. I have not been in your exact situation, but I truly believe this " Trust says God can, Faith says He will." I live by that every day. Your reasons for considering WLS again are very valid. I do empathize with you on that point. I wanted to feel better so I could be a better mother, I wanted to be more active. I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I know God will bless you. -
The only reason I haven't ignored anyone yet is because they at least give me comic relief, and help me realize that I hope I never become a bitter, vindictive person.

protein supplements - at week 5
Tiffykins replied to Bob_350lbs's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
They have so many different brands of the bullets now. I've seen Super Whey, EAS makes on, and then the New Whey ones at GNC. I have some EAS ones in the fridge right now that only have 26grams of Protein. I bought for "emergencies". I plan on picking up more of the New Whey brand at GNC. I get a case (12) of the New Whey for around $30, and they have 42grams of protein per bullet. -
I'm 3 months out, and just started noticing considerable amounts of hair in the shower and in my brush. I talked to the nurse, and she said considering my complications, and all the stress my body went through, she wouldn't be surprised if I lost hair even if I had been getting in the necessary protein. I have super thick, coarse hair so losing some won't be noticeable. My main concern is not being able to get it under control.

I've tried a few of the clear Protein drinks. I'll look up the one you've suggested.

protein supplements - at week 5
Tiffykins replied to Bob_350lbs's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I drink the bullets cold mushed up with a popsicle. That's the only way I can tolerate them. -
Hi Tania, and welcome to VST. Congrats on your surgery, and I look forward to following your progress. My husband is Air Force, and we're stationed at Hurlburt Field, FL. I write poetry as well, and have 1 son, Caysen, who is 11 years old.

Most sleeve Drs out of country?
Tiffykins replied to betrthnever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sentiments exactly. It's like high school all over again. "I'm gonna go tell on you" is so juvenile, and who cares if there is a difference of opinion. Perception is so individualized, and can be skewed. Build a bridge and get over it. -
