Hi there, and welcome to the forum. I agree with everything that Vegas stated. My husband was initially concerned with me having WLS. I simply told him either I can do this, and get the weight off, or I can die 10-15 years earlier because of obesity related health issues. I also informed him all of my family history of heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and etc. It's your body, it's your future health, you can't do it for anyone but yourself, and if he can't be supportive then you don't need him. I'm sorry to sound harsh, but there is no reason for him to stand in the way of your future goals. I'd be absolutely furious if my loved one tossed something of mine, and tried to sabotage my success. Find another bariatric surgeon, attend a seminar, you can do this, and you can be successful. Don't allow someone else's ignorance defeat you.

Congrats Jenn ! ! !

I'll definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. . . Post an update when you are able to do so.

Judy, I'm sorry to hear that the surgery has been canceled, but it maybe for the very best. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but you'll want everything to be "good" before surgery. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and remember this is just a "speed bump", it isn't a complete road block. Keep us posted with your results on Monday, and take it super easy this weekend.

My first major NSV (Non-Scale Victory)
Tiffykins replied to gms1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's such an amazing accomplishment. Congrats on your success, and best wishes for many more NSVs in the near future. -
I'm glad your appointment went well. Exercising does help, but I am lacking in motivation, severely. I'm joining the Y so I can use the equipment plus do the fun dance classes they offer.

Thought I would hop into chat for a bit tonight if anyone is up for it. I won't be up late tonight due to early morning bowling, and lots of errands to run tomorrow.

Hi Kelsie, this is such a personal decision, and really research and a little soul searching are the main options. I can tell you why I chose the sleeve vs. the RNY when I revised from the band. 1) regain stats for the RNY are scary in my opinion. I know several people who have regained a significant amount of their weight back within 5 years of surgery. A lot of RNY patients seek a revision, stomaphyx, shortening the common channel causing even more malabsorption, or going with a DS (which the sleeve is the first part of the DS procedure) 2) Rerouting my intestines, and changing the natural digestive process was not something that interested me at all. 3) The nutrient deficiencies with RNY due to the malabsorption really bothered me. 4) I wanted the freedom of being able to eat whatever I wanted. With the RNY, you'll deal with dumping if you eat something with fat/sugar. If I want to have A cookie, I want a cookie. 1 cookie isn't going to kill me. 4) I was a volume eater. I was not a junk food/sweets eater. So, I knew a restrictive procedure would work for me and my lifestyle. I wish you the very best in your decision, and if you have questions, please feel free to ask. If we don't know the answer, we'll do our very best to find it for you.

I did chew and move the mushy foods around in my mouth before swallowing. That helps with the digestive process. It also allowed me to taste the food which I missed the taste of food severely through my 17 days of clears. Chewing well through the mushy stage helps train you to eat slowly, in my opinion. It helped me get the texture of food down with zero issues. I promise it isn't difficult. Mushy foods still need to chewed unlike clear or full liquids. I wouldn't want to swallow a bite of mashed potatoes without chewing a few times, and getting the good ole' saliva in there to start the digestive process.

I will be completely honest with you. I had horrific complications, and would do it all over again within a blink of an eye. The life that I am leading today is only because of the sleeve. The life that I will have in 20+ years will be even better because of the sleeve.

I'm glad you emailed Nina. I'm sure they will give you the best advice. For myself, and my son, we do not get the flu vaccine, nor will we get the H1N1 vaccine. My husband is required to get both due to being in the military. I told him it's just great that the military members are the gov'ts lab rats for all of those vaccines. He gets one vaccine( I can't remember which one it is), but it forms a blister on his skin, then it opens and oozes everywhere. We're not allowed to have any physical contact when it opens because I could contract the virus he's being injected with. ICKY.

Since this thread popped back up, and the husband has been home almost a month, I thought I would update. All I have to say is, "HELLO Stamina, where did you come from?" I used to get very "tired or winded" and now that problem has completely disappeared. My confidence behind closed doors has hit an all time. I haven't EVER, and I mean EVER had sex at my current weight so I wasn't sure what to expect. Least to say, it's been nothing short of fabulous. I'll also throw out there that since I've lost so much bulky belly fat, and my general "roundness", positions that were never remotely possible before are now not only possible, but pleasurable. I didn't really think that my weight loss would effect our sex life to this degree. I'm not even overly self-conscious of the extra skin, and general "flabbiness" that I have right now because everything else is so amazing. Losing this weight has seriously been the best thing in the world to ever happen to me. I never knew what all would change.

2 weeks and 3 days out and stalled already!!
Tiffykins replied to Kikiphiasmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is healing, and wondering what the heck is going on. Stalls happen at different times for everyone. Some hit when they incorporate mushies, some hit it they start full liquids. A stall doesn't happen unless you aren't losing weight for a consistent, solid 14 days. So, if you lost 28lbs in less than 2 weeks, then you haven't hit a true stall. Like Lib said, back off the scale. Increase your Water intake, move more. The scale will move again. Your body maybe holding onto some weight kind of as a survival tactic. Your body has just been through a traumatic experience even though you feel good, your "insides" are still wondering " umm what did she do to us". -
1 month out - feels like day 5 again...
Tiffykins replied to barefootinablacksea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I am so sorry to hear you are hospitalized. I had a similar hospitalization with the abscesses in my abdomen, and one in my pelvic cavity 6 weeks after my leak repair. I had drains placed. The antibiotics made me very nauseated, and they gave me phenegran, and zofran for the nausea. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and keep us posted on your recovery. -

I agree with you whole-heartedly. The support I've received from this forum has been my lifesaver, and main form of support. I don't know what I would of done if I didn't find y'all. -

Tiffykins replied to twobluecats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We live in Florida, and so badly want to venture to WDW. They are giving free admission for military members, and a $99 week long pass for spouses/children. Unfortunately, I don't think we can cram a trip in there with all the traveling to WV and TX during Caysen's school breaks we've already committed to do this year. -
This was our first deployment together as well. So, I know how tough it can be. I agree with your husband, think positive, and for me, my recovery kept me distracted from him being gone. We managed great through the deployment. I'll send you a message with my contact information phone, AIM, email and so forth. I know deployments suck, but keeping busy is the key in my opinion. You'll do great, and like I said, we'll all be right here with you. This board was a lifesaver for me while he was gone, and my main form of support because we are away from family and friends. The members here kept me sane, and focused on my recovery.

We'll be here for you. My husband was deployed during my surgery, and I made it. Plus, we decided that he wanted my progress to be a surprise. I only sent him 3 "face" pictures while he was gone. At the homecoming, he looked at me, looked away and kept walking because he didn't recognize me ! ! ! It was amazing to see his jaw drop. He just got home 3 weeks ago. I went from a size 22/24W to a loose regular 16 upon his arrival at the airport. If you need or want a deployment buddy, or someone to vent to, or just be there for you, I'll be more than happy to share my contact information.

When is it ok to start drinking coffee?
Tiffykins replied to charitymarroquin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just pulled out all my post-op stuff from both the band and the sleeve procedures because I remembered one of them going into details about caffeine consumption. The information stated that caffeine can and does destroy vital nutrients and Vitamins that aid in healing after a surgical procedure. It will flush out essential Vitamin C, and destroys Iron. I decided to get geeky, and googled it for more information. There are plenty of publications if you want to read further about the ill effects of caffeine on nutrients and vitamins. I googled "does caffeine impede healing" and "does caffeine destroy vitamins". Loads of articles pull up that are interesting reads, and really puts things into perspective when you recently post-op.
