That's called the slimies, or foamies. I couldn't tolerate any of the unjury Protein drinks. Sometimes, it happens when you drink/eat too fast, or one sip/bite too many. At least that's the only time it's happened to me. Unjury all foamed up when I mixed it with Water, so I'm assuming it can foam up in your tummy.

So round in the middle, it is strange to see yourself as others do.

Why VSG instead of Rouen-Y
Tiffykins replied to OldAv8tor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats you both of you. I can give you the reasons I chose a VSG instead of RNY for my revision. I think it's really hard to call the RNY the gold standard when I see and hear of so many patients seeking a revision in 3-10 years because their stoma or pouch is stretched, or they are no longer malabsorbing, and the regain stats are just scary in my opinion for RNY. I chose VSG instead of RNY because I was not interested in malabsorption of Vitamins, nutrients, nor did I want to deal with rerouting of my intestines. Also, if I needed malabsorption, I would go with the duodenal switch. The sleeve is the first part of that surgery, and based on my lifestyle, I knew a restrictive only procedure would work for me. Also, with RNY, they leave that "blind" stomach in there, that can still be diseased, cancer-ridden, yet it can't be scoped, so there is another surgery to fix those issue. I was a volume eater. With the sleeve, 4-6oz of food is very satisfying, and I'm beyond happy with my results. In 6 months, I dropped over 100 pounds with the sleeve. I only technically lost 7 with the band before I revised to the sleeve this June 2009. Also, I prefer to take Advil or Naproxen for pain. With the band, and RNY those are big no no's. I had the band because I was so against RNY for my lifestyle. I was not aware that the sleeve was being performed in our area, or I would of chose it first. Best wishes to you both. -
Heftynetty checking in again!
Tiffykins replied to heftynetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My heart just absolutely breaks for you. I could never find any decent documentation on the stent repair for leaks. My leak was repaired by suturing the tissue together, and then I was NPO for 3 weeks. I really don't know what to say other than " I'm here for you" and I hate to hear that you're having to endure all of this. My prayers and thoughts are with you. -
Thank you all so very much for the encouragement. I did tell my mom that my latest labs from last Wednesday were all within normal levels, and that included my Iron, vit d, b12, and my CBC was perfect. Sincerely, many thanks. I was really worried that I was starting to look "icky".

That's awesome news Lee ! ! ! I really didn't have any concerns about long term results with the sleeve since it's been done as the first step to the DS, and gastrectomies have been done for decades. I read a lot of information on just gastrectomies, and it was comforting.

Want to set a surgery date with Dr. Alamaza
Tiffykins replied to Brendasgonnalose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not one of his patients, but here's a long thread with information about Almanza, the facility, and a lot of patients have posted their experiences in this thread. It's an extremely long thread, the last few pages have the most recent experiences listed. http://verticalsleevetalk.com/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-vsg-surgeons-hospitals/1334-dr-mario-alberto-almanza-reyes-18.html -
Good job on getting everything in order pre-op. Remember that post-op, a lot of patients experience change in our tastebuds, and things that tasted good before surgery, taste disgusting afterwards. Don't get too discouraged, they change back. Stay positive, and I hope you have a great weekend.

Congrats on your loss thus far. Keep working your sleeve, and move to foods that you are comfortable with. Take your time, and keep up the good work.

OK, now I'm torturing myself reading food blogs
Tiffykins replied to joon's topic in Food and Nutrition
Joon, I was completely NPO for 22 days. I could not even have ice chips. I became obsessed with the food Network shows. That's all I watched, and was worried I would love the passion I have for cooking great meals for my family. Food does taste better now. I enjoy eating again, and have found that I enjoy finding new recipes, and trying new spices/flavorings. I did quit cooking for a little bit because John was deployed, and it was just myself and Caysen. If I did cook, it was minimal. It's okay for you to feel those feelings. It's normal, and kind of expected. -
Sounds super yummy, I wish the husband enjoyed Thai food.

1/4/10 My story will continue
Tiffykins replied to audra812s's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Audra, and welcome to VST. I'm glad to hear of your upcoming date, and you'll love the sleeve. Congrats on making the decision to better your life for yourself and family. We're all here for you. Continue to post, and I look forward to getting to know you better. -
Hey Lee, your list sounds really great. I hope you come back tonight with good news. If this surgeon isn't open to doing the sleeve, I hope you are able to find a surgeon who will give you the sleeve that you want. Keep us posted ! ! !

Thank you all so very much ! ! ! Chancie - I honestly can only think of 2 other times in my life when I've been this happy. When my son was born, and the day I married my lovely husband. Newmom - you are too sweet, I hit the scale this morning at 156lbs. I've always been good at hiding my fat, and disguising my flaws. Everyone thinks I'm super skinny, but it's the clothes. Your reply definitely made me smile.

Our trip to WV for Thanksgiving was okay overall. There were ups and downs, and of course, family drama ensued. I expected it, but I'm tired of it. Anyways, yesterday, I went to our last bowling game of this season, and then we all went out to lunch to the Olive Garden. I had soup and salad YUMMY! ! ! I crossed my legs under the table, and felt a huge pain in my right calf. I went to the restroom, and noticed a huge knot on my upper calf. The bruising was insane. So, I had one of the other ladies look at it, and she said it looked like a blood clot. I panicked, and called John. We headed to the ER. They did an ultrasound, but said it wasn't a clot. I went down to see my surgeon because I went on base to the ER. Anyways, I knew the ER there has shady reviews from other military spouses, but I thought it would be better to go there since they have all of my records. My surgeon's assistant said that is definitely a clot, and that I need to do hot compresses, and stay mobile. He thinks it's from the extensive driving we did to and from WV last week. We spent about 36 hours in the car. Least to say, I have learned my lesson about taking breaks while driving. I have a follow-up with my PCM today at 1pm, and we'll see what he says. They gave me 2 aspirins, and a Percocet in the ER. My leg feels better today, but the bruising looks worse. Everything will be fine. I'm not too upset about it anymore. Just the thought of being in the hospital again totally freaked me out. I'm so glad this week is almost over ! ! !

DeeDee, remember this is just a speed bump, do NOT allow it to turn into a complete detouring road block. You have identified the issue, now just bite the bullet, and do it. You are beyond capable to achieve all your goals. I'm struggling as well emotionally, and my eating habits have gone down the toilet these last few days. Mine is all stress related, and I just haven't had the "right' mindset. But, I know great things are around the corner for both of us, and you know I'm just a call or text away ! ! !

Norma, I'll be keeping you in my thoughts through this procedure. I know you'll be up and at work way sooner than you're supposed to be ! ! !

I hate to walk, and jogging is pure torture for me. I would ask your surgeon for his specific recommendation on the running/jogging.

He's a winner! warning: Shameless bragging!
Tiffykins replied to Tracy46545's topic in The Gals' Room
YAY for Archie ! ! ! How about some pics of your furbabies? ? ? -
Congrats on your success, and I'm glad to hear that you found some protein that you can tolerate. How precious for your baby's first steps, that's so exciting ! ! !

Ivy, I hate to hear that you are struggling. The snacking is probably causing some of this, in addition to lack of Water. Everyone is different so don't compare yourself with everyone else's loss results. How are you doing with exercising? If you are not working out, I would recommend this to get your heart rate up, and burn some fat. If you incorporate working out, walking, cardio, you can up your calories, and you'll be able to see some results.

I have absolutely zero regrets about having sleeve surgery. I don't miss food, I haven't developed any further addictions because of the weight loss. And believe me, I have an addictive personality, and struggled with addiction when I was younger. I'm about to turn 33 so I understand your concerns. I did not have the classic co-morbidities even at 5'2" weighing 270 pounds, but I did have joint pain. No high blood pressure, no cholesterol issues, nothing except being fat, and knowing that if I didn't do something, I would for sure die early or live on medications because of my weight issue. I can tell you from my experience as a band to sleeve revision that I am so happy, and live my life to the fullest that I don't have time for any other addictions. I used to be a big drinker, bar hopper (before I was married), and was concerned that I would turn to alcohol to fill the void since I couldn't eat large quantities. But, guess what, I have not had anything to drink since my revision in June. I have zero desire to drink. I always loved to shop so that wasn't an issue either, but I can tell you that shopping is a lot more fun now. If you are concerned about other (called transfer) addictions, ask your surgeon if their program includes a support group. If they do not have support group see if you can find one on meetup.com in your local area. And, you can always turn to us here for help, questions or concerns.

I hate to hear that these things stalled your loss. But, for me, I don't have those side effects from carbs. I don't know why I'm the opposite, and I still eat the "right" way. Protein first, veggies, and if I have any room two bites of potatoes/rice/pasta doesn't seem to have any negative effects on my loss nor do I get hungry faster or more hungry. I'm definitely not saying that it is ideal, and maybe I'm the exception to the rule. I try to not eat them, but I don't like to deprive myself either.

I was in and out of there tonight, but either missed everyone, or came in too late. I'll try to be on sometime tomorrow evening.

Surgery Friday!!...am I forgetting anything?
Tiffykins replied to kelly17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some suggest a heating pad to help with gas discomfort. I took a pillow from home because quite frankly hospital pillows suck the life out of me. Congrats on your upcoming date, and keep us posted.
