Weightloss surgery back in the day
Tiffykins replied to amerigirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The old stomach stapling from my understanding is similar to RNY without the rerouting of the intestines. Essentially, they just made a "pouch" that was still able to stretch unlike the sleeve which removes the stretchy part of the stomach. -

Awesome ! ! ! I definitely like the myfitnesspal.com better so I'll be using that site. Today, I'm 2 grams short on protien and only at 600 calories. -

Fabulous job chickee ! ! ! I am going to check out the site you're using because the one I started to use today is missing some of the weekly favorites I eat. -
Yeppers, and increase water intake definitely helps.

Yes, with the band, I had major head hunger, with the sleeve, I just don't have it. If you can get your protein from food source, kick the protein supplements. I hate breakfast food. So, I don't eat early in the morning. I wait until mid-morning 10-11am, and I eat tuna, I can eat about 5 ounces of tuna with miracle whip. Lunch (around 2-3pm) I'll have meat, leftovers from dinner the night before, or deli meat with cream cheese, maybe some a cheese slice or laughing cow cheese. Dinner - is whatever I make for the family. Last night, I had 3 ounces of barbque venision, 1 tablespoon of scalloped potatoes, and 2 ounces of broccoli/cheese sauce. I also hate 1 bite of a crescent roll with some blackerry jelly. Some days, I know I'm not getting in my protein. I usually make up for it the next day.

Has anyone had a problem with loose skin post-op?
Tiffykins replied to MELLAELLA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have loose skin on my arms, breast, tummy, and inner thighs. My arms, and tummy are still really flabby, and I'm trying to resolve that issue now. You can work out, lift weights and tone as you lose weight to help some. I couldn't work out for 4 months so I was late getting started. Plus, I skipped the entire month of December. I just started back today, and will go to the gym for 3 days of strength training/weight lifting, and 1 day of cardio. On Wednesday, I go bowling so I skip Wednesday. I want to get back into my Hip Hop Abs routine for core/ab workout. Crunches just aren't doing it for me. I also dropped 113-114lbs in 6 months so I lost pretty fast with my revision. My cellulite doesn't look any worse than it did when I was fat. I know that now that I am toning up at the gym that the skin will bounce back to some degree. I'll probably be riddled with stretch marks, but I'll keep them instead of the fat rolls. -
Problem with Protein

You could always order the sample pack then buy the big tub later if you found a flavor you like. -
Problem with Protein
Tiffykins replied to jsaturday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GNC carries the Optimum whey products, but ours only has like 4 of the flavors, and they'll take it back if you don't like it even if it's opened. We only buy it from that website because GNC is a bit pricey. I only buy at GNC when they do the buy one get one 1/2 off sale with my gold card from them. Also, we have a GNC on base, so I don't have to pay tax on the products, but ordering it from bodybuilding.com has just been cheaper for us. I just checked the Vitamin Shoppe's website, it looks like they carry it in store, and it looks a little less expensive there, but I am not familiar with their return policy. -
I was still on full liquids at this time during my recovery, and then to mushies. I don't know how anyone could tolerate soft solids 3 weeks post op. I know it's boring, and mundane, but your stomach is still swollen from surgery. It may need more time to heal. I'm sorry you're having a difficult time, but honestly at 3 weeks I was still on full liquids so I didn't experience this issue. I was 6 weeks out before I started soft solids, and still had to rely on mushies a lot of the time to get in calories because my body just wasn't ready for food.

I eat 3 meals a day. No protein supplements, and occasionally I have a snack mid-afternoon. It's usually crackers with cream cheese, or deli meat with cream cheese. I stay full for a long, long time. Like today, I went and worked out at the gym, came home made some tuna salad with pickles and miracle whip, I ate 3 ounces with 1 saltine cracker, and was stuffed. That was 1.5 hours ago, and I'll eat again at 2:30 when the kiddo gets home from school, and I make him a snack, then I'll have dinner. The only time I get over 800 calories a day is if candy/junk food which I admit to doing a couple of times a week.

YAY I'm excited for you, and the beginning of your new life with the sleeve. Post when you can to let us know how everything goes.

I found this to be especially true. I dropped quick from 18 to 16 in a month, and then slid right into 14s. I somehow skipped 12s, and now I'm in 10s. They are a little snug in the waist, but it varies by brand and style. I have one pair of 14s that fit great for about an hour then they stretch out, and I'm constantly hunkering them up at the waist.

Complications...does it improve or am I alone?
Tiffykins replied to gmac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your stomach isn't even completely healed yet. I had to go back to mushies/purees for awhile because my body just could not handle solid food. Are you sipping to fast, or gulping anything? Remember your stomach is still swollen from the trauma, and it may some more time for you to progress your diet. Have you noticed any difference in cold and warm fluids? Even at 7 months post-op, warm fluids or even room temperature fluids feel better than ice cold drinks. It does get better, but it all takes time. I know I wasn't a very patient person, but I learned real quick that I had to take it slow so my body could adjust. -
I added a small amount of splenda to my greek yogurt. I always bought the vanilla flavor because I didn't really like the fruity flavors.

I can barely close in on 800 calories a day, and I know that I need to get to at least 1000 so I can maintain. During the weight loss stage (the time until you get to goal), I was told to stick with 600-800 calories per day. Now, that I'm supposed to be maintaining, I need to hit 1000 calories.

Best friend is trying to talk me out of surgery
Tiffykins replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mom was absolutely against me revising to the sleeve because she has a band, and she just lives the deplorable life of a bandster, and thought I should just "accept" it. I told my mom, it's my body, my quality of life, and my future. I'm an adult, and I am going to do this for me, and my future health. Tell your friend that "jealousy is like a bad cold, and you hope she gets well soon." Okay, that might not work for everyone, but don't let her negate your want or need for surgery if it's something you've decided for yourself, and your health. -
Really stressing about the hair loss aspect of this...
Tiffykins replied to twobluecats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Biotin will help the hair regrow, but it will do absolutely nothing to prevent the hair loss. I noticed hairloss around 3.5 months post-op, and it has now stopped. I do have some new growth that is between 2-3 inches long (yes, I measured it). I did not and still do not take Biotin on a regular basis. I take it randomly when I remember. I did use Folicure extra care shampoo that I picked up at Sally's beauty supply. I literally lost half of my hair. But, I have no noticeable thinned out spots, or bald spots. I had super thick, coarse hair pre-op, now my hair has thinned out substantially and I just recently switched over to a Paul Mitchell volume inducing shampoo/conditioner so I could make my hair "big" again.
