What about Herbalife shake mixes?
Tiffykins replied to Garyb_58's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I did a quick search on the nutritional facts for these shakes. There are more carbs than Protein. Carbs 13grams Protein 9grams Calories 180 It's a soy protein which is a good quality protein, but that's a lot of carbs/calories for very little protein. When looking for Protein drinks, I was advised to look for a protein count at least 4-5 times the count of the carbs. Meaning if the drink had 4 grams of carbs, it needed to have a minimum of 20 grams of protein. -
What did you ask your doctor...
Tiffykins replied to MINI-Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many sleeves he's performed? How many leaks? What size boughie? How many nights in the hospital? How many leak tests? Post-op diet? Goal weight expectations? Do you oversew or use glue on the staple line? Will you use my old lap scars from my band surgery? (this one won't apply to most) I asked a bunch of questions pertaining to my personal eating habits, my lifestyle, and my previous health issues. -
Yeppers the meniscus is that cartilage between the bones. Mine looked like hamburger meat and they had to clean it up. I only have a portion left in there. My ACL is still torn. They couldn't repair it the 2nd time because my right knee is boogared up as well, and I had not authorized a donor replacement. A Calcium deposit had formed over the tear, and was very deceptive on the MRI. I had the first repair in 1993, and the 2nd attempted repair with a synovectomy in 1999. They warned me if I damaged it any further I would have to have a knee replacement bc I already had arthritis in that knee. The video and pics of my knee were interesting to say the least.

Thanks so awesome ! ! ! Did you know for every pound of weight you lose, that you relieve 4pounds per square inch off of your knees ? ? ? I've had 2 ACL surgeries on my left knee, most of the meniscus is gone, and I no longer have any knee pain. It still creeks a little when it's cold outside, but luckily no more pain. You're doing so great ! ! !

I'll start: I confess that today my heart hurts, and only time is going to heal this wound.

I'll send you my personal contact information. I will be here for you, and please know that you can get back on track. But, it's going to take discipline and a positive attitude.

For people who went from Band to Sleeve... Insights for a friend?
Tiffykins replied to AlaskaChick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like she has major swelling, and her body may very well be rejecting the band. The sleeve would be an option. Before her issues get even worse, I would get her in to a different surgeon for a 2nd and/or 3rd opinion. What you are describing is definitely not normal. -
YAY YAY for the everything. I'm so glad that the wound is healing, and hopefully you'll be 100% in no time. I feel you on the protein. It's all gross. . .

So, most of you that follow, and lurk my blog know that we want to have a baby. I am hellbent on quitting smoking, but have failed with the cold turkey attempts, and the patches/gum make me even more irritable/hateful. I just called and scheduled an appointment with my PCM to look into Zyban. It's essentially Wellbutrin, but the dose can be tailored for smoking cessation. I want to quit, but fear really consumes me. I'm not really afraid of anything except finding myself in the fridge/pantry and then snacking. I haven't battled a lot of head hunger, and honestly think it's because I smoke about 1/2 pack a day. I know I had surgery to improve my healthy/life, and smoking is just counterproductive. I've never taken an anti-depressant. The side-effects scare the heebies out of me, and I don't want to fail. I just want to quit smoking. Our insurance does not cover Chantix, I've called and confirmed with 4 different reps in 4 different departments to ensure that it is NOT covered. I'll find out on Friday morning if I'm a good canidate for Zyban. I'll admit that I am scared. But, if it can be a tool to help me kick this nasty habit, I'm willing to give it a try.

Thank you all for your encouragement and support.

I use Dial soap on my belly button just as a precaution. I haven't had any issues yet, but I do use my blow dryer on low for a couple of minutes just to make sure it's dry. Caysen (the kiddo) had an irritation in his belly button after swimming in the Gulf down here. PCM said to use Gold Bond Medicated powder twice a day.

Need some opinions - New Hairstyle
Tiffykins replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have that $200 Paul Mitchell flat iron with the green plates. It was a present from John a couple of years ago. I have a bunch of product, but I only do my up if going out, or something special. I switched over to a volumizing shampoo and conditioner by Paul Mitchell and have noticed a big difference in my hair's appearance even when I just wash and go. -
It sounds as if you are doing everything right. I would evaluate your carb (no more than 30grams per day), Protein (60+grams), and calories (600-800). It is difficult to not compare yourself with everyone else. I highly agree with taking measurements of your bust, waist, thighs, calves and upper arms. You're burning fat, and building muscle. You'll lose inches, and remember a pound is a pound. I know since I started working out again, I've been able to maintain, but my measurements are shrinking. You'll get there. Don't give up.

You can find plastic ring guards at little jewelry boutique stores in most malls. Claire's has them, and I use them for all of my rings. My bridal set, and other rings are all a size 8.5. Now, my ring size is 7. I'm not having my bridal set resized because John is having my engagement ring diamond put into a new setting as an anniversary present and we'll have it resized then. My "right-hand" rings have all been moved over to my middle finger for now.

Recommendations for last day of gluttony
Tiffykins replied to Bambi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chinese, hands down. I'll admit that is the one thing I do miss in large quantities. It's just too greasy for me to tolerate. Most of the stuff I loved pre-op is all the fried stuff. Now, greasy stuff is just icky now. I do eat the Mongolian grill noodles, but I still miss my peanut chicken, and enormous chicken egg rolls doused in dumpling sauce. -
Mine took 2 hours. I had to take a really ridiculous psych test on a computer. It was multiple choice. It asked questions like " I would like to be a ___________" A) Florist :smile1: Writer for Vogue C) Interior Designer D) Architect Other questions were like " I feel anxious when" with multiple answers. " I really do not like social experiences/outings" True or False. They are looking for anxiety, depression, addictive personality traits to see if you will have any extenuating issues post-op. That is at least what was explained to me. After the testing, I had to meet with the psych and discuss all the changes that might occur, my concerns, and any questions. That was all for my band surgery. For my revision, I just had to meet with a different psych to ensure that I could handle doing a revision while my husband was deployed, and that I was not going to break down since he was gone.

can you loose TOO Much weight?
Tiffykins replied to Rgodinez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure that a patient could lose too much weight with any of the WLS procedures without the proper diet, and support from their surgeon/nutritionist. But, from what I've discussed with my nutritionist, and my surgeon, and my own research, maintaining is easy with the sleeve. Once a patient meets goal, we up our calorie intake, and incorporate more complex carbs than what you had during the losing stage. Planning is essential, and I'm still learning to maintain. I have been able to get my weight loss to stop by adding in more carbs, good fats and veggies. The thing with the sleeve unlike the DS or RNY there is no malabsorption. I really haven't ever read anyone ever losing too much weight with the band. But, I've read plenty of patients losing too much with DS and RNY. -
The hair loss has begun!
Tiffykins replied to LAN2k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not ever blow dry my hair during the losing stage. Unfortunately, nothing is going to stop the hair loss. You can take Biotin, or use Folicure or Rogaine shampoo to help with regrowth. I also have not colored my hair since it started falling out. Luckily, it's a temporary side effect, and the hair will grow back. Stressing about it will only make it worse. Take a deep breath, and know that your hair will grow back. I already have new growth that is 2-3 inches long all over my head especially around my forehead hairline. -
Yay I have DATE and, DRAMA = [.
Tiffykins replied to TiffanyIsMajor's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm glad you got your date, and I would be pissed as all get out. My mom told my evil step-sisters bc she had to make a trip to Florida due to my complications. She told them my entire history yet she hasn't revealed to them that she had a band placed 26 months ago, and that's how she's dropped 75lbs. I was livid. My step-sisters are seriously evil, and this was just ammo for them. I know how you feel. I felt some deceived and cheated. Now, I'm the talk at family functions even though we live 750 miles and aren't able to see everyone. -
My surgeon wasn't concerned with Protein intake until I got to mushies. His biggest concern was staying hydrated. I hope someone else chimes in here to lend more advice.

Need some opinions - New Hairstyle
Tiffykins replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you all so much. John really likes C, but he's pretty wonderful and said "it's your hair". I'm hoping to get it done sometime this week. I may even go all blonde with dark underneath to give the appearance of "depth/fullness". -
Sleeve so tight..... Stress?
Tiffykins replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, definitely. I usually don't disclose a lot of personal stuff on the open forum. But, Christmas time did a doozy on me emotionally. John and I were bickering quite a bit. My best friend of 5 years and I took a break from talking (we're still not speaking), and I had major cabin fever. My stress level was at an unusual high. I was having a difficult time eating dense food. I still ate, but I did have a few more mushies than dense Protein. I felt stuffed all of the time. Of course, once I became "okay" with everything going on, my stomach returned to normal.
