When to move from Mushies to Soft Foods
Tiffykins replied to barbannn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to mushies off and on during my recovery because some foods just didn't settle well with me. I still can't tolerate scrambled eggs. I make them for my husband once a week, and I always try to take a nibble with no such luck. -
I had one, and did attempt to do some of the ab exercises, but found myself on the floor more often than actually being able to do the exercises properly. I use one now at the gym for wall squats.

I hated every single GNC brand of Protein. I had 1 sample of the unflavored that I tried to mix in the orange flavored crystal light, and I couldn't tolerate it. I also tried mixing it in greek yogurt, couldn't eat it. I'm super picky though, and can't tolerate the way most Proteins smell. I'm not saying it won't work for you. I know some people that love that stuff.

It's wasted/empty calories. I can drink a soda occasionally without issue. My surgeon does not believe it will stretch out the stomach. Essentially, you drink, you burp, the carbonation has dissipated. It's not like the carbonation sits in there for hours. It hits your stomach, burp, and it's emptied out of the stomach just like Water is emptied out. Grant it, I'm 7 months out, and didn't have soda for several months so my experience is that I can have a few ounces once a week without issues.

I confess that I just 20-30 minutes reading random threads about pregnancy after WLS on OH, and I have got to stay out of there. My baby bug is high gear, and with John on stand-by, I do NOT need to be reading that stuff.

Both of the GNC's here offer a couple of different options of unflavored Protein. I got a couple of samples from the one GNC on base. I agree with Tracy about the "unflavored". They didn't have any flavor, but there is definitely an undescribable taste in them. Good thing about GNC is that they will take back products even partially used/opened containers.

Thank you so very much. The sleeve is awesome ! ! ! You'll do amazing as well.

I had gas trapped under my collarbone. It was super painful. I had to walk, walk, and stretch my arm over my head, and bend a little weird to get it to move. It could be gas from the CO2 that's been trapped. I hardly ever get gas now, and it's not been a problem for me.

I promise once you're off the post-op diet, you'll be able to have a variety of food at one meal. I don't know why family members think they get a free-pass on snide comments. I get them from my family, and it hurts so deeply. You know my love for fajitas, and I eat them a couple times a month with major enjoyment. chips and salsa too. Hang in there, it gets better, I promise.

Sleeve scheduled for 1/27...
Tiffykins replied to success_n_2010's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Laura, and welcome to VST. Congrats on getting your date scheduled. Keep us posted on your progress and journey. We'll all be cheering you on from this side ! ! ! -
I just wanted you to know you are not alone in this feeling. I had a bit of "buyer's remorse" on Thanksgiving. You know it's one of those days throughout the year when we aren't judged for eating platefuls of yummy food. Well, this year, I just couldn't do it. I was pretty angry to be honest because I just couldn't eat a lot of food. I actually got up from the table and went outside to "walk it off". John came out to find out what was wrong. He found me, walking outside, kicking rocks, and talking to myself. He of course, said "babe, you can have some more later." That wasn't the point, I wanted it right then, and I wanted more than my miserable 5 ounces of food. I had to stay outside until most everyone was finished eating. Sorry for the ramble, I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in this feeling.

It makes perfect sense Ash. I'm weird shaped. Smaller up top, still a little round in my tummy area, my butt and thighs are small, so naked, I look mis-shapen. With clothes, it's not as noticeable. What I've started doing to help shrink my lower tummy is back to doing ab/core workouts with Hip Hop Abs, and I've noticed a huge difference just in 2 weeks. I also do this weird, stand up crunch thing, and it really works. I squat with my back flat against the wall, then I put my arms at a 90 degree angle, and do a crunch while standing up, and I tilt my pelvis up to isolate those lower ab muscles. It's pulling my tummy up and in. For my inner thighs (which are plenty flabby), I'm doing leg lifts (standing and laying on the floor), and laying on my back with my legs in the air simulating riding a bike with ankle weights. I use a chair for balance for squats. For my calves, and hamstrings, I've got this little piece of wood (2x4) that I put the ball of my foot on board, and let my heel hang off the end. Then, I kind of stand-up tippy toe up and down, holding and flexing my butt, calves, and thigh muscles for 5-8 seconds when I'm perched on my toes/ball of my foot. It burns like crazy, but I'm getting definition in my legs, and my butt, finally. You can use stairs, or steps to do this as well. I never let my heel hit the floor. Sorry for the ramble.

I struggle with the same issue. I am good for a week or two about hitting the gym, and then it's a total crapshoot. Sometimes I look at my pre-op pics for some motivation. That really gets my hiney out of the recliner.

Sleeve Date Feb 15th
Tiffykins replied to wendyonamission's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and congrats on getting your date ! ! ! I'm not familiar with your location, but I found a couple of support groups for bariatric patients at the local hospitals that perform bariatric surgery. The meetings were open to any and all patients regardless of where their surgery was performed. Best wishes, and keep us updated on your progress. -
OK - That's IT! I am STILL not losing!
Tiffykins replied to rcarter76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woohooo I am so glad the scale is moving for you ! ! ! -
I promise I don't consider you one of the creepy lurkers. . .
-
Yeah, the last part is more my concern. I really don't mind people reading my experiences, it's just kind of creepy with the anonimity of the internet. Part of me thinks I'm just being a bit paranoid, then other part of me wishes people would just take the time to chime in especially if they are struggling, or maybe experiencing the same thing, and we could all learn and support one another.

Tae Bo with Billy Blanks will kick your hiney. I've done, and have the DVD, it's intense (somewhere around this house). It's serious stuff. I like Hip Hop Abs more just because it doesn't feel like working out, but you definitely get a work out, and you will see results in your waistline, thighs and stomach area. With Tae Bo, it's not as isolated to your core. It's a good work out, but I saw better results with Hip Hop Abs.

My Post-Op Diet Log (START: Mushies Stage)
Tiffykins replied to Wisconsin_Gal's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I did all carbs, and did not count net carbs. I can't believe you can eat pizza this early out. It's crazy how different we all really are with our new tummies. I would caution going back to liquids as it could cause a stall because your body could go back into starvation mode. . . Are you getting in the minimum of 64oz of Water? Are you feeling hungry? I know every program is different, but I was told 4 meals a day. No snacking. I rarely got in 4 meals, but I stuck to the no snacking rule for a long time post-op. -
For people who went from Band to Sleeve... Insights for a friend?
Tiffykins replied to AlaskaChick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everything I underlined, especially the "finally" comment is cause for concern. Plus, if she was still having issues, and discharged without further diagnostics, I'd be looking for a different surgeon. She's almost 6 weeks post-op, and still having difficulties without any resolution. Chronic pain 6 weeks out is NOT normal, and should be considered a cause for alarm. I dealt with a surgeon disregarding my concerns with my band for about 3-4 months, and it ended up causing me issues with my revision. I left his practice because as a patient I learned you have to be your own advocate and do what is best for your health, and quality of life. -
Have you talked to a nutritionist about your diet? Do you track your calories, Protein, and carb intake? You may need to shake things up by either upping your calories, or changing your menu. Sometimes that's all it takes to get the scale moving again. Have you taken measurements? Are your clothes fitting differently?

I know we already talked about this, but everyone has a bad day here and there. Stay strong, and take care of yourself. Good job on getting in your class this evening. ! ! !
