Doing pretty good today. I ate some crackers, about 4oz of a baked potato with cheese and ranch dressing, and just had 1/4 of an apple. Thankfully, the pain while eating and drinking is completely resolved. I just have some residual pain under my right rib. Dr. R said he had to take down some scar tissue around my liver just to get to my gallbladder so I expect to be sore for a few more days. He also did some exploring around in my abdominal cavity to ensure everything looked good. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good. I think I'll be able to sleep in bed tonight instead of the recliner.

That's how it felt for me with my gallbladder issues. Definitely get checked out by your PCM or contact your surgeon.

Excellent news ! ! !

It's more common in RNY patients because the body/intestines adjust to the malabsorption, and grow more villi that allows for more calories to be absorbed. Plus, the pouch of RNY stretches and so can stomas which leads to bigger portions. With the sleeve, there is minimal stretching if your surgeon is well-skilled, and uses a small boughie to make a tight tummy. Of course, you can eat ice cream, drink milkshakes, and not lose or gain weight, but the surgery is just a tool, you have to do the mental side of it. They operate on our tummies, not our brains. The good thing about the sleeve is that you'll have restriction. The rest of the work has to be done by us. We still have to make good choices.

Today is my my day!
Tiffykins replied to Grateful Heart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woohoo best wishes for you today. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers today for an uneventful surgery, and speedy recovery. Let us know when you are up and about ! ! ! -
YAY YAY YAY I just knew it was something to do with your ears. Funny thing is my step-dad was having the same issues, he went through a MRI, head CT, all these diagnostics, and anti-nausea meds and I told my mom to take him to an ENT specialist, and low and behold he had an enormous inner ear infection. I just know your going to feel so much better once all this passes ! ! !

My husband always dated "thick" girls before me, and he met and married at me at my heaviest around 270 pounds. He was deployed when I dropped the most weight, and was pleasantly surprised when he returned home to a wife that was 75lbs smaller. He was a bit more possessive, and jealous when we were out, but it soon passed. John has always loved me regardless of my looks or pant size. My weight loss has had nothing positive effects on our marriage. Our sex life is even better than it was before, our general relationship is more fun and spontaneous. John admitted he was worried at first that I'd leave him for some other guy. In my opinion, it sounds like your boyfriend may be feeling threatened by your weight loss. He's probably feeling insecure and doesn't know how to handle it. Ya know when we're fat, we tolerate a lot more crap (at least some overweight people). I have never been one to tolerate bad behavior, and I've become more vocal about it. You deserve the very best out of life regardless of your weight. If he can't be supportive, then you don't need him in your life. Don't ever settle for less than everything you want and need. I had to have what I call a "come to Jesus" talk with John. I just laid it all out on the table, and told him " I did this for me, I did this so I could live longer, I did this because of all the obesity related health issues that run on both sides of my family, I did this so we can conceive a baby and I can have a healthy pregnancy and delivery, I didn't do this just to be skinny, I did this so we could live a long, happy, and healthy life together for many years to come." John had it stuck in his head that I just wanted to be skinny. If he truly loves you, he'll support you. Maybe you could ask him why the sudden change in his behavior? And, do not let him tell you "well you've changed". I've heard that all too often from wls patients that have spouses/significant others that are so insecure in the relationship and so insecure with themselves. You can reassure him that you are the same woman, that you still love him, but if he isn't willing to accept your transformation, then get out now before he sabotages your efforts.

Surgery went really great. It only took an hour. Recovery went really smoothly as well. I was up and awake in about 90 minutes. They let me come home yesterday around 11:30, I got home about noon. The discomfort, and pain has kicked in today. I think I probably overdid a little bit yesterday when I came home, but I'm resting comfortably with the help of lortab elixir LOL. Thanks for checking on me.

Sleevers, need advice please-long term travel
Tiffykins replied to Plumbum's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohhhhhhhh that is so exciting ! ! ! You'll be far enough out that you'll have eating down pat, and on solid food. It's funny because mexican food is the one food type that settles best with my sleeve. I was eating spicy mexican food around 3 months with zero issue. I would make sure to take your PPI. I haven't dealt with food poisoning since being sleeved so I'm not sure how to handle it. I'm super jealous, so take a bunch of pictures and share your experience when you return ! ! ! -
You betcha ! ! ! It's a total mindtwist in my opinion. For so many years, we can't wait to eat the next meal. Now, it's like "oh crap, I gotta eat something." I'm always here if you need to vent, chat, cry, or just talk. ALWAYS. You've always been one of my biggest cheerleaders, and I don't know what I would do without you.

It's been a few weeks, and it's a done deal!
Tiffykins commented on Barbara278's blog entry in Blog 1110
Barbara, I'm so happy to hear you are doing well. Mushies will be a nice change for you, and you'll really feel some restriction once you get something with a true consistency in your tummy. Keep taking care of yourself, and know that each and every day gets better ! ! ! Cheers to many more healthy, and happy years. -
Pancreas enzymes were normal, amylase and lipase. . . All is well, I'm home and lounging in the recliner.

Ohhhhhhh Thin, I know how you feel. That's why I honestly think I was such a quick loser with zero stalls. I was super strict, I watched every carb, calorie, and read every label. When I advanced to solids, I hated them. I didn't hate the food, I hated the "change". I was feeling so "good", I was scared to feel bad. But, I had to do it. I just took it super slow. I only tried one new food and then I stuck with it when it worked for me. I had the same "don't try to fix it" mentality. I was losing, I was feeling goood, and I didn't want to get sick again. I really didn't see the difference in myself for a long time. It was weird, and mentally draining. I don't have any wonderful advice, but know you aren't alone in your feelings/thoughts. I just had to force myself to try new stuff, and when something didn't work for me, I went back to my tried and true favorites.

Interesting situation last night
Tiffykins replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you were able to talk to your surgeon. I was allowed to have pills immediately post-op as well. I take my Prilosec in the morning, and then I wait 1 entire hour before taking anything else (food or pill). I hope your throat feels better soon. -
YAY YAY Sarah, I'm so ecstatic for you. I would forward the vitamin/mineral questions to your coordinator just to be on the safe side. I was already on my Vitamins pre-op, but had to stop taking them 5 days pre-op per my surgeon's instructions. I know some people get ready-to-drink Protein drinks (muscle milk light, atkins shakes) to help with energy. Just make sure they're listed on the post-op clear and full liquid diet per your surgeon. I know some patients start taking Biotin pre-op to get ahead of the curve on hair regrowth.

Gallbladder issues and surgery
Tiffykins replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks Randi for updating everyone. Surgery was smooth sailing. The endoscopy revealed a nice, tight little tummy with zero abnormalities. I have pictures, but only have one picture of the staple line that leaked. It's just a bunch of scar tissue nothing exciting to see. He also took pictures of my small/large intestines, gallbladder, and some scar tissue that was hanging around in my abdomen. Surgery took 1 hour, and my recovery was completely uneventful. I was up and walking in about 1.5 hour, and sipping grape juice, chewing on some Teddy Grahams. I felt like a 6 yr old kiddo. The most awesome thing happened. The OR nurse that was in on my revision and my leak repair was somehow assigned to me today. She had the sleeve a couple of weeks after I did. She was going to get the band until she saw what it had done to my stomach. She's dropped 80lbs. They took such amazing care of me, and I only cried a little bit when kissing John as they wheeled me back. I honestly can not thank you all enough for all your prayers, good thoughts, and support through all of this. I have been home since around noon. Sipping Water, and hanging out in the recliner. I've got good drugs, and feel pretty good. A little tender under my rib, but other than that, I'm doing great. I can't drive for 7 days, and am on a lifting restriction for 4 weeks because he took down some more of the large amounts of scar tissue. Many thanks again ! ! ! -
Diabetes and The Sleeve
Tiffykins replied to PhatmanWalkin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read several successful stories on obesityhelp stating that once patients dropped 50-75lbs their diabetes was completely resolved, and they were living med free with normal bs levels. Within this presentation (Slide 18) it states 83% out of 1,000 patients over a 5 year time frame had resolution of their diabetes. http://www.ssat.com/video/2008/SSAT%2049th%20Annual%20Meeting(3)-Cirangle.htm -
Congrats on losing those 10 pounds, and for getting your date set. You'll do great between now and surgery time ! ! ! Your determination will serve you well, and you'll have to keep us updated on your progress.
