  1. Where is that smile? ? ? You have that "I'm such a badass" look which you totally ROCK ! ! ! Many congrats ! ! !
  2. You are not doing anything wrong. It's a new plug-in to increase advertisement dollars to "pay for the site". It happens every few months. Since I've been here since VST's birth, I've seen it happen more times than I care to count. I've been hanging out on the Facebook VSG group that is a closed group, and while it's not VST, at least it's not full of ads.

TECHNICAL GROUP HELP STOP THE ADS

The site owner is here to make money. It's not going to stop regardless of how many complaints are made or how many people leave the site. Each click earns them some change, so it's not going to stop or change. They do some change to increase ads every few months. I know it sucks, but I've been since the beginning of VST and every few months they add or change something to increase advertisement dollars.
  4. LOVE IT ! ! ! When I was getting ready to fire my band surgeon, his wife/office manager/insurance coordinator, was such a b*tch when I wanted my complete medical records, I mean royal b(tch. I looked at her and told her "just because I allowed your husband to cut on me, you still have to go home with him and _ _ _ _ his _ _ _ _, I'm sorry you're so bitter over it, but y'all made 45k off my insurance in 3.5 months and I'm fairly sure that's nearly the annual salary for 1.5 of your office staff, be grateful all I'm wanting is my medical records."

    Protein 4 months out

I never used shakes to supplement anything. The way I was able to hit 60grams of Protein was 4 meals per day, each meal consisted of 15 grams of protein per meal. That made it easy to hit those numbers and keep carbs low. At 4 months out, I was still tracking protein, and did all the way through maintenance. Protein foods just made me feel better. In pregnancy, I am supposed to eat 100gr of protein per day, and most day I hit that goal. Some days I fall short, but it's not from lack of trying. The recommended daily grams of protein for average women is 40-45gr per day, but higher protein keeps us from eating empty calories or carby foods so that's why the higher numbers are recommended especially during the losing stage. It also helps prevent muscle wasting during the rapid weight loss phase. My surgeon wants people to ditch the shakes as soon as they can get soft solids/meats in for their protein.
  6. I would want to know why he'd jump to bypass rather than diagnosing what is going on with your sleeve. Are you on an acid reducer?? And, I can tell you I was on mushy, super mushy, super soft foods for about 3 months because solids just would NOT work for my body. Have they given you a reason why you're vomiting??? There are other solutions, do not let them do a bypass on you without finding out the cause of the nausea. So many people struggle with food especially the first 3-8 weeks. Get a second opinion? Get a contrast study or an endoscopy done on your sleeve?

    Self-Inflicted Liquid Diet

Low carb, less than 30-40gr per day will not only get your body in fat burning mode, it'll shrink the slimy/slippery fat deposits on your liver. I had a 49BMI right before my revision, and I didn't have a liquid pre-op diet, and the night before surgery I could have whatever I wanted. Just clear fluids after dinner then nothing by mouth after midnight. I personally wouldn't torture yourself with liquids only. Eat lean, high Protein foods, low carbs, nothing white, cut sugar, cut flour, and you'll see results.

Is this a good food choice?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I didn't know what they flavored/seasoned it with, and I got mine spicy so that's probably why I didn't taste the sugary part of it LOL LOL.
  9. Tiffykins

    Why?

It must be some new plug-in that is supposed to amp up advertising dollars, and I doubt there is anything you can do to prevent it. From what I can tell, the "Fast Reply" option has been disabled, and the new ad is coming up in every single, new post on the forum. Shameless advertising has always been this and lapbandtalk's main drawback, and a lot of people leave because of the constant changing advertising schemes. The owner of the forum gets paid for "every click" that occurs on any of the plug ins so I made it a point to NEVER click on any link or plug in here. That's why they sneak them into posts, have the sensitive little tab at the top of the page.

Is this a good food choice?

I ate a lot of things that were similar to that combo.I just recently tried Korean food for the first, and had the bulgogi which I found to be super tender, and it worked really well. It maybe a little early for beef, but for future use, I highly recommend it
  11. A lot of this is because of the stigma of weight loss surgery patients taking the easy way out, or not being "strong" enough to put the fork down. In my opinion, the stigma of WLS is constantly growing because people are ashamed to admit they chose it for best results. They are so afraid of judgment because of their choice, but then they turn around and gripe that they are judged for being obese. No one is going to get it until we educate them. Have I caught flack for having surgery? Yep, sure have, and I also take it as an opportunity to educate someone that is obviously ignorant to the facts of being obese, having food issues/struggles. I don't get defensive, I don't mad, I simply state the facts, and tell those people that I might not have done it the traditional way, but with a 95% failure rate with diet and exercise, I wanted to be a better statistic. Even my husband is against bariatric surgery, he thought I could do it on my own. Although he was extremely supportive of my choice. He let me know that he didn't understand it. Through the almost 3 years since I started my WLS journey, he's finally understanding it. He recognizes that I still struggle with food. He's even said "you're still a fat girl, trapped in a skinny girl's body." And, he's 100% correct. I should add that he has never had a weight problem, he's athletic and works out 3-4 times weekly. Even though he didn't completely understand it, he supported me. On the flip side, he's tried to sabotage my efforts because he was scared that I would change, or leave him when I got skinny. Just to flip the coin, do you remember hearing your skinny b*tch girlfriends saying "Gawd, I'm so fat!"" or "I feel so fat today!" and you sit there thinking "where do you feel fat, in your big fricken toe, you skinny, size 2 wearing hooch!!!" ?? That was me 2 years ago, I didn't understand their feelings, I didn't understand what feeling fat meant because I was always fat, and I had always been the fat one in the group of friends. So, because they've never been there, they are not going to understand, just like we don't understand how in the hell they feel fat with their less than 30% body percentages and 21 BMI. Now, that I have been a size 2, I can tell you that I completely understand how they feel. I've gained weight in the pregnancy, my body has changed dramatically, and I feel fat all the time again after finally feeling "normal and skinny" for over a year.
  12. Nothing will stop it. I didn't have it with my band either. I lost half of my hair by volume between 3.5-6.5 months post-VSG. It's all grown back in. And, even studies on Biotin have shown that it doesn't contribute to regrowth in any major degree. Here's some articles that discuss what is going on. http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/telogen_effluvium.html http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/4347455/Hair-Loss-in-Weight-Loss-Surgery-Patients/
  13. Copy that link into your browser. It's a study for VSG and RNY resolution of diabetes. Also, on the left hand side of the page, there are other studies for your review. Make sure you look up Reactive Hypoglycemia with RNY which is extremely common with RNY patients with diabetes.

    Last Meal Syndrome

food funerals are pretty common. But, eating excessively before surgery can 1) make your liver even more slimy, slippery, and bigger making surgery more difficult 2) You're just feeding the bad behaviors instead of working to resolve them A liquid diet will help with the shrinking liver fatty deposits, but it's not going to do anything for the mental stuff we deal with pre-op. I know that no one telling you that you'll be able to eat all your favorites again is enough to make you believe it, but I eat everything you have listed up there. It sounds like your husband is enabling the behaviors. Ask him to help hold you accountable when you ask for these late night junk runs, tell him to tell you NO. Are you gonna be pissed off at him? Probably, but really we should be pissed at ourselves. Stop the madness NOW before you get to the liquid diet, start exercising some of the behavioral changes now so they aren't so difficult to manage post-op.
  17. They pumped your body full of fluids for the surgery and during recovery. I gained 30lbs of fluids during my hospitalization. Don't panic, it's normal. Just keep on track with your Fluid intake!

    VSG vs. other optional surgeries

Pregnancy with the sleeve is awesome. I have no food issues, and the baby is thriving. I struggle with weight regain, and other body changes since being skinny in pregnancy. BUT, medically, VSG has NOT complicated my pregnancy at all. I am high risk because of my age (34), my genetic clotting disorder, and my previous c-section. I have no issues with Vitamin levels and have labs pulled every 4-6 weeks to monitor my intake and make sure everything is still on target.
  19. If you have a follow up soon, ask him why. It's pretty uncommon for that long of a period of time to have to wait for pills. Most release patients to swallow pills pretty quick since digestion of pills doesn't really occur in the stomach. It happens in the intestines and considering you didn't have your intestines messed with, he might change his protocol. If the chewables/powders/liquids are making you sick, you might want to let him know what's going on. I'm still on chewables at 2 years out only because I'm a big kid and like my Celebrate chewables ha ha ha. But, everything is pill/capsule/caplet form.

    Wedding soon

This is just my recommendation; when I very first had a sugary treat, I felt horrific. Not true dumping syndrome, but I did get the clammy, flushed feeling. Reactive hypoglycemia is common for some patients especially if you are low carbing, sugar free eating and then all of a sudden you throw some (all be it a small bite) of yummy buttercream frosting/cake into your system. I would suggest you having a couple of bites of sugary something the week before your wedding to make sure your body doesn't completely freak out. At 2 years out, even though I don't restrict any foods, and do not restrict carbs or sugar, I do not eat these things on a regular basis, and if I decide to indulge in cake, I feel pretty crappy. Cheesecake, candybars, Starbursts candies, pie, donuts do NOT have this effect on me, but buttercream or cream cheese frosting both make me feel weird. I'm assuming it's the fat content that does me in on the frosting. Many congrats on your upcoming nuptials and getting your sleeve date! ! !
  21. 2 weeks is the normal wait time for pills with our program with the exception of extended release meds which are restricted for the first 6 weeks.

    VSG vs. other optional surgeries

I've had both. VSG was not available when I had my band so in my mind, the band was the lesser of 2 evils between RNY and the band. My story is horrific, and it was only in my body for 8 months before I HAD to revise. Keeping it in my body was not an option. Of course, I was drawn to it for the same reasons as many because it's marketed to be safe. I knew the complications, but I also thought I could beat the risks like a few other band patients did. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When I had to revise, I could have easily had RNY, but I fought for the sleeve. It might be permanent, but it's also the least complicated. It's a straight forward surgery. The recovery is often bumpy with getting liquids in, but it would be temporary. I'm over 2 years out with VSG, and love life. It's the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. I always tell people to think twice, cut once. The stats on the band are getting worse. There have been recalls, speculation on class action lawsuits are stirring in the lapband community, and the number of complications are on the rise. Best wishes in your research ! ! !

    IVF

I pull deedee's profile from the member listing and search her topics. She shared her struggle with TTC and her entire journey. I didn't have to go with IVF so I can not comment on that aspect of TTC. I'll keep you in my thoughts and best wishes ! ! !

    Lifting & Nexxium

WalMart and Target has this one for super cheap, and you could carry it with you, toss it in your floorboard. She could use it to get into the car, then in the floorboard to crawl into her seat! !! Check the hardware and housewares departments, I can't remember which department I saw it in, but they ones just like this that fold up to super thin and portable.

    Lifting & Nexxium

I had a 6 week lifting restriction for anything over 10lbs. I would recommend getting a little stool that you can have your kiddo step on to help with in and out of the car, also having climb up you and then sliding down might help. Your biggest concern will be incisional hernias which are very unpleasant and painful most require more surgery. Seromas sometimes develop post-op when Fluid pools behind incisions, and can be painful and need to be drained. As for the Nexium, lots of people bring it back with them over the border. . . We won't turn you in for smugglin! ! !
