  1. Hi - I'm Amy and I'm new here. I'm just starting the process towards the lapband surgery road. I haven't even contacted my insurance provider yet - but I found that they do cover it. I'm with Anthem BCBS . Anyone have any advice on what to do next? I've contacted my family MD and he hasn't had anyone go thru this procedure. But, He seems to think that it would be a good thing for me to do. He says that I'm young (35) and that I'm on the road to many health problems. I'm pre-diabetic, I already have high blood pressure, losing weight would be the best thing for me right now. I've tried and tried though. Right now I'm right at the border line as far as my BMI though. Any Advice?

    Not banded quite yet....

Hi - I am Amy. I'm from the Toledo area - so not too far from you, I guess. I haven't done anything - but I'm ready to make an apt with a surgeon. I'm probably like you in that I want to get banded as soon as possible. But - I suppose there is a reason for going thru everything that you do. I, honestly, want to go to a pschychiatrist anyway. If I have emotional eating issues - I want to address them. There wouldn't be a problem with my body if I did follow a diet. That's my problem. I always start one but fail within a week. I know you probably don't want to hear this - as I'm sure I won't either - but we are probably going to have to be patient in this process. The band is a tool and I'm sure that before we do it they are going to want us to understand it and know how to live with it. Good Luck to you!

    I'm worried..

So - after you get the band - are you able to exercise? I guess I can be called a yo-yo dieter - but I think I may eat too much for emotional reasons. I also am really wanting to get into exercise. I am a member of a spin class - but that won't work it I can't get my diet under control. I'm also not as diligent about exercise to lose weight by just doing that.
