You have to be referred by your general practioner then it is a long process of appts and classes. I have been at this process since October of last. I have heard some people glide right through the process and others, me, meet challenges. It will all be worth it in the end. If feels like jumping through hoops but they (Kaiser) really want you to suceed.

Hi Ashley, congrats, hope you are doing well. I started with Kaiser S. San Francisco in Oct of last year. I just had my psych and appt. with the nurse practioner for the surgeon on April 21. I was told then they suggested that I complete a 14 week course on emotional eating. At first I was pretty upset, but you can't do much but go along with the program. I have lost all the weight they suggested but my history really has been emotional eating. Please post often to let me know how you are doing. Can you tell me a little about your experience at surgery time?

Thanks Christine for the info. It was quite helpful. I seem to be going a little slower pace than you. I did orientation in October. It's ok, it has taken me this long to really know that this is the right thing for me to do. Please let me know how your surgery went.

Christine, I see your surgery date is 4/6. Wanted to wish you good luck. I too am going through Kaiser SSFrancisco. I have my surgeon and psychiatry appts on April 21. Hoping for my banding date with the next two months. Can you tell me what to expect re the psych appt and surgeon appt?

Good luck with your surgery on the 12th New Woman. I hav e not received a surgery date but love reading all the info here. Just not eating when you are so mad....wow that is an acomplishment!

I started the process for a lapband through Kaiser, So. SF. Have any of you had your lapband done here or are somewhere in the process? How long did it take? The book says to call for appt for the Lifestyle management classes however I can't seem to get a call back. I have finished orientation, nutri 101 and lifestyle changes. Any info on this would be helpful.

Thank you Vicki for your great reply to my question. I will do exactly what you say and just go along with the program. I don't see this surgery as a quick fix and I think that I most definately will benefit from the time it will take to get the surgery date. I am quite proud of myself for the changes I am making but still struggling with the weight loss. I have stepped up my exercise this past week and although I am not on a really restricted diet now I realize I have to get the last 15 lbs off so I will do what it takes.
