Who knows about your surgery?
Hel replied to Rocky_Mountain_Mama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well said. I told just about everyone too. People at work have been very supportive, and they ask questions so I get to educate them some. A couple ladies are even considering pursuing it now that they know someone that has been there. Overall it's been a positive experience sharing my journey. -
That is the best news! I am so happy for you! You have worked so hard to get to this, now it's just a little longer to go. It'll take a while on that challenge, apparently I have bursitis (odd, never had it BEFORE losing 50lbs, now it shows up). I have a med for it, but have to wait til I see my surgeon (tomorrow) to make sure he says it's ok for me to take. If so, I have to take it for a week, and then I can try the treadmill. I'll get there, but you're a tough act to follow  I really am so glad you got your surgery date, now to count it down. (my husband is coming home on leave that day, so I'm counting down too!) HOORAY!

Hi Jason, I guess I was on vacation since you posted last (I wish!). You sure are doing great! Congratulations on hitting 70, your determination continues to be inspiring to me and many others here. Hope you get good news Wednesday (I'll be looking!) I have a Dr. appt Wednesday (hip pain) and if I can figure that out I'm going to get on the treadmill a friend gave me--and my goal will be to give you a run for your money! :smile2:

How often do you weigh in?
Hel replied to Erin 6-9-2009's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I weigh myself every morning. Just like to keep mindful of where I am, but I don't obsess. -
That is wonderful, congratulations! It's great that it worked out with your teaching as well.
-
sounds like you are moving right along. I hope you get that 8/20 surgery date, you certainly have worked for it. Have a great weekend!

hurts to take a deep breath
Hel replied to katwmn63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I don't want to minimize the possiblity that it could be something serious, I had the same problem the day after surgery, it turned out to be gas pain. It sure did hurt though! It lasted a couple days for me. You might want to call your surgeon's office just to be on the safe side. -
Hi Jason, Sorry you had a rough day, I hope today was better for you. I'm looking forward to hearing about your Dr. visit tomorrow, I hope it is all good news! Please don't keep us waiting too long
-
Just stopping by to say hello ; hope your Dr. gives you a surgery date when you see him on the 15th. More bloodwork? Hope it all goes smoothly!
-
Hi Jason That rocks! Now you can breathe a little, congratulations on getting through all the testing. I'm looking forward to hearing you have a date! side Q, where (if I may ask) was that picture of your family taken? Just curious, cause it looks like a Russian Orthodox icon on the wall. Hope you have a great 4th of July weekend! My husband was home on leave for my surgey, so he can't be here, we're just gonna hang around at home (the evil teenagers and I).

I have 'Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. I am still on liquids so haven't been able to try anything yet, but the recipes look good. It was well-reviewed on Amazon.com, unlike some of the others. The recipes in this book are low fat, high protein, some reviews of other books said they didn't have a lot of high protein recipes. I check back every so often though. I'm hoping some others here have found some more good cookbooks. :tongue2:

I agree also on 'Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band' by Robert W. Sewell being the best book I've read so far. It is very informative, well written and pertinent before and after surgery. I still re-read parts of it here and there, and the patient's stories fit in very well. The Lap Band Companion was also good, as has been mentioned. the Emotional First + Aid Kit was ok, but not great. Exodus from Obesity wasn't that great (imo) either. It was more geared toward bypass (and the author's travels all over the world). I'm always looking for a new one, you never can know enough. I do wish there were more cookbooks though!

Hi Jason, Just checking up on you (in a good way :crying:) and see you have the first part of your psych eval today-- hope all went well (and interested in why it is 2 parts hmmmmm). Look forward to reading from ya! Keep up the great work :rolleyes2: Hel

I hope you are able to find the cause of the dizziness. Your Dr. probably checked this already, but has your blood pressure dropped? Mine dropped fairly quickly between the pre-op diet and surgery, shortly before surgery I started getting dizzy and realized my blood pressure medication was making the bp drop too low. Let us know how it works out for you

Hi Jason, wow you are doing great. I just found your thread for the first time, and you sure are well on your way. Talk about motivated! I'm looking forward to reading more from you (maybe you should start a blog if you haven't already!)
-
I was told nothing over 10lbs until my 2 week post-op appointment (presumably I will get further directions then) but I have read nothing over 10lbs for 10 days, then nothing over 20lbs for the next 20 days, so it's about a month. But I'm sure you will hear varying advice here. Hope it works out well for you!

Yessssssssssss!!! The words I was waiting to hear!!!
Hel replied to PSJ71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! A quick turnaround ROCKS! :blushing: -
My surgeon did not require a pre-op diet, well not until the day before surgery. But I had read so much on here about 'fatty liver', and I did not want that to be an issue for me so I went on a diet on my own. Lost 20lbs pre-op, which was a nice start.

I'm a stomach sleeper too, banded 6/9. It is still too uncomfortable to sleep on my stomach, but as soon as I'm able to I will be.
-
I didn't ask my Dr. directly, but my hospital discharge papers specifically noted that 'sexual activity' is allowed. I'm on day 5 and definitely up to it, my husband is the one saying we should wait until my healing is further along, he's afraid of hurting me.

banded 6/08 & complications (minor) already .... scared
Hel replied to Kristine73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to hear that you had so much trouble. It's good that they were able to figure out the problem quickly though. You must be totally worn out after all that. Take care of you, I know it isn't fun to start over on the liquid diet, but especially after what you have been through I'm sure your Dr. is being extra careful now. Keep us posted on how you are doing. -
Congratulations ladies! I was also banded on the 9th, I was feeling fine after surgery, but the next day I had a lot of abdominal gas pain. That has eased up a bit, thank goodness! Looking forward to sharing our progress

Congratulations!

That's a great idea. I have a big bottle of centrum chewable, but they are awful tasting! I'm gonna try the children's, thanks!

Hi! I got my Tricare approval very quickly, hope you do too. I know how nerve wracking it is. Good luck!
