  1. ME TOO!! Maggi Banded 11/19/09 5 Ft. 2 1/2 in. 255 lbs. pre-op diet Weight at time of sugery-198 lbs. Weight at present-195 lbs.
  2. I was just banded last Thursday, Nov. 19 so I am still new at this. You'll do just fine. Be sure to take your pain meds regularly, especially for the first few days. Spoil yourself with extra rest and sleep but also be sure to get up and walk, walk, walk, about every two hours. This does help with the gas. I am using Gas-X chewable tablets and they do help also. Every day gets easier. The hardest part is getting in the protein shakes required along with other liquids. I'm not crazy about the protein drinks  but will make myself get them in, as I have worked way too hard and too long to get this far. I want to do it right and not have any complications. This band and I are going to have to be good friends for a good long time so I'd better treat it right from the beginning. Also, I think it helps when you are laying down to put a pillow under your knees. That way your stomach doesn't get pulled so hard as it would be when you straighten your legs out without a pillow for some support. Wishing you all the best on your upcoming date!! You'll do great!
  3. Hey, Amartyn1! How are you doing since your banding on Nov. 17th? I know you are only very earily into this but I hope each day is getting easier for you. Congratulations!!! I am leaving for the hospital in about 45 min. to have my Lap Band and I am floating on air. Check in time is 9:15 and surgery is schedule for 11:15. Can't wait! Maggi
  4. I know where you are coming from about the pictures. I had my husband take my picture this morning to remind me of what I have done to myself. It is so discusting to look at my pictures but I want them to remind me of how awful I looked before my surgery. Surgery is tomorrow, Nov. 19. AND I AM SO EXCITED I AM BURSTING AT THE SEAMS!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Congrats! You have to be so excited. My date for banding is on Nov. 19. I was so excited when I learned what my date would be, and I still am. I'm not at all concerned about the surgery. I imagine it will be somewhat like the gall bladder surgery I had only about three and one half weeks ago. The "Battle of the Bulge" has been a long fight for me and I imagine for most, if not everyone who is banded or is on there way to having it done. I am so looking foreward to losing additional weight along with the 63 pounds I have already lost on my 6 mo. doctor supervised diet. Good luck and wishing you great success!! :w00t:
  6. Pre-op Diet Question

I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have been scheduled for LAP-BAND???? surgery on November 19 and I am so excited but just a little nervous. My surgeon usually does the 2 week protein shake pre-op diet with her patients. Since I lost 62 pounds on my 6 month doctor supervised diet, she is not worried much about the size of my liver and instead has put me on a 1,200 calorie diet which will be for 10 days total before I have my surgery. Does anyone think it would be a good idea to take the last three days of my pre-op diet and just drink four to five protein shakes each day instead to maybe help shrink the liver a little more or will it make any difference at all? Any and all answers would be appreciated!

    Finally got my Date

Congratulations!! I found out my sugery date this morning. It is November 19. I have to admit I am a little nervous but mostly excited. When I got home today I was so excited that it's a good thing my family wasn't home because they would think I had lost my mind. I was, and still am on a "high" you might say. :smile2: I'm a little crazy, squeeling, and I would be jumping up and down if it wasn't so hard to get more than a couple of inches of the ground. Anyway, good luck!!!
  8. Thanks exumtam! That sounds very encouraging!! I sure hope you are right. The surgeon told me that UHC usually likes to have some diet history on your files with your PC doctor. I sure hope she is wrong!! I am really happy for you that you are going to be able to take this step and get your banding soon! Good luck and thank you for your reply!!!!Maggi
  9. My first time on this forum and looking forward to reading many of the posts. I do have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have United Health Care and today saw a surgeon that performs lap banding. She said I would be a great candidate for the surgery. The only thing I am concerned about is that even though I have made many attempts over almost the last 30 years to diet and excercise, I have none of that on record with my doctor. All my attempts were done on my own. Every attempt I have made to lose weight has always met with failure. Can anyone tell me if UHC is a tough one to get approval from since I do not have diet history on my medical files other than what I told my doctor about recently? I meet all the criteria, morbid obesity with BMI of 45, high blood pressure, acid reflux, back problems, history of obesity over 5 years. Also there is a lot of family history of heart problems and diabeties 2. I am really nervous :unsure:that I will be denided because I do not have diet and excercise history with my PC doctor. However, I have made an appointment with my PC doctor in about a week to talk to her about having her give me a diet plan to follow and I am signing up for a walking club at my place of employment. I really hope that will help once my doctor sends all my records to UHC. I would greatly appreciate any answers anyone has or experience they have had dealing with UHC. Thanks all!! Maggi
