    Low Profile port?

I was given the low profile port. I had my surgery in April and have had 2 fills. Each of the fills the port was hard even for the Dr to find. I am still glad I have the small port. Dr says in the long run it will be the best, because sometimes people do lose enough that the bigger port sticks out and this way that won't happen.... Good luck on the beginning of your new journey. A sweet one it is.....

    Protein Shake!

We love the unjury at my house. My husband has a shake for Breakfast every morning just because it is so good and gives him extra Protein, I because my band is really tight in the morning. I add a banana and strawberries along with 1 tablespoon of SF vanilla or chocolate pudding and blend it. It has no aftertaste at all. I add the pudding because I am not a skim milk fan and it makes it thicker, almost like ice cream. YUMMMM!!! Oh another thing, I like all flavors except the strawberry sorbet. Nasty to me but husband likes it, so it gets gone.... Suzdavis

    Breaking Plateau

Hey Carbgrl, I had my surgery the same day as you and finally yesterday I broke into the ONE"S. Yesterday and today the scales said 199....Feels so good. I had stayed on the plateau for ever also. Don't know what jump started me but may have been I got a fill last Friday. So glad I am there and know it won't be but a few days you will be there also. 5. When I eat out I have found the easiest way for me is to order Water or other drink in a take-out cup with a lid. I do not put the straw into the cup until I leave. By the time I am in the car it has been the 30 minutes my Dr asks you to wait. I then enjoy the drink on the way home... At home I just don't fix me one at the table.... Did find out mine is more habit than anything else......An easy habit to break..... Suzdavis

    Non Scale Victories!

I just had a NSV this morning. When I first started losing weight I had to go buy a belt to keep my jeans up. Today I went to put it on and had to latch it in the smallest hole. Guess that belt will be on its way out soon. YAH!!!!!!

    Next stop- Onederland!

Yeah Carbgrl I'll be right behind you. My scales vary between 201 and 203 every morning. I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but can't wait to see 199 on the scales. Won't be long now.....

    laughing during a fill

Definately not laughing for me yesterday. The RN gave me my fill yesterday and she couldn't find the port. I took her about 3 sticks before she called a Dr in and he took several sticks until they finally found it. Wasn't funny at all. Seems the Dr did me a favor and put in the low profile port. Said it would be better because it wouldn't be as bothersome to me. Yeah right!! I didn't think it was such a good idea.... But I know those spells of silly laughter are really hard to stop and they appear at the most inappropriate times. Glad you had a good time......
  9. I think this is the reason my Dr took me off Nexium. They said so often acid reflux can be a sign of band problems and he wanted me to inform him immediately if I started to have acid. He didn't want me taking Nexium any longer so if problems arose it wouldn't mask it....

    Hair thinning?

I understand hair loss can be a problem 3-4 months into the band. From what I gather it is from lack of protein. I am 2 months out and I make sure I get at least 50 grams of protein everyday and have had no problems....

    food ideas

My NUT ok'd egg drop soup from our local Chinese place. I bought a quart for like $2 and had several meals. Yummy at this stage....
  12. I had to do a 6 mo pre op diet for my insurance purpose. My PC Dr said I knew what to do to lose weight and gave me a diabetic 1200 cal diet but told me to do whatever diet that worked for me and I could stay on. I have had good results from the Atkins diet. I chose that one and lost 37 lbs in the 6 months. I think it also prepared me for the way you eat with the band. It stresses Protein. I was happy with my results. I think if I were you I'd give myself time to lose the lbs and better prepare yourself. Only a month or two isn't that long in the scheme of things.
  13. At my pre-surgery seminar we went to an educational building for the meeting. It started at 5:30 so most of the building was quiet and abandonded...When we went through the door there was a security guard and he said, "First door to the right." I asked my husband how he knew what we were there for and then realized everyone at the meeting was a person of size. Would have been bad for someone who was going to another meeting to end up at a WLS meeting. Then again may have been an omen....
  14. My Dr's office gave me a temporary card with a number and I logged on to LapBand.com and ordered the card. I think the registration number links you to the information that the Dr registers with LapBand the Company. When I put in the registration number all the info pulled up and I ordered it through the website. You can also fill all that out on a postcard and order it through the mail.....Definately worth it...Also if you carry it it can inform medical personell of the LapBand in case of emergency....

    How did you change?

My Dr says 2-3 meals a day and only eat when hungry. Try and have 1/2 to 1 cup at a meal. Protein first.....
  16. I ordered mine and had a chance to use it the first time at pizza Hut. I don't have a lot of restriction yet so can still eat pizza but knew I wouldn't eat enough to warrant the full buffett. So I asked if they honored it and the waitress took it to her manager and he said I could eat for the price of a child. I didn't ask how much that was but figured about $3.50 as opposed to $7.50 regular adult. When we got ready to pay, mine was free! I questioned them and they said on Tuesday's kid's eat free. I said thanks and offered to pay the childs price anyway and the check-out girl said no it would be free. Yes!! My husband was happy and said he was sending me every Tuesday to Pizza Hut!!! HA!!! Only problem is that since surgery I don't really want pizza and next week I'll have my first fill and probably can't eat it anyway. PS: I only ate 2 small pieces and about 1/4 cup salad. Not much restriction but enough to be able to tell a difference.....

    Banded 5/26th - questions

One thing that helped me through the liquid stage was egg drop soup. I went to our local chinese place and got a quart of soup for like $2 and made several meals. I did check with my NUT and she said to be careful with the egg and make sure it wasn't too chunky and enjoy. Made a big difference in my attitude....:frown:

    Fun Goals...

Yeah!! I'm not the only one my husband would call crazy. I, too would love to go skydiving....I want to go to Vegas and skydive. I have checked on it in the past and was afraid my knees wouldn't support me in a soft landing. My DH thinks I have lost my mind. He has his private pilots liscense and offers to "assist" me in my dream lots of times. But...I told him I'd do it with the pro's.....
  19. Hey Trish, Hope you get some good advice from the LBT. They have always come through for me. Hope you find a common ground for your lunch. Didn't ask you but have you tried chicken salad. Cook the chicken and have FF Mayo and Dill chips in it. It is good and soft chicken..... Good Luck, Suzanne

    I really need help!!!

You should call your Dr. My Dr took me totally off Nexium before surgery. He said some of the symptoms of acid refulx could be something wrong with the band. Taking Nexium would hide them and he would rather know about it so we could fix it. He didn't say what could be wrong but I have had no acid reflux since surgery.
  21. Funny, because I am just the opposite. I had surgery on April 14th. My surgeon puts 4CC's in at surgery. Well 2 days after surgery I wasn't able to drink Water so I had 1 1/2 CC's removed. At 4 weeks I went in for my post -op thinking I would have a fill. The surgeon and NUT didn't recommend I have one because I had lost 6 lbs since surgery was eating the correct amount and wasn't getting hungry or snacking between meals. So I only have 2 1/2 CC's and do feel restriction. They did say when the swelling went down completely I would probably need a fill and if I started getting hungry between meals to call them and they would see me right away to put a fill in. I go back on June 19 if not before. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to lose faster but they convinced me that the band was working just like it is supposed to and to increase my excerise and the weight would come off. Not fast but steady.....
  22. I actually went for my 4 week checkup yesterday. I was expecting a fill because 2 days after surgery I had to have 1 1/2 cc's removed (my Dr puts in 4cc's at surgery). I couldn't keep liquids so to prevent dehydration he removed it. When I went in I met with the NUT and she noted what a normal 2 day diet was for me and said I was eating the correct amount and wanted me to advance to regular food and quit the soft and liquid foods (sliders). Asked if I was hungry and I said not really. Next I met with the PSY and he said I was right on schedule with weight loss. They like anywhere from 4-8 lbs a month. I had lost 6 lbs since surgery. Told me I had done super and also asked if I was hungry. Then the nurse came in and said she didn't think the Dr would give me a fill because I was still a little swollen and the information I had given them indicated the band was working just the way it was supposed to. She said I was to come back in a month and would probably need a fill then or earlier if I became hungry between meals, just call and they would work me in to get a fill. I feel so much better because I was worried about getting a fill when I seem to have some restriction with just this small amount. Guess that is why they make the BIG money. They really know what they are doing......

    First fill zero restriction?

I was just the opposite. I went in yesterday for my post op (surgery on April 14) check-up and fill...Or so I thought. Right after surgery I had so much restriction I had to have 1 1/2 CC's removed because I couldn't swallow Water. That made all the difference in the world. No problems since then. Now I am ready to progress to regular food no more just "soft" foods. The NUT said I was eating the correct amount of food and lost 6 lbs since surgery and wasn't hungry. She said that is the way we want it. Then the Dr said I probably was a little swollen still and would probably need a fill next month. If I needed one sooner to call and they would work me in. Guess I am one of the lucky ones to not be in Band Hell for long...
  24. Call your Dr immediately. I was just like you and waited for 2 days. I couldn't get anything down. Only ice chips. In the hospital I had the Barium Swallow and was OK and I drank apple juice before I left the hospital. But when I got home I could only do ice chips no liquid at all. I went back in, and Dr withdrew 2CC's of saline and i immediately was OK. He said I had swelling after surgery and I was completely closed. You will get dehydrated fast. Better safe than sorry. Call him and he will know what to do.....

    sleeping on stomach

I am 3 weeks post op and am also a stomach sleeper. Took me a while but have found a trick. I have one of those neck travel pillows and I position it just in the right place and sleep like a baby. It works for me....
