    ~Calling all May 26-ers!~

Christy, you remind me of me with the worrying! My surgery was the first one of the morning, I had to get to the hospital at 5:30 and was so very nervous. Had a couple of anxiety issues while sitting there in the pre-op room but my hubby gave in to my desire to gossip to get my mind off of things and lightened up the mood. Thank god for the sedative they gave me (although I didn't get it until they wheeled me into the OR), it conked me out and I only remember less than a minute of nervousness in the OR. The nurses were wonderful, and I woke up with some general discomfort from the pressure only, no incision pain at that point. Got some morphine for the pain which must have been a low dose because didn't do what I remembered morphine doing the only other time I had it! I was so thirsty on my ride home, I should have brought some Water. I've done well with the clear liquids - I had water, juice and broth yesterday with no nausea or anything. I've had gas pressure but gasx has helped, and today I woke up after 5 hours of sleep feeling like I was sore from doing too many sit-ups. What has helped me get through it all - the lidocaine they gave me on my upper hand numbing it so that I didn't even feel the IV (don't know why but that made me feel less anxious not to feel it), gas-x, walking to release the gas, a heating pad on my belly to ease the sore muscle feeling, my pain meds which take the edge off, and being able to handle fluids well.
  2. Hi, I had my lap band placed just this morning, and I know exactly the type of thoughts you are having because I've had them too. I additionally suffer from anxiety problems, and dealt with that this morning. The whole process went by quickly, though, and honestly, the worst part for me was the waiting this morning for my surgery, and even that wasn't too bad. I had my husband there in the pre-surgery area and found that him continually talking and joking with me distracted me enough so that I wasn't as anxious as I thought. The nurses were great and continually checked on me, making me feel better. I got lidocaine to numb the top of my hand before they put in the IV, and for some reason not feeling the IV there made me feel better. Then as soon as they wheeled me in to the OR, they gave me a sedative which completely knocked me out, so I didn't even have to stay awake in the OR for more than a minute. The next thing I knew I woke up with a little discomfort, but it wasn't by any means unbearable. Since I got home, I've been able to drink Water, juice and broth, get up and walk around, and play around on my computer. My discomfort has changed from gas to a little muscle pain, but the pain medication makes me feel better. I haven't been hungry yet, although I expect to be! I know my experience is not a long term one, but if I knew before hand what I know now, I wouldn't have been so anxious going in. I am going to have faith that what others say about adjusting to a changed relationship with food is true. On my way home I passed all my favorite fast food places. I thought to myself that it may be a hard journey, but that I am worth it, and so are you! My suggestion was to bring bottled water with you for the car ride home. I was so thirsty!

Hi, Count me in - I'll be getting banded the 26th too! I've had my surgery scheduled for a week or so now, but only got my insurance approval today so I'm really excited (but nervous too). The pre-op diet has been difficult for me, I started out with a headache for a couple of days and am feeling so hungry, but I'm trying to make a good start, so I'm sticking with it. Good luck to everyone!
