Any Men of March 2009 here?

Welcome waylayer73, sounds like you had a rough start. I will tell you it only gets better from here. While I am only a month out, it already has made a huge difference in my life. Keep the faith and remember to take baby steps, it is slow going at first.

Did I mention I am losing weight?

Well today was a normal day, I was busy most the day so I only got one shake in and then for dinner I had two chicken sausages, which were a bit much. I could have gotten by with just one. I also had two protein waters and of course my Vemma and vitamins. Each day I get up and the second thing I do is weigh, of course this is unofficial weight since my doctor stresses that home scales are not our official record. So unofficially I have lost 20 pounds pot LB, with the pre-op I should be down about 35 pounds. I will update my ticker following my group the last Thursday of each month with the official weight. Still not hungry, but no restriction so I can eat without any major issues.

Add a ticker to your name so we can see your progress.

    Interesting

I had read about LB's having hiccups, well today was my first time, very odd for me. In fact I seemed to be in some distress most the day. My stomach has been rumbling, my belching is more than normal and also lots of gas, I did not eat till around 11 today and then for dinner I had turkey burger, minus everything but the turkey. Maybe it is just my body making adjustments, or a least I hope that is all it is. Excuse me while I belch.............ok guess it's just one of those days. It could be a reaction to the Vemma and assorted pills I am taking, went from one pill a day to now 6. Hope I am back to normal tomorrow. :rolleyes2:

Coach, sounds like your right on target, that is awesome. I had heard that as your weight drops your performance improves. Glad to know there is some truth to that...Continue to inspire.

NewBeginnings I have the same issue with eating to much or too fast on the food. Even jello gives me a bad feeling if I eat like that. This may sound odd, but as suggested on one of these strings. I bought an appetizer plate, fork and spoon which makes me eat a small portion and since the fork and spoon are small I can only take small bites. I have to retrain myself since I use to eat fast and too much. Now I am losing weight I am only going to update my ticker each month when I go to group and get an official weight. But I am down about 25 pounds since surgery.

I have been good to myself

I was reading that you save about $400 a month on food as a LB. So I am thinking since I should eat my protein first that I should be good to myself. So Friday I went to Sam's and bought lump crab meat, flounder, scallops, and lobster tail. Then Friday night I had a piece of Flounder with a little crab on top. It was all flaky and I cooked it in Pam and just a pat of butter. It went down good, no more than I eat now this should last me through the month. Last night I made a turkey burger. I used the Italian seasoned ground turkey and some southwest Eggbeaters added a few spices and got 4 burgers out of a pound package. It went down good as well. Since I cooked all 4 I plan to have another tonight. Still just eating one meal a day 1-2 shakes and no snacks, even thought I was told I could have some 2% string cheese which I bought and only ate once. Just no desire. I am still trying to add a couple of protein waters into the mix. So far I am not wanting, I actually cooked dinner for my friend tonight and I can't eat any of it, but again I have a goal. One of which is not to mess up my band, so I am sticking to my doctors orders. Only have one more week off work before I go back to the grind. Also I still notice I am cold more than normal, I use to keep the AC or heat at 65, now at 70 I am cold. I am also sleeping more and better. I use to be up by 4am no matter what, now I sleep to 7,8, or 9. That will change when I go back to work since I work 6-3 but I don't think I have ever slept like that. Still no exercise other than normal activities,I will start walking when I go back to work.

WOW, BIGBOSSMAN, I can't imagine. I drink all I want, I just don't want much. I drink protein water, bottled water with a Special K 5gm protein pack added to it. I think I have to drink protein, since I use to drink 6-10 bottles of water a day, now I am good to get 2-3 in. Just don't want it. I understand about the cokes. I use to drink 12 16oz diet cokes a day, I reduce by one every 15 days till I was diet coke free and have not had any additional desire for them. The only thing I drink now is the protein waters and the shakes. Still just eating one meal a day, but I am feeling good. Hope you come out of this soon, it has to be a drag.

NewBeginnings, I hope it works out as well. I am sorry that you have had such issues. I know everyone is different. The reason I thought it might be gas is because I still on occasion have shoulder pain, even though it was not bad past the first day. I had read on here I believe there is a little more to it than just the gas they inflate you with. But since I read this for 14 months before my band I could not direct you to the specific thread. I know my doctor had to pull my stomach down when he did the surgery. I really don't know what that means or if it was related to the LB or the hernia he repaired. I just can't even imagine having to consider removing the band. Let me know how you proceed and I will keep you in my thought.

NewBeginnings, I am sorry you are still having shoulder pain, are you sure all the gas has worked out. Maybe some walking will resolve the issue. I know every doctor is different but I am on two protein shakes a day and one protein meal. I have begun to transition to real food, mainly protein. Not much room for anything else. I am not sure I could eat peanut butter. Remember as you transition you will need to monitor what you eat and you still have to reduce calories to lose weight. But right now you are healing and don't worry about that scale, it will come in time. Just keep the faith and keep heading in the right direction.

LapLady, remember the LB works over time reducing the amount you eat. If you stick to what your doing the weight will come off. We all get stuck and may go periods without losing, but as long as you have reduced your intake of food and calories the weight will come off, Keep the faith....

SillyGoose, looks like your doing great. I have not started my walking yet, so your ahead of me. Remember your still healing so the weight loss will come. BAD ice cream, I know it twisted your arm and made you eat it. LB is just a tool, it's your decision on how you will use it. You might need to get it out of the house if that is your weakness. I am pulling for you, show us the way...
  18. While I am still on mushes for this week I decided I would sample some real food tonight. I had made a simple casserole of egg noodles, cream of chicken soup, cheddar soup, broccoli, and chicken, topped with a little cheddar. I actually made this for my friend, but decided I would have a little. So I got our my appetizer plate and fork that I bought pre-band and served myself a very small portion, about a 1/4 of a cup. Thinking I would not be able to get it down. I took my time chewed well and poof it was gone. I now have more confidence that the band and I will work together. PLEASE NOTE, I have not had a fill other than the little he put in the band at surgery. I could probably eat anything. But still no hunger and I only ate that as a test of real food. If I get on the scale tomorrow and I have gained an ounce, I will just die . But I also know I can't continue eating baby food the rest of my life. First step, I know it should have been all protein, but it was not planned. Tomorrow I plan to try some fish for dinner. Thanks to all who commented on my blog, I am glad it helps. You can also read my chain in the "Men's Room" Men of March. Thanks all:smile:

I am from Bryant Arkansas, right outside Little Rock. I did not get the realize band, I got a 10CC standard. I had read, I believe on this site that the Realize Band had some limits, I can not state that as a fact nor did I research that band, so people who have that band, please don't beat me up. I will say I am pleased as punch at this point.

BigBossMan; WOW that sounds horrible. I had nothing like that , I though my heaving after surgery was bad enough. Are they sure that it is only swelling? My thoughts are with you and it will get better. Monday is Three weeks for me and I am eating food again, very little now, but still it seems more like a lifestyle. I do not have hiccups, but belch a lot and the doctor said it is from swallowing air. Hope you feel better soon and best of luck.

Xavier, you don't need to shave the downtown area for the surgery, but remember they will be putting a cath in so you want to look your best . I shaved between my breast and my belly button and that seemed to work, better safe than sorry. Also don't worry about the cath, you will be out cold when they put it in and take it out, other than a little after burn you won't even know they did it. In fact, don't worry about the whole procedure, the anticipation is much worst than the actuality. I don't really even remember the day once the guy put the little shot in my IV. Best of luck to you, I am so glad I had it done.

    First Post LB Visit

I had my first follow-up visit yesterday all went well. Signed up for a Vemma Program it is super shot supplement drink, my doctor suggested it. I had lost another 1.5lbs since Thursday. I still have no hunger and only eat one meal a day with two protein shakes. Life is good. Oh, my scars are looking great , been doing the Maderma. I discussed my belching, the doc said I am an air swallower and since the conversation, I have caught myself doing just that. I will try to break that habit. Also I discussed my lack of energy and exercise with him. He told me I was still healing and not to worry about it at this point. I go back in 3 months unless I begin to get hungry. He thinks I may be one of those who won't need a fill, or at least not much as he explained one of his patients has lost 111 pounds in 6 months with no fills. I should add he put in some fill when he does the surgery and if I eat anything close to a cup I get a very bad feeling.I still have about a week and a half before going back to work and am glad to have the time off, I am amazed of the ones who go right back to work. You are better than I, guess some don't have a choice. But my advice to anyone having the LB, if you can take some time, please do. I know I also had hernia surgery but still I have needed this time. On a brighter note, I bought a new kitchen canister to put my shake mix in and have all my supplements lined up in the spice cabinet. So what I am saying is I have Incorporated LB into my life. Also I still refuse to let anyone make changes to their life because of my LB, I carry enough guilt without having that to shoulder. So eat what you want, invite me to dinner, or a party. I can cope, this is all about me so don't try to make it about you. I will be giving you my fat clothes on the way to a better me. If you read my blog, please leave a comment, so I know this is helping someone other than myself. Even though if no one reads it I am ok, since this is about me:thumbup:

I am jealous of the sleep you got, I only could get a few hours the first week. No so jealous of the throwing up. The worst is behind you in two weeks you will be moving on with your life.
