When is it enough of a fill?

I was in the exact same place this morning. I did have a fill today, .6 cc's, which makes somewhere around 5.5 cc's in a 10cc band. My dr told me the morning tightness was normal and to stick with Protein shakes for Breakfast...or try hot tea first to loosen it up, if I must have food. I've been on thick liquids for the rest of today but have not had any problem. I've noticed that it is MUCH tighter but so far not that is causing a problem. Good luck!
  2. Guess I don't really understand...you either feel a stick to get lidocaine or you feel a stick to get your fill. So why get stuck twice? I've never been numbed and, to me, it's just a little pinch.

How soon can I hold my son?

My doctor told me nothing over 15 pounds for two weeks. I have a four year old, so it was pretty easy to get her to help me out.

    I resisted!

    Awesome!! You did great!

    Sleeping

I've slept on my side since the first night. I had no choice really, because I had to stay one night in the hosp and the bed wreaked havoc on my back. As soon as I was home I was sleeping on my side and stomach. My incisions never hurt and the pressure of sleeping on my stomach helped with the gas.

    Swollen ankles

I've had the same problem and for me it's definitely sodium. I just had a fill yesterday and am on thick liquids now. Even though I'm having low sodium soup, my hands and feet are balloons. I have to really bump up my water. Also, when I was pregnant I had this problem My doctor had me lay on my sides (especially the left) and keep my feet elevated. This helped my body to release the fluids. I know how uncomfortable it can be so I'm wishing you all the best in figuring a fix quickly!!
  7. I guess I'm confused about what I thought restriction would feel like. I eat my four ounces with no problem. I have to remind myself to go slow and chew well, but I haven't felt what I thought was restriction. What I am experiencing is no more hunger, yet not really a fullness or satiety, but just not interested in any more food. Then I stay hunger-free. Today, I forgot about lunch because I didn't get hungry. Since I'm restricted to three four ounce meals and no snacks, I will have to make sure to shedule eating. I was really worried about things getting stuck or PBing and I'm just kind of surprised. Please don't get me wrong, I am not complaining in any way but just wondering if I am in a "normal" category??

    Dr. Atkinson & Dr. Soong

Dr. Atkinson did my surgery. It went very well and I am happy with his work. However, I was told at a support meeting that Dr. Soong is amazing with follow-up care...
  9. after having no loss last week (3 1/2 weeks postop,) I have lost two pounds this week. It puts me at 40 lbs lost and out of the 300's and into the 200's! Woo Hoo!!! I never thought I would ever leave those three's again! Tomorrow is my first fill. I'm taking baby steps in my goals but I can't wait to hit Onederland one day! Thanks for letting me share!

Weight loss prior to first fill

I was banded two days before you. It was exactly the same for me. Many on here as well as my doctor told me it is perfectly normal.
  11. I didn't have anything heavy like what you've got. I did start bleeding mid-cycle and it lasted until my normal period would have ended...
  12. It is his responsibility to figure out the problem. Don't let up on him until he does. I'm wishing you the best for a quick solution!
  13. I am really frustrated right now. I will be four weeks post-op on Wed. The first three weeks I lost 23lbs. This fourth week, NOTHING!!! During pre-op my doc told me that any weight lost during the recovery time is a bonus loss, especially after starting mushies. He said that some even gain a little weight during the return to solids (and before a fill.) I don't get evaluated for a fill until next Monday. I have been weighing all of my food and calculating calories, protein, fat, etc. (actually my scale tracks it all for me.) Working out everyday, too. Anyway, even though it makes complete sense to me, as explained by the Dr., I am still beating myself up for no loss this week. Any advice for conquering the "mind games??"
  14. Do it if you think it will help. It works for me. I finally measured myself last night. Since I didn't have a loss this week, I decided it might be a good idea to start looking for other indicators of success. Good luck with the scale!
  15. Like I said on the other thread, I have to have the hubs hide the scale. I am obsessed with it otherwise. He brings it out on Sunday mornings and that's it. It's the only thing that works...for me. If it's out, I'm on it several times a day and even though I know it's natural to weigh more throughout the day, it's grounds for me to beat myself up.

    When Do You Weigh?

I have my husband hide the scale and bring it out on Sunday morning. I know I am scale crazy! And even though I know how natural it is for your weight to fluctuate in a given day, my head still plays games with me. I want to avoid "failure" thinking.
  17. The strips didn't help me. Lots of walking did. My husband patted my back a lot, too. That seemed to help as well. Just keep reminding yourself it is only temporary and will be over before you know it!
  18. I had surgery on Wed and went back to work the following Tues. I also have a desk job and only worked part of the day before I felt fatigued... I know it can be different for everyone, but my recovery was awesome. I had to stay the first night because of insurance, but I was up and doing laps around the floor later in the day after surgery. But the lady I shared the room with barely got out of bed unless the nurses prodded her. It actually felt better for me to get up and walk than to lay down too long. By the time I went home the next day, the only problem I had was the gas pain. I hope you have an easy time of it...don't rush yourself and you should be fine. Also, keep reading this board...you'll get so much great information. Good luck!!

    Band Pain???

I think the trick (for me, anyway) is to stop when you don't feel hunger anymore, not wait until you are full.
  20. I just told them all the truth. They have been very supportive, but I have been there for ten years, too. Don't know what they say behind my back, and they might talk, but that's okay. I'm doing something positive for my health and that's what matters to me. Besides, there is so much silicone in my office, I would just laugh if they bad-mouthed me!
  21. Hi All, I am three weeks post-op as of yesterday. I have lost 23 lbs since surgery for a total of 38 including pre-op. My doctor has me on mushies. I have noticed the last few days, I don't feel restriction and I'm starving very soon after eating. My next appointment is 3/2. I think I've read enough posts to understand where I'm at right now but I just need a little encouragement to get me through the next week or so. My doctors guidelines are three, four ounce meals (3oz protien, 1oz carb.) NO Snacks. I'm using Isopure (YUCK!) in between to sustain me, although it isn't working. I'm feeling confident I will stick with it but just need a little support... Thanks!
  22. Thanks everyone for the support! I know I'll get through this but it sure does help to have encouragement!
  23. I wasn't aware that I had a hernia but it was discovered during surgery. My surgeon stitched it right there. I don't believe it caused me additional recovery time at all. Except for the gas, I was feeling fine the next day.

    :crying:Emotional effects of anesthesia

I had to call my surgeon's office on the third day post-op because I was the same way. They told me a fairly significant percentage of people experience symptoms much like post-partum depression. It was due to the anesthesia. They told me to get out and walk in the sun. It made a huge difference for me. Hope you feel better soon!
  25. I didn't have that problem but it was mentioned before I left the hospital. The bariatric nurse warned me to expect the unexpected when it comes to BM's. She said some will experience constipation, some won't. I had the liquids in, liquids out, problem. Mention it to your surgeon but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your intestinal system is going through a lot of changes. Hope you feel better soon!
