Please explain PB versus slime versus throwing up to me
grammycoach posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need some help understanding terms. What does PB mean? I'm pretty sure I know what "sliming" means...as I think I've been doing that frequently lately. I'm not sure if I need to be concerned that I'm actually throwing up though. I had my first fill 10 days ago and it seems that the tightness just increased again. I tried to eat some grits today and I couldn't stop from gagging it back up. My saliva glands go crazy and bits of the grits came up with lots of slime. Is this technically throwing up? How worrisome is this? I ask because I didn't have any restriction until my first fill and I'm trying to give myself time to adjust. I'm not in danger of dehydrating, so I thought I should try to wait it out and see if the band loosens. It does seem to be better in the evening...but today's tightness was quite a surprise. I need advice. -

Your comments have helped me relax. Thanks! I was able to eat grits (and I do love them) until today. But, as I said, my band seems to be tighter today than it has been. I'm hoping it will loosen with time, as I really don't want to go for an "unfill" already. I just had my first fill and it's only 1.8 cc in a 4 cc band. -

Thanks for your reply. I'm relieved to know that I haven't actually thrown up. I was beginning to worry that it would cause my band to slip. I forgot to mention that I also have several bouts of "hiccuping" during the day. This happens even when just drinking. Any words of wisdom? -
Thanks for your recommendation. I did end up driving from Tallahassee to St. Pete for my first fill with Kathy. She is truly amazing. I will continue to make the long trip (5 hours each way) for future fills...even if they open up a fill center near me. She is that good!

Need a fill doctor close to Tallahassee

I though I'd post an update. I ended up having to drive to St. Pete for a fill. However, Kathy Gonzalez at the Fill Center in St. Pete is definitely worth the 5 hour drive (each way). I look forward to returning to her for any future fills. I highly recommend her! -
Please help! I just got banded in Mexico on January 17 and I know that I'm going to need to locate a fill doctor soon. I'd love for a local doctor, Jeffrey Crooms, to be my fill doctor, but I don't know if he'll take patients that he didn't perform the surgery on. Does anybody know if he'll take new patients for fills? How about other options in the area?

How many banders can eat bread without problems? How much and when?
grammycoach replied to coloradobanding's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the encouraging words. I did cheat by having pizza the other night. But, for the most part, I've stuck to my doctor's plan. I'm on mushies right now. I'm going to try to not cheat any more. My first fill is planned for Feb. 26. I hope I can make it. -
Anyone use Muscle Milk for protein?
grammycoach replied to CountryGirlNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't drink Muscle Milk. My good friend's son was using Muscle Milk to "bulk up" and he almost died from it! He was very lean and the Muscle Milk starting eating away his muscles. His heart, kidneys, and other muscles all started to fail. He was in the hospital for months and in rehabilitation for a year. This was a healthy 17-year old. The doctors told my friend they've seen several such instances of a bad reaction to Muscle Milk. -

I wish it was harder for me to eat breads. I was banded on January 17 and just ate my first piece of pizza last night...with the crust. No problems whatsover. I'm hoping that my first fill will provide me with some restriction. I don't seem to have any right now. I seem to be able to eat anything and I'm hungry all the time. -

After calling several places, I've found the closest fill center to be in St. Pete. So, I'm driving over 5 hours each way at the end of this month...just to get a fill. I sure hope somebody opens a fill center close to Tallahasee soon! -

I paid $7000 last month as well. You can't beat it for all the services that he and his staff provide. Of course, now, the trick is to find a place that will provide my fills. I've been unable to locate anyone closer than 5 hours away that will provide fills for Mexico-banded patients. I'm in the Tallahassee, FL area and not having much luck. -
Do you have his contact information? Do his fills include fluoroscopy?

Fill Doctors for Patients of Mexican Surgeons
grammycoach replied to Paula Spurlock Butts's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can you give me more details please? How much does she charge? Does she use flouro? What is contact number? I live in Tallahassee and I'll drive to Moultrie if necessary to find a fill center that takes Mexican-banded patients. -
I can't find a fill doctor near Tallahassee, FL
grammycoach posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so frustrated right now. I was given a list of fill doctors in the North FL/South Georgia area before I went to Mexico for my lapband surgery and there appeared to be several within reasonable driving distance. Of course, now that I've called 6 of the names/centers closest to me, NONE of them will take on patients that were banded in Mexico. Does anyone know of a reasonable fill doctor near Tallahassee, FL? By near, I mean I'm willing to drive 2 or 3 hours if need be. Please help! I need a fill now. If you have a suggestion, can you also share with me the costs? Thanks! -

How are you doing with your lap band? I hope the experience was very positive for you. I'm doing great, but I know I'll be ready for a fill by the end of the month. I called Dr. Bagnato's office and the receptionist told me that he won't take on patients that didn't have the surgery performed by him. If you get a chance, can you please check with him directly? I'm getting desperate for a fill doctor. -

Oh dear! I've called both Dr. Croom's office and Dr. Bagnato's office and they both claim they will not do fills for patients they did not perform the surgery for. Help! -
5 days post op and lots of tummy problems
grammycoach posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 5 days ago and I'm on a liquid diet still. I do get about 60 grams of Protein through Isopure Protein drinks, as well as broth, sugar free Jello, and Water. My only complaint is that I have frequent bouts of slimy diarhea (sorry to be so graphic). Of course, I also have lots of gas. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be or how to remedy this situation? Or is it just a normal part of the post-op experience? -

I was just banded by Dr. Aceves last Saturday. The whole experience was terrific. I felt very pampered and very well taken care of by the doctor and attending staff. I flew from Tallahassee to San Diego early Friday morning. My husband and I were picked up by Ernesto (who was our driver the entire trip). The drive from the airport to Mexicali took about 2 hours. As soon as we arrived at the hospital (it's beautiful and very clean), I was met by Yolando (Nina's mother) and Lucy. They took me through all my pre-op tests very quickly. We were then taken by Ernesto to a very nice hotel to spend the night. We had a terrific dinner and we were both given a sleeping pill to ease our anxiety. Ernesto picked us up at 7:00 am and my surgery was performed around 8:30 am. My husband was allowed to stay in my assigned room to wait for me. Once they brought me back to the room, I really felt pretty good. Not a lot of pain. I spent two nights in the hospital and was taken care of around the clock. My husband had a very comfortable leather couch to sleep on. Then, early Monday morning, Ernesto picked us up and drove us back to the airport. It was very easy. I was given all of my lab tests and xrays to take back with me to give my local doctor. -

I hope all goes well with your banding. My experience was great. Let me know how you're doing. BTW, why did you go to Bagnato instead of Crooms? Just curious... -

hospitals and doctors in Mexico
grammycoach replied to YUNIS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Again. I think the hospital has all the credentials that you need to feel safe. As long as your cardiac surgeon knows what you're planning and gives you any information that is needed...you should have a positive experience. -

I sent an email to the link and then was contacted by Nina. She sent me all kinds of information about Dr. Aceves, the hospital, etc. Then she sent me names and email addresses of people I could contact to ask about their experience. I was very impressed...and I'm not easily impressed. I also attended a local session with a surgeon in my home town and found that I received so much more information from Dr. Aceves. I even have his personal cell phone number to contact with any of my post op questions. I also have a nurse assigned to me that checks with me regularly. -
So what's with all the gas
grammycoach replied to BgB9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my goodness. I don't think I can live this way. Someone has to have a cure for this gas. I'm waiting for a response to the gingersnaps. Does it help with the gas or just the smell? Also, does Beano really work? Who else has tried it? -
