What should restriction feel like??
Makulafamy replied to Good4me1313's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After I got my second fill, I was trying to figure out if I had restriction. I could still eat a pretty full meal. For example, one pork chop, some corn, and half a slice of cornbread. I could still eat at a normal pace. I could eat a sandwich.:w00t: So, I called my doc bc I felt like I needed a third fill. My first fill was 4ccs, my second was 1.5. I went in and shared all my info with my doc and he said it sounded like I hadnt got restriction yet, and he gave me 1cc more. Now my friend, I have restriction! Here is the difference (for me): If I pop a few animal crackers, one popcorn chicken, half a steak fry...it gets stuck. Not only does it get stuck, but it doesnt go down. I either PB or throw it up. I have to eat small bites vs regular bites. If I dont, it gets stuck. When I do eat slow, I can still eat a whole chicken breast with some black Beans, but I am full and dont really crave food for a good amount of time. For example, I ate that for dinner last night around 6 and didnt even think about snacking after. I still can drink Water like normal. I dont have to sip. Things like yogurt dont "feel me up" or keep me full for very longer (slider food). I wouldnt want to be tighter bc I dont think solid food would go down. Does that help at all? -
I "just" walked this 5k...that was goal enough for me! It kept me motivated and set a goal that wasnt weight related. I will probably do a few more before it gets REALLY hot down here. Maybe by next year I will be a runner..or at least a jogger

Thanks Linda. You are the first to tell me that. I had to stop and process it for a few. Before you know it, you will have postop and weight loss pics too!

Help Me Get Up Off This Computer Chair!
Makulafamy replied to doodleallday's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hey, you can check out my blog. Its in my signature below. I was banded on Jan 27th, and my first plateau was enough to get me moving. My doc was very honest with me that the band only works if you work it. I didnt want to go through all of this to not lose. SO, I started walking. Now I hate walking. Before the band I would drive two blocks instead of walking it. But, I started walking 1 mile, and then I added half a mile every week. I walk outside. SO, I did my first 5k yesterday. I took 2nd place in my age group! It felt so good. If I can do it, YOU can do it. It helps you feel better mentally! My boss who is an exercise fiend, always has this response when people say they dont have time "Well, you find time for the things you WANT to do dont you?" Thats a good point. Good luck. You can do this. Some is better than none. If you lived in Pensacola you could walk with me! :smile2: -

Walmart & Death Bites (aka Popcorn chicken)
Makulafamy replied to Makulafamy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Like always, I think you are right (you are very wise in all your posts). I ate a chicken breast tonight off the grill. No problem. Early today though I ate a few animal crackers and...PROBLEM....other times when I am paying more attention, I can eat them just fine. But, I just popped them in my mouth in passing. -
Walmart & Death Bites (aka Popcorn chicken)

Oh it totally one. It was the weirdest thing...it was like a mouthful of foam (at least the first one in my car). I had waited too...it had been like 8 hours since I ate. Thanks for all the replies...its so helpful to hear what has gotten others in the same situation. -

I was 327 when I had surgery. Some docs try to push the gastric bypass, but my doc told me the pros and cons of each. He had no reservations about the band for me except that you can cheat the band and you have to work at it. I still chose the band and love it! Good luck. Keep going to until you feel a doc you feel comfortable with.

LOL, aint that the truth If that would have happened to me, I would have thought he recognized I was out working my ass off on my journey to become the hot woman trapped inside! Dont give it much thought. Keep up the good work!

I had my third fill and can finally feel restriction. A good amount:thumbup: Howevever I need some help. I have PB'd once and threw up today. Last night I tried to eat a bite of slice peaches. I maybe got down one slice and after about 5 minutes, I PB'd. Yucky. I could feel it coming on, like my slobber was getting stuck. Then today I went and got a chick-fil-a sandwich, threw the bread away, and got out my knife and fork. I cut it in very small pieces, and was about 20 minutes into eating it when I could feel a piece just sitting in my throat. So I stopped. I waited about 5 minutes and had to go the bathroom and out it came. SO, am I eating too fast or too much? How do you know when to stop? I dont want to eat too much and stretch out the band, but it seemed like everything was fine and then BAM! Not fine. Suggestions?
