ANY regrets getting the Vertical Sleeve?
FabBy50 replied to pumpkin07's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
No Sliming is associated with the band only. It is whan you eat something your band does not like, and you just keep spitting up this slimy stuff. Sometimes it goes on forever. It is totally gross!! I have never had this since my band was out, nor have I read about a sleeved person having it. I could be wrong?? -
My surgery experience! Love my sleeve!!!!
FabBy50 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone!! Well I thought I should sit down and spend some time writing about all of my experiences!! Most of you already know me, as I do post a lot! Well I started this weight loss journey about a year ago, did a lot of research but found out not nearly enough!! I have 3 other family members who have had the band not long before me so I thought this would work for me too! WRONG!! I followed all of the rules for the band, ate right did my exercise almost every day and still lost my band! I did very well for about 6 months, I had quit losing at this point tho. I starting having trouble keeping anything down, including water! I sometimes could eat, others could not even take a bite. I started having a little pain in my left side, which progressed to severe pain. I had several tests but no conclusion, I went to a clinic with no bariactric team!! Anyway after quite a few days I called my coordinator and told her my symptoms, she said "oh honey that band needs to come out" I immediately started scheduling my flight back to Mexico. I was there within a week, and had my band out and my sleeve done! What a relief!! I could not even stand up straight because of the pain, the revision relieved all of that! I have to admit surgery was tough, I have had MANY surgeries and this was the worst. I spent 4 hours in surgery, my body had totally rejected the band, and my stomach was a mess. My surgeon "thanks Dr. Almanza" put me back together and no more pain in my side! I'm now 2 weeks out I feel great, I can't believe the amount of weight and inches I have lost!! I love my sleeve, just eat and go! No more slimming, Pb'ing, puking ETC!!!!! I still can't believe I have done this!! My sister is next, she is getting her stinking band out and getting a revision too! To all of you thinking about the sleeve, GO FOR IT!! It is so worth it! Love, love, love my sleeve:thumbup: -

Hi Motherof4 So happy you decided to go with the sleeve, it really is so easy to have! I'm still new to it, just over 3 weeks but love it! So happy for you!! Good luck and happy losing!! -
WAS THINKING BAND and NOW VSG?? HELP!!
FabBy50 replied to TDELYTE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only tell of my personal experience with the band, and it was HORRIBLE!! If you keep researching you will find more and more negative things about the band. I wish that I would have been sleeved first and never had the band. I won't go into great detail, but look at it this way do you want to have one surgery and be done or have one and then do it again in a few years. Don't know anything about the prices, I had my band and sleeve done in Mexico. Very happy with my sleeve results. If you have any questions PM me, I'm an open book! -
Congrats and good luck tomorrow!!!

FabBy50 replied to Barbara278's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Maxcat The spinal is not something they do routinely, I think it is only if you have complications and have to be under longer, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm sure someone will be able to answer that question. Yes I had stitches that had to be removed. I took them out myself. I thought of it as an adventure, it did not hurt to remove them either. I had to drink some awful tasting stuff and then they watch it go down to make sure you have no leaks. If you have a drain, you will be asked to drink and then they watch your drain to make sure none of comes out. Just standard practice to make sure you have no leaks. I don't know anyone who had to have a catheter, I don't think that would be an issue with this surgery. Glad to hear you have decided on the VSG, it is an amazing tool. I have been sleeved for three weeks, and could not be happier!!! Good luck and happy losing! -

You do NOT have the problems with malnutrition, with the sleeve. Eat well and watch what it is that you put into your month. You still have to be careful what you put into your mouth and how much of it you put in. Did not understand all of your post, saying that you need to be sleeved again, give us more info! -

Hi Sweetie You know we all want what is best for you!! And because we have all been there we have a good idea of what that is!! I will tell you here and now, I think the band is downright dangerous!!! But if that is your choice then I will hug you and hope for the best! Do I think the sleeve is the best thing since sliced bread YES!!! I think all of us overweight people could learn from the sleeve. Keep us posted on your new sleeve!!! Don't listen to me, talk to Dr B, he is an expert on weight loss. He will advise you to get the sleeve. -
Yes it will go away, and faster than you think. But getting your fluids in is very important. Eventually you will be able to do more than sip, so you won't feel like you are stuck to a glass all day. You said you are having a difficult time at home? What kind of problems? Give us some more info, so we can help you. And remember everyday does get easier, to me I would like to forget the first 3 days!! Make sure to walk, walk, walk! It really does help, even if it hurts some. Good luck!

My surgery experience! Love my sleeve!!!!
FabBy50 replied to FabBy50's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Carolyn Thanks for your reply. I so wish I would have had the sleeve first and saved myself a lot of pain & money. The band was nothing short of dangerous, I really wish they would get rid of it. I know that sounds harsh but that is how I feel. Looks like you are doing WONDERFUL!!! The sleeve is so great, love it! -

Josephine I'm so surprised that the band is still so widely used. After my experience I did more research and the woes with the band are awful. If I had my choice it would be banned! My pain with the band started 2 months before I actually got it out! I had a small amount and then it just got worse. Why is it that they could not get your port out? Was it that your skin just completely covered it? They had to cut my band out in pieces because my stomach had grown over it so much. You poor thing I feel for you. The port area is where all of my pain started. For all of the pain that the band caused, it sounds like the sleeve is giving you your life back. I sure hope they can get your port out, that will cut down on your pain. The sleeve is awesome isn't it?? I just love it, no problems what so ever!! Good luck to you, and thanks for the reply! -
Hey Ready Congrats on your surgery!!! You are going home already? Wow you must be feeling great! So happy for you and welcome to our club!! Okay I feel like a dork, totally missed the fact that you are home already!!!

I'm so glad to hear you did not cheat, after all you will be the only one that know, but you will KNOW!!! I only had to do 3 days, which I was so sick with my band complications was easy. Now if I would have been healthy and had to do 2 weeks, I would have had a touch time!!! Just think of all of the weight you will lose!! and once you are sleeved it falls off, stick to your guns!! Good luck, and happy losing!

Toni I bet this could have been written by any of us that have battled our weight. I wish that I had all the money I have spent for diets, pills, ETC!!! That is the thing I love about the sleeve, no diets! You can only eat a certain amount of food! You know it is like being NORMAL! I have many thin friends who only eat small amounts and they are done, I'm just like them now!! You will not have to diet anymore, but you will still need to be careful what you put in your mouth. Good luck!!!!!

My Last Supper... And Emotions...
FabBy50 replied to Keys Pirate's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey Key pirate We all know about our "last meal" and we understand completely!!! I look at your list now and forgive me think HOLY COW!!! But that is because I'm 3 weeks out from the sleeve! You will be so amazed at the fact that you won't feel that hunger you felt before, if anything you will feel too full all the time. I can only tell you my experience and so far I LOVE the sleeve. I'm not hungry nor do I think about food all the time, I need to remind my self to eat! If you feel like I do after your surgery, you will be one lucky lady!! I love what it has done and how I feel! I had to have a revision, so I had no regrets about having surgery, just go into it knowing how much better you will feel. How healthy you will be!! Good luck and happy losing! -
Band is coming out and revision to be done
FabBy50 replied to FabBy50's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi there I'm 3 weeks out and I LOVE the sleeve!!! I can't even begin to tell you how different it is fro the band! Night and day, I can eat!! I have not had one ounce of trouble and I lost 15 more lbs!!! If you do a revision, you will love, love, love it!! The only change is that you can not over eat! With my band most of the time I could not eat without being sick, when I could eat I had no indication of when to quit. With the sleeve you will get an indication of when you are full. I get a tight feeling in my chest, if i keep going that feeling turns into an actual pain!! Plain and simple, I quit eating. LOVE my sleeve!! Bernadette -
