    When Do You Weigh?

I would say that I fall under the category of "scale obessed"! So, for that reason, I weigh once a week only. My trash can in the bathroom sits right next to my scale, so to keep it off my mind, I set the trash can on top of the scale and therefore it is out of site and out of mind! If it gets bad, I will put it in the linen closet until weigh in day. I always weigh in the buff and after going to the ladies room!
  2. Hi!

I have to admit that this preop diet has been the hardest thing I have ever done! But I am still hanging in there and doing pretty good! I know, I worry about the liver thing too, but I am trying to keep a positive outlook about it. I am excited about the surgery and also nervous. At my last check, I had lost 8 lbs. in about a week! But the weight loss is kind of secondary to me right now simply b/c getting used to this new lifestyle has been really hard. I beleive it will be worth it in the end! We are going to have our bands soon and be losing weight and looking hot before you know it!!! : )))

Hang in there and keep your eye on the ball!!!

  3. Hi,

I am excited and nervous about the surgery, but I am ready. The diet has been hard, but I think I have done fairly well. I also think it helps in getting you ready for what is to come. That is awesome that you don't have to use your cpap machine! Success, already!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  4. Hi Laura,

It was good to hear from you! How are things going now? Did you have your appt with the surgeon yet? Wow...9 lbs. since surgery! I am sure that the weight loss will slow down to a more steady rate as times goes on. Are you still feeling gassy? Which side is your port on? I sleep on my left side most of the time, so I was wondering if I should ask the surgeon if he could put in on the right side. I am thinking maybe your day out to lunch was just what you said, a combination of car sickness and food that you might not have been ready for. This is really a time of learning and finding out what your body can or can't handle and I don't think the doctors even know exactly what to tell you to expect, since everybody has a different journey! Give yourself a big hug for your braveness and know you can make it through!! Shelley

  5. Hi Laura, how are you doing today? Just thinking about you. I go for pre-op testing for surgery today...blood work, ekg and whatever else they decide to do. The liquid diet has been tough and I have had my moments, but I am hanging in there!

    Take care!!

    Fast food!

My question may have been posted before, but I will pose it again. How do you deal with fast food after the lapband? Is it hard to eat at fast food places and if so, what sorts of things do you find you can eat and tolerate? I don't eat alot of fast food, but lets face it, sooner or later we all have busy lives and fast food comes in to our life from time to time. Any advice? Also, do you miss it if you stopped eating it? Thanks!:cursing:
  7. I have to admit that this Pre-Op diet is harder than I thought it would be. I really wanted to eat a regular meal yesterday for Valentine's Day and I talked to my husband about it. He convinced me to stick to the diet, but it was SO hard!! Just hang there and get back on the horse today and you will be fine. I think postop that you can have yogurt, pudding, jello, broth and protein shakes for the first week and then move into soft foods and then finally solid food. I think it just depends on how your body reacts to them as to when or how soon you have them. My surgery is scheduled for early at 7:30 am, but I have to be there at 6am. It's like it will never get here, but you know it will! Good luck and hang in there!

  8. There are many things, but the top 3 are: 1. Go shopping for clothes that I WANT, rather than what I have to get to fit a petite, obese woman! 2. Wear a bathing suit with my cover! 3. Be able to shave the bikini area...and see what I am doing! ha ha
  9. Help! I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet, which is Optifast liquid diet. I am SO hungry! Any advice for fighting the hunger monster? My surgeon's office says to stick to the liquid diet only and to drink more shakes if I am still hungry. I live with my husband and two teenage kids. My husband is doing the liquid diet with me for support (:frown:) and my kids are fending for themselves. I do okay until I smell the food they are making! I work at home and my office is about 5 feet from the kitchen! :cursing: It's going to be a long journey! But I am hanging in there...just wanted some advice or pep talk! You guys are awesome! :frown:

    Pre-op diet...So Hungry!

Thank you guys so much for your advice and kind words, they really do help! It's day 4 now and it is getting better, but today being Valentine's Day is rough because we usually celebrate with a nice dinner. But I am trying to keep the big picture in focus and remember why I am doing this!! I have been putting berries in my shakes in the mornings. It seems about 3pm-ish, I get really hungry and want to chew something! I have chewed 2 packs of gum in the last 4 days! ha ha
  11. Hi Gretchen,

How are you doing on your preop diet? I am doing okay on my liquid diet, but I have to admit there have been moments that I just wish I could eat anything other than a protein shake! I am sipping some vegetable broth right now. Today is rough being that it's valentine's day and we usually celebrate with a nice dinner....urgh! But, hey we can do it and it won't be long until surgery and before you know it we will be eating regular food again, albeit smaller amounts!! Good luck to you and I hope you are doing well!

    Take care,

    Shelley

  12. Hi Laura,

I am so happy that your surgery went well and you are back home! Yeah!!! I know they say that the for the next few weeks, its really about healing and not so much about what you eat. Do you know if your surgeon filled your band? Some don't fill them until later and some fill them in surgery. Mine says he does it in surgery, so there is immediate restriction. I am excited and can't wait. This liquid diet is hard though, especially today on Valentine's Day, when we usually celebrate with a nice dinner. I just have to remember that soon enough, I will be eating regular food again and so will you! Take it easy and rest. Take good care of yourself. I have been on here alot the past few days for support, it really does help! Talk to you soon!

  13. I am scheduled for surgery on 2/25/09 and I have to do a 2 week preop diet. Mine is a liquid diet using Optifast (kind of like slimfast). I am on day 3 of the liquid diet and it's been rough, but hopefully it will get better. They say the hunger goes away. The goal is to reduce the size of your liver and belly fat, as well as show that you are committed to the changes necessary for lapband. Good luck to you and don't be afraid to ask any questions!! This site is wonderful and the people here are willing to help - just ask!
  14. Hi Laura,

I am so excited for you!!! Finally, surgery!!! I bet you are nervous, but try not to be! Had you already been on your preop diet before they canceled your first surgery and made you go through more tests? I guess what I am saying is, did you have to do the preop diet twice now? My preop diet is completely liquid diet! I am on day 2 and I am so hungry!! I sure hope it gets better, because I have to be on this for 2 weeks preop and 1-2 weeks postop! Best of wishes to you tomorrow! I will keep you in my thoughts!

  16. Hi. I wish they would let me do a diet like that with real food! Mine is putting me on a liquid diet called Optifast. It's 5 shakes a day...period. I hear the first few days are hell, but afterward it gets better. 2 weeks of that! Yikes! But I also hear that you can lose up to 20 lbs. on the liquid diet! It would be a good head start to the weight loss. Then I have to be on the liquid diet for 1 more week after the surgery. Good luck with your diet and keep in touch...we will need support during this week! Take care!

  17. Hi Gretchen! We are getting banded on the same day...how cool is that?! Are you excited? I am excited, nervous and ready to get this going! I start my liquid diet on Wednesday. What type of preop diet are you having to do? Good luck and let's keep in touch! : )

  19. Hi Laura,

Well, I know it was disappointing that you have to reschedule your surgery because of the EKG, but at least they are being careful and making sure you are a good surgical candidate. I have had both of those tests before and it was not a big deal. The stress test was kind of weird, but I made it! I will have my preop testing in the next week or two, so no telling what I will have to either. I start my liquid preop diet on 2/11/09. I have to say - not looking forward to that phase. Maybe we will have similar surgery dates! We may be Februrary Bandsters! I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Don't worry...it's going to happen!! : ))))

  20. That is so exciting you got an appointment! This has been a crazy busy week, hopefully I will get to chat with you soon! Take care! : )

  21. Hi Cindy, Thanks for all the wonderful information! I think I will be good with the carbonated drinks, as I don't drink them anyway. I had to quit them some time ago because they upset my stomach, so it was habit I already broke. Yeah! Hey, my surgeon is also Dr. Veninga. He is great and his office is wonderful! Maybe I will see you around the support groups or walks?!
  22. Okay, if you haven't noticed yet, I do ask alot of questions! But I want to be well informed! I am scheduled for surgery on 2/25/09 and start my pre-op liquid diet on 2/11/09. My doctor wants me use Optifast HP (which I get from his office). It's 5 shakes a day...period. No other foods. I am curious who has had this pre-op diet, what they thought about it, how they coped and any other words of advice! Thanks guys...you are wonderful!
