  1. Hi Sommer, It's getting better each day. The gas pains are subsiding, but the bloating is still there. I am up walking each day and trying to go back to work. I work at home, so that makes it easy. I am only good for a few hours of work at a time though. I haven't been tolerating the protein drinks or anything for that matter very well. But I keep trying. I got some chewable vitamins for now, but will probably get some liquid vitamins from GNC or something soon. How are you doing?? Thanks for the hugs.....hugs back to you****

It is my understanding as well that carbonated drinks and juices are not on the list of things we can have. Although my doctor said that apple juice would be okay during the first week postop, since it's not really about weight loss in the postop stage, but rather healing the body. The first week for me (my surgery was 2/25/09) is just whatever I can tolerate! I say use moderation and your own good judgement!

Nice bonus, getting your period in the midst of all this pain! I can relate, I got mine too!! : ))) At least we are getting all that out of the way and in a week or so, we should be feeling great! Good luck to you!
  4. Hi, just checking in! Sorry I didn't reply to your last comment, I missed it. I am from Texas, around the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. I had my surgery this past Wednesday. I am still recovering from the surgery, but feeling better every day! How have you been?

  5. Hi Amber!

Just checking in with you! How are you doing? I had my surgery this past Wednesday and I am feeling pretty good, still in some pain, but pretty good. I am looking forward to this journey!! Take care,

    Shelley

    The journey begins

My surgery was 2/25/09 at 7:30 am. I have a 10 cc Lap-band. My starting weight was 203, I was 193 at surgery and goal is 130. During surgery, the doctor found and repaired a hiatal hernia. I have had acid reflux for many years and have been on medicaiton for this...having the hernia fixed should remedy the acid reflux!:cool2: So, I am now 3 days post-op. I am still in pain and have alot of gas discomfort with pain in my left shoulder and left side. I am not hungry at all! I am on a full liquid diet for the next 1-2 weeks. When I do have a protein shake, I feel so full for many hours and just feel icky. I hope that passes. I am so excited to begin this journey of losing weight and using the lapband as my tool. I love to motivate other people and really feel that LBT is a very good place for support. It also lets me know that there are still some really nice people in this world! Thank you to all my new LBT friends!:wink2:

  8. Hi Laura,

I am feeling better today, everyday gets a little bit better. The gas pains are still there, but not as much. I am not taking much pain medication anymore, but a little sore and bloated feeling. I have no appetite and have to struggle to get a whole protein drink down! Did your doctor fill your band at all at the time of surgery? Mine explained to me that in the beginning the stomach is swelled enough to cause some restriciton and then at 6 weeks, I get a real fill. I am so glad to hear you are doing so well at 2 weeks postop! And 2 lbs. lost! Yeah! It will be fun to watch the scales drop and the clothes sizes go down! Yippee!! I am trying to take it easy and not over do it. I have been walking some, but tire real easy. Take care and hope to talk to you soon!

    4 days banded

I was banded on 2/25/09. It's been a bumpy ride and I was in a lot of pain until yesterday afternoon. I am trying to keep the pain meds to a minimal (FYI - too much pain meds = constipation). Speaking of that, I have not had ANY movements since surgery. I was on clear liquids for 1 day post surgery and now I am on full liquids of protein shakes, broth, SF pudding and jello and yogurt. But I am not very hungry and when I do eat, it hits my stomach kind of hard and I just have to wait it out to feel better. My gas pains are getting better and walking, heat pad and GasX have helped that. My stick sites are still sore, but getting better. I actually slept in my bed last night and on my side! It wasn't the best night of sleep, but it wasn't bad either. I think in a weeks' time, all of us banded this week will feel ALOT better! Keep up the good works girls and boys!!
  11. I had the same thing! I weighed 3 lbs. more the day after surgery! But I feel like a bloated whale right now, so I guessing its the gas, anesthesia, surgery, etc. I weighed this morning, 4 days since surgery and was down 4 lbs.! I think not weighing for the first week is a marvelous idea! Wish I had thought of that!
  12. Just wanted to say Hi, I saw you on one of the threads and saw that you just had surgery, Congrats! Mine was 2/25/09. It's been a tough journey so far, but it's getting better every day! Walking has helped the gas pains alot for me. I don't really have much hunger yet. The pain after surgery was way worse than I had imagined, but I am getting through and so will you!!! Best wishes!!

  13. I am about 35 hours postop and I have been in more pain than I had imagined! At times, I would rate my pain as 7-8/10 and then others around 3-4/10. I have had a c-section and tubal ligation before, but it was also 15 years ago...hence I am 15 years older!! I think that makes a difference. The gas pain has been bad in the shoulder, just like everyone says. GasX and heating pad are what help me and moving around. The stick sites are pretty sore too and sleeping has been only on my back so far and in the recliner. I am going to try the bed tonight and see how it goes. I hear that after day 3, it should be going nowhere but up! Hang in there guys and don't regret the band, I think you will see what a great choice you have made in the near future! Take care!
  14. Shonia,

Surgery went well! I was home by 2:30 that afternoon. Turns out I did have a hiatal hernia and the doctor repaired it! yeah! Hopefully, no more reflux. The gas pains are pretty bad...my left shoulder has been the worst! I have a pain pump and liquid Lortab. I have been using GasX and a heating pad for the gas...its about all that helps. I had alot of pain last night because I let too much time pass between pain meds. Won't make that mistake again. Haven't been hungry at all. Been on clear liquids until this evening, had a protein shake and felt icky for about an hour afterwards.

  15. -continued-

I don't have alot of energy and I am really sore, but overall I think I am doing pretty good. I can't sleep in my bed yet, I have been in the recliner. I think I will be better tomorrow. They put a 10 cc lap-band on me. They said my liver looked good and had no problems! I was happy about that. I go for a check up this Tuesday and then for a fill in 6 weeks. It should be interesting! Thank you so much for keeping me in your prayers and thoughts...it must have worked!!

It's time for some pain meds and bedtime, so I will talk to you soon!

    Liquid diet time

I hear you!!! I am on day 14 of the liquid optifast diet! It has been the toughest thing I have ever done, honestly! My kids are teenagers, so I bought them stuff they could heat up or something easy, so we didn't have to cook. Last night, they made Hamburger Helper and I thought I was going to go insane! Okay, normally, Hamburger Helper would have NOT turned me on much, but it smelled like heaven! I finally snuck in the kitchen for 1 bite, then gave the leftoevers to the dog for my own protection! ha ha! I have only had coffee, optifast, broth, water and some crystal light, but I don't really like it. It's very interesting to me how different each doctor is with their pre-op diets. Some prefer liquid only, some 3 day liquids, some use the Atkins or Southbeach diet and then I have heard of some people having no pre-op diet at all!! It seems each surgeon has his/her own set of rules! Good luck to you all and just remember when the times are tough and you are questioning yourself or your decision - that it will get better and you are doing this for a reason...YOU! Best wishes ~ Shelley
  22. Getting nervous!!! How about you??!

  23. When you go back to work, just take it day by day and only tell people if and when you are ready. I have not told everyone, only the important people in my life. I have had some opposition from some of them already, but only because they think that I am not big enough for surgery! Whatever, I am not listening to them. They don't know the struggle I have had. I am glad that I am able to encourage you, you have definitely encouraged me as well! We have a long road ahead, but one I actually look forward to!!

  24. Hi Laura,

Thank you for all the wonderful information you are sharing with me!! It sure helps to have buddies in this journey. Wow, .75 to 1 lb a day!! Amazing! :w00t: It is going to be a fun to see how our bodies morph into something we probably have seen in years! I know I am looking forward to having some variety in my diet and actually look forward to the post-op diet! - cont -
