Just been for my stitches out. The nurse 'tidied' me up and snipped off the ends from the dissolving ones. She was fascinated to hear they were from a gastric band op! I think I will be the talk of the staff room at tea break ! I'm going to confess all to the doctor tomorrow. I didn't actually get around to telling him though I did mention it when I took my baby in for an appointment. I just didn't want him putting me off. I have tried pretty much everything to lose weight and yep I know the risks of the surgery and concluded that it was worth it! I had some mashed cauliflower, cheese sauce and some tiny pasta shapes I use for my baby foods last night. It went down no problem. I had porridge for breakfast that too went down well. In terms of volume I have stopped eating before I normally would but am surprised how much I can eat with ease so I am gonna be watching it! Mmm - I know how you are feeling! Gary - thanks for the calorie counter, that's a good starting point.

Hi there What a pain over the fills eh? Yes I was told if you go to Belgium for the fills you can have double i.e. one the day you arrive and then the following morning and I think they only charge 50 euro (probably per fill). I think it was Frederick that told me the night before the op. When did you first try toast? I'm still on liquids and those dutch toast things! Mushies in a few days time - any suggestions beyond the obvious mash potatoes/carrots/swedes, porridge, scrambled eggs etc? I must be on the mend - been to an animal park place today but no Sunday lunch out for Mothering Sunday! A bowl of soup wouldn't cut the mustard when roast beef is on offer!! Mand and Mandy your op dates will soon come around. As for suggestions for the low fat diet I just tried to stay off things with anything more than 4g of fat in 100g but it went a bit wrong as we went to Bruges/Brussels for a week before the op! It was hard eating out to always judge what you were eating (ordered extra veg and them being covered in butter!!) As for things to take out there get yourself some smooth cup a soups, some juice, calpol 6+ or lemsip for the paracetamol (the ones they give you in hospital are nasty!!), rennies for if you get trapped wind, energy tablets (dextro/luzocade) and some loose comfy clothes!!

Hi Big Bones! Glad to hear that everything went well for you! I was banded a few days before you on Friday 13th! I am doing well too, still suffering with the gas though! Let us know how you get on. The baby is still vomiting so is on nil by mouth expect for the rehydration drink poor thing so poor hubby is looking after both of us! I found this link and it made me laugh! That's where I've been going wrong! This is why you're fat. Sorry don't think it's come out as a proper link.

Thanks for the offer. The food sounds very tempting but there's enough vomit going on in our house thank you very much!! :tongue_smilie: I agree - ditch the other 4 working days and have that Friday feeling everyday!

Hi Fatpants - glad you are back safe and sound! I did keep my eye open for you on Monday at the Campanile hotel! We left about 1pm but you probably arrived later. Shame you got the gas in the shoulder. I had it the other end after that barium meal!! I am one week post op now and feel so much better. Everyone is right you feel so much better everyday after about day 4 so you are on the home straight now. Gary - I'm glad you got sorted and managed to get a fill too. I hope you aren't feeling too battered and bruised! Flirtylass - I hope you get some restriction at your next fill. That's not good is it to have non at all after all your fills? You are doing really well though :tongue_smilie:. When you have a bad day try and make the next day a fresh start and remember how good it felt buying clothes in River Island!! I tried some french onion soup a little while ago. I think the pieces of onion were a bit big - it hurt gonig down so my husband can have the rest. I will pretend I made it for him and not me  Got to go to doc's later. The baby has been vomitting for 2 days now and won't eat/drink anything much. I am just glad hubby is here and I hope we don't get it! Poor ickle thing, he's not happy and he's been banned from his bouncing/jumpy toy thing until he's better! Happy Friday afternoon to everyone else - Freckles, Tanya, Gillian, Bigsis, mmm, Wishful, bobobaldy, Can't Weight and anyone I have missed!! xxxxx

Bless you! I don't think that I would've made my decision so easily without this forum - I know I wouldn't have! The little tips are really useful and everyone is lovely. Even better everyone is at a different stage so someone will have been where you are. How's the funding going? Not the best time to be looking for loans I guess, let us know how you get on. Hubby has just put a pizza in the oven! :sneaky: My god he knows how to use the oven as well as the microwave!! . I'm having my goodnight Lemsip to get my paracetamol fix!! Thanks mmm I will try those vitamins - have always been a wimp when it come to soluble medication!!

I will have a look for the dutch bakes in Sainsbury's tomorrow. I was annoyed Waitrose have run out - grrrrrrrrrr! I don't think the liquid only diet helps bloating but it's all worth it I guess! Where are you getting ur fills done? I am getting my first one done in Manchester as it's an hour from my mum then it'll be London after that. I tried some of the liquid multi Vitamin and it's nasty! Me and medicine!! Has anyone found any vitamin tablets that go down OK once on solid foods? I feel like a lady of leisure as my husband is doing all the baby chores!! I just feed him and that's it! (Baby not husband! He's on micromeals for a week :sneaky:!!) I wonder how Fatpants got on? She must be back tomorrow. I did keep my eyes open on Monday lunchtime as we left the Campanile!!

Yeah you do have to try and get a few calories down don't u? I am aiming for at least 1000. The weight is coming off already! I feel so bloated though with gas and liquid!! I tried to get some of those biscuit things they gave us in hospital as I was told we could have them at home as they melt in your mouth. They'd sold out when I did my on line shop so I got some quavers! I feel a bit nauseous still and they seem to help. I have some liquid Multivitamins I need to start taking too. I haven't had any painkillers today which is good. I have been having lemsip to get the paracetamol inside me :sneaky:! I tried the nurofen melts and they made me heave! I am soooo bad at taking any medication you can taste!! I have booked my first fill for one day short of 4 weeks. Do people think that is OK? Otherwise it's gonna be 7 weeks and I really don't wanna wait that long!

Best of luck tomorrow. I hope you are able have a fill too. What does the lump look like? I have a painful lump in my inside arm just past my wrist where the central line was put. It's not huge but I think it's getting slightly bigger. I'll give it a couple of days and go docs if it doesn't go.

Oh dear - I hope your wind gets better! And I hope mine doesn't get any worse!! After 'holding it in' during the car journey yesterday I felt like I had relapsed last night! Good job our bathroom doesn't join on to anyone else's house!! :lunch: I had better keep away from sprouts and cabbage when I am onto mushy foods!

I am glad it wasn't me who dropped the baby anyway!! Maybe it was a sneaky plan by my husband for me not to trust him alone with the baby again!! :lunch: I've just been laughing at your turkey dinosaur incident again and it hurts to laugh! Ouccccccccccchhh! My husband was trying to make me laugh before the rotter!! Glad you are getting your fills sorted. How often can you have them done with WLS? Is it as hard to get an appointment? Sounds like they are very good anyway.

Thanks guys for your messages! I know this is gonna be a long struggle but the battle has commenced!! I think I will get some Nurofen melts, I was thinking we had to have paracetamol. I may try and go for a little walk later. My husband doesn't go back to work until 2 weeks on Friday so he is doing pretty much everything! Yay!! I will phone him if I get stuck in the village and can't make it home!! I think one of the most uncomfortable things about the surgery was when they took the drain out - didn't like that!! :lunch: Well I have done my on line shop consisting of lots of juices, smoothies, soups etc and I have told my hubby I am not cooking for a week as I will probably forget and have a little taste! Flirtylass - I looked at you photos on FB - they are lovely. You should be vvvvvvvvery pleased! Wishful - I will be hoping I don't get the trapped wind! I am windy enough as it is!! :w00t: Bigsis - have a nice night. A liquid supper of White Russians sounds just the job !

Hi there peeps - I'm home!! We got back late this afternoon, I feel asleep on the sofa and have just woken up! Well, I am OK, far better than I thought actually but feeling a bit stiff after being in the car for 6 hours. I had my op about 1145am on Friday. I still have some pain in my upper abdomen but it's not awful. I do have the diarrhea still from the barium meal!! A windy girl!! I didn't have any of the shoulder pain or anything which was good. The area on my arm just past my wrist is sore and has a lump where the central line was located. I found the whole procedure very slick. Everything was done in the timescales they said, the nurses were VERY helpful (especially Annelais and Ellen) and Dr Chris/Frederik were very charming/helpful. If I had to pick at anything I felt the late afternoon and evening after the op to be a bit oppressive as the room had not TV and there was just 1 other Flemish lady in there who'd had another kind of op. I would recommend taking an ipod or something - I just didn't think to take mine! My husband and baby did pop by a couple of times for an hour but I was too sedated to chat much but couldn't sleep! Talknig of husbands and babies - they ended up in A&E Saturday afternoon! Hubby was changing the babies nappy in the maternity ward, bent down to get a nappy and he fell off the table (baby not husband!!). I don't know who was more upset - my husband or the baby! Anyway both are OK now, no lasting damage!! But my husband is on baby duty for the next 2 weeks so I had better keep my eye on him! We had a lovely time in Bruges/Brussels beforehand but god lord it was hard to stay away from the chocolate and waffles! I did have one waffle with cream and ice cream and OMG it was to die for!! I had a last supper - a double McDonald's meal in the centre of Brussels! (It was 3pm had I hadn't eaten a scrap all day so please forgive me!) Did anyone find any decent tasting painkillers to take? Been using Calpol 6+ but heaving as so sickly! Anyway - how is everyone else? Will try and read some of the threads but just in case pls update me! I will write some more tomorrow when I will hopefully be less windy!! LOL!!

Hi everyone thanks for the well wishes!! I am very excited!! I still have a bit of packing to do and I volunteered to drive the first leg of the journey so I had better not get to bed too late! We've ordered a take-away. I am having a mouthwatering salad in a pitta bread!! I won't look at my husband's chicken shish and chips! I think he has been having a sneaky look on the forum so he's totally cool about it all. He will defo be on baby duty for a good few days!! I'm trying to get some travel insurance from All Clear as bigsis recommended but it's going soooooooo slow! I will try and log on at some point in Belgium - looked at the weather report and it gives heavy rain for the weekend and Monday in Bruges!! :cursing: Take care everyone and see you soon xxxxx

Freckles - glad to hear that you are doing well and I really hope ur mum gets better soon. Flirtylass - I hope that your body starts to get back to normal. It should do after a few good meals! At least you have warning signs and can put things right. Shoes and Kaka's daughter - good luck for tomorrow!!! I'll be thinking about you! I am leaving for Belgium tomorrow. My brain is on overload - I think we need removal truck with all the stuff we have to take! How can one small baby need so much?! I will try and log on before my op in Bruges/Brussels! My husband has gone out with the baby to get a satnav - on a 'technical boys misson'...............say no more I wasn't invited!! We'll probably end up in Poland or something :crying:! Hello to everyone else!! xxxxx

Hi Shoes - gosh it won't be long until Friday will it? Also good luck to you Kaka! I am having my op the Friday after you so have just started my pre-op diet. The weekend was a bit shakey but back on track now. I am still eating lots though are you? Just nothing with much fat in or fat free!! I am very excited but nervous! The peeps on here have been my lifeline. I am not sure I would've been so decisive without this forum. I have been gathering list of must haves - we leave this Friday for a trip to Bruges and Brussels beforehand so I am having to be organised! My husband has been working away for 2 months and is only back Wednesday! Plus I have to pack for myself and a 7 month old baby who refuses to eat anything apart from homecooked food or pureed fruits. I don't think I will be taking my cooker with me! -Comfy/baggy clothes -Calpol 6+ -Cuppa Soups -Jelly? -The dressings from Lloyds pharmacy - Gillian did u get these I can't remember the name? - A good book the sounds of things for the wait! (But I will probably be first in the queue the size of me!! :hurray:) Can anyone recommend anything else? Thanks in advance x

Freckles - so glad to hear that your operation went well!! I hope you recover quickly especially after all your troubles. I hope your mum gets better too. You look great by the way!! Are you at the Spire? Keep us updated! I have my op a week on Friday, hasn't the time flown! It's a good job as I have been eating like a horse!! Lots of love xxxxx:smile2:

That sounds like my trick! I buy low cal bars/crisps etc and end up having 2 or 3 cos I think they don't count! Can I just ask - I can eat lots can't I on the pre-op diet just no/low fat things? i.e. I can eat lots of bread and stuff if I wanted to just no butter/marg? I am defo not going to lose any weight! But hopefully my liver will shrink!!

Thanks Wishful - that's probably a good idea! I will no doubt be dying to get a fill after the 6 weeks and I am not the most patient person at the best of times!! We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in Bruges and the Campilie (or whatever it's called!) in Brussels. I have booked an extra night after the op so I can have an extra day to recover before travelling back. Do you know Bruges? Any recommendations of places to visit?
  21. SAMMY77

Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Thanks Gillian and Wishful. When I asked the Spire they said I think £259 for the first if needed an extra less if you didn't then £100 after that but I am going to phone back in a bit. I wonder if they vary hospital to hospital. I am happy to keep with Dr Chris as long as I can get the appointments relatively easily. I don't mind booking in advance - I defo think that is best but his secretary wouldn't let me book until after I have been banded so I thought it may have been a battle to book in advance! First morning of pre-op going well! Only because I haven't been in the house!! We are going to Bruges for a few days before op so I will do lots of walking and try to steer clear of the chocolate shops !! I will have a few fillet steaks I think then - no fat on them!!
  22. SAMMY77

Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Gillian - thanks. I have looked at WLS. I live in Berkshire and the nearest place is London. I do work in London sometimes but it'll be hard to match it up with the days Dr Chris is there too and I'll prob not want to go back to work feeling like a pin cushion!! Spire do fills (think that's who Freckles is being re-done by) and there is one closer to me. I phoned then and they said they could do it but it would be best to stick with ur surgeon. I will phone back though if i decide to go down this road as I can't see it'll make a huge difference. She said they would x-ray you to see where the port is so that's fair enough. It would be so much easier for me and cheaper as it's nearly £40 to get into London and I hate the tube so another £25 in taxi's! I will speak to Dr Chris - I am willing to pay the extra to go into London to be filled by Dr CHris (I think he actaully does them or at least visits the London clinic) but I won't be happy if you have difficulty in getting an appointment!! Just finished my last supper by the way! A lovely chinese take-away and I went to McDonalds for lunch for good measure !!

Freckles - I'll be thinking about you today! It'll all be over by the time you read this!! I read the Best article. IT was OK nothing new really new. I thought it was going to shock me!! The only thing that did worry me was it said you have diet of milk and yogurt 2 weeks before! I am not planning on doing that though as Frederik just said low fat. Pre-op diet starts tomorrow so having a blow out chinese tonight! I've got friends over at the weekend so I'll have to be careful. I have bought lots of fruit, yogurt and frozen yogurt to keep me on the straight and narrow!!
