What is the Best tasting Protein Shake
drtoliver replied to texasnewf's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
RTD 51 has 52 grams of whey protein, comes in chocolate, vanilla, mocha, berry blast. it is 240 calories and 2-3 grams of sugar. I get it at the Healthy Life Market section of Drug Emporium. It is a litle pricey (about 3.00 a can) but well worth it with the taste and dietary information. -
15 oz and one serving per contanier. I got it at Drug Emporium - not sure I said that or not.
-
I was turned on to the following drink by a fellow bandster. RTD 51 - Calories - 240; Total Fat 2g; Total Carb 7g, Sugar 2g; Protein 51g. Now this information is for the Frosty Chocolate which taste like a chocolate milkshake when it is cold - and cold is the only way to drink this. I got mine at Drug Emporium and they come in assorted flavors - Peanut Butter Cup, Creamy Vanilla, Mocha Blast (has caffeine); Frosty Chocolate and Berry Blast (have not tried that one yet.). Just thought I would share.

how many cc's for restriction 14cc
drtoliver replied to Alfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am at 10cc in a 14cc Realize Band and think that this fill is a good one for now. I will see my doctor again in two months and we will determine if he needs to tweak me a little. I lost almost 20 pounds between September and January of this year and I am happy with that weight loss. I am actually down quite a bit more but need to change my tracker eventually. -
Christmas Weightloss Challenge
drtoliver replied to Fluffy Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lingra - please don' t be discouraged. You just have to set a new goal and it appears that you already have. And this is through no fault of your own, so keep your head up - we are all here with and for you - as a matter of fact, I personally think that any weight loss - whether it is goal or not should be celebrated!! Even if it is just one pound!! Cause that is one pound we don't have to carry around any longer. My prayers and thoughts are with you!! -

Up and Down - Which way is up or I mean down
drtoliver commented on drtoliver's blog entry in Blog 55398
Love my band - I really do, but wish it were not so fickle. If it does not want me to eat tuna, then that should be how it is everyday, not just sometimes. If I can not eat bread or breading of any kind, then it should be for always. My band needs to make up its mind. Thank you. Which way is down? I have lost weight, but am so tired of exercising that I could scream out loud. It is now winter here and harder to get out and since it is dark at 5:30 p.m. now even harder to walk in the evenings - makes you want to hibernate, but wait - can't do that cause the scale will go up if i do. Which way is up? -

Sweet Spot or possibly too tight - that is the question
drtoliver posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a fill last Friday (September 25, 2009) and now I have 9ccs in a 14cc Realize Band. I have followed the doctor's orders with liquids for two days, mushies for three and then back to regular food BUT. . . . pureed food and anything thicker than tomato Soup is getting stuck and causing sliming and sometimes, well you get the drift. Since I think my band is irritable, I have gone back to liquids for a few days to see if it calms down. So far as long as I don't drink too fast or eat too fast, all is well. Tomato basil soup, carefully chewed cottage cheese, yogurt eaten slowly, tea, crystal light and Water all go down okay, carefully, but okay. Do you all think this is my sweet spot or am I overfilled. I had to wrap my head around the fact that I just can't eat anything solid right now and that is okay, but I don't want it to be this way forever. I don't feel hungry, so that is not a problem. Thoughts, anyone? By the way, I want to thank each and everyone of you for sharing your journeys so freely. It has been in inspiration to me. Thanks, D:redface: -
Sweet Spot or possibly too tight - that is the question
drtoliver replied to drtoliver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the nail was hit on the head in a previous post. We think we should be hungry and we should have food in our mouths. Oh the tragedy!!! I have battled with that feeling for the last three weeks. Thinking, ok, I have not eaten for four hours and it is dinner time, I should eat when in reality I am not even hungry. I guess we all have to re-program our minds (very difficult task and one that I have not mastered at all). I can go 4-6 hours between meals but it certainly does not stop me from "thinking" I am hungry. Bad brain, bad, bad brain - laughing. :cursing: -
Will I Ever See the REAL ME??
drtoliver replied to sweetbean70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you on this one and I have the same question. I was banded 6/10/09 and am down 44 pounds and still wear the same clothes, even though they are getting really baggy and don't look the best. I guess I am too scared to try on anything else in case it may not fit and I will be disappointed and lets face it, sometimes, I guess being fat is comfortable because it is familiar. Not the best thinking, but it is how I think. Need to change it but am not sure how to do that. I understand and feel your pain on this one. Hope someone who has been there and got past it will post something that will help!!!:wink2: -
Sweet Spot or possibly too tight - that is the question
drtoliver replied to drtoliver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have good news. This afternoon, I have been able to keep four bites of turkey chili down, with very little sliming!!!! Go me!! I am still taking it very slowly, maintaining the mostly liquid stage. The only reason I tried again is because my stomach was growling and could not be satisfied with water. I am, however, satisfied with the four bites. I may still be tight as I can feel even water go down, hesitate for a second or two and then continue. I will call the doc after the weekend. Thanks all!!!! -
Horse show was fine, but could have watched it on the internet for about $17 as opposed to the $350 I spent to travel, hotel, food, etc. Sent you a more detailed message a few minutes ago.

Dr. Robert Shin - Everything Went Well!
drtoliver replied to footballmom104's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Congratulations!! I promise you will not regret your decision. I was banded by Dr. Nease in Huntington and really love it so far. Have had two fills so far and the only trouble I have had is getting my head to believe that I am not hungry. Would love to chat. -
For those that think that getting the band or any bariatric surgery is the easy way out, they are sadly mistaken. While your body may cooperate fully, the mind is a different thing. I battle head hunger almost constantly. The more stressed or bored I get, the more I want to eat. Not just little bites, but huge helpings. Thankfully, with the support of my surgeon's office, close friends, this forum, and realize my success, i have been able to stay on track. But it does take will power to say no to a bite of a donut, an extra helping of any food, even the low fat or no fat foods. It does take will power to get out and walk at least twice a day and to take the stairs when possible. So, no this is not the easy way out by any means.

Thanks for the encouragement!! I guess this is a true battle, and one that I am determined to win. I now have to post my weight on the realize site and hopefully my doc is monitoring it. It is not the end of the world, even though it feels that way. Guess I just have to jump back in the game. Thanks again!!!!

After loosing at a steady pace since surgery, for the first week ever, I have gained back 2.5 pounds. Arrghhhh!!!! My first fill was on the 24th of July and he put in 4.5cc in a Realize C band. So I have very little if any restriction. I have an appointment on the 21st of August for another fill, and I want to ask him to be more aggressive this time, but I have a feeling he won't. I am very disappointed in the gain and in my self.:wink2::mad:
-
I gained back 2.5 pounds for the first time since surgery. Part of it is my fault, because I have not been moving as much, drinking water, and I have been eating not so good things. But I also have little if any restriction. First fill of 4.5cc on July 24 and going back on August 21st for another fill. Hope this fill will be more effective and at least get me closer to the "sweet spot". Oh, well, have to keep moving forward. :cursing::thumbup::cursing::eek:

I was banded by Dr. Nease on June 10, 2009. I absolutely love him and his staff!!! They are wonderful. The first fill was not bad either. How have you done so far, if you don't mind sharing. I am down about 29 pounds (47 days out from surgery). If I had to do it all over again, I definitely would!!!:crying:

Had my first fill today at 8:30 a.m. It felt like a bee sting at first and then I did not feel anything at all. My doc (I so love him!!) put in 4.5cc and I am scheduled for another fill next month. I am down 10 pounds since my last visit last month. Off topic, I need to change my ticker and am having problems with putting a new ticker on my signature (forgot the pin number to the orignal one). If someone would tell me how to do this and get this forum to accept the code, I would greatly appreciate it!!!! Happy Friday everyone!!!

I am 35 days post op and up until now have only been able to consume 4-6 oz at a time and have felt comfortable with that amount. Well, that feeling has now gone away and has been replaced with hunger and the feeling of not being satisfied. I have been following all the rules about eating and drinking (or not drinking at the case may be), getting Protein in first, etc. I have even tried to attribute the feeling to "head hunger" and have stepped up my exercise routine (walking). All to no avail. I have a doctor's appointment on July 24th and I hope they will do a fill. I have lost the password to the ticker, so I can't update my status, but I now weight 257.5, so I have had good weight loss. Suggestions anyone?
