Band to Sleeve lose more slowly?

I'm curious about this too. I asked my surgeon about this just the other day. He says that conversions due tend to lose a little less. Looking forward to responses. I'm awaiting approval from ins company.

    Lap band conversion to ?

I had lap band placed in 2009, lost about 40 lbs the first 3 months and ended up pregnant. Gained all the weight back and then some. Tried fills after having my daughter, but nothing really worked. So, I'm now trying to convert to another wls and just so unsure which way to go. I have been researching, youtubing, and reading forums. My dr removed my lap band in May 2015. No issues with reflux, slippage, erosions, etc. I initially decided on the sleeve, but I've read so many issues such as slow or no weight loss due to being a conversion, sleeve revising to bypass, and sleeves starting to have more issues with leaks. I guess I need to stay offline. Bypass is considered the "gold standard", but I'm scared about the rerouting, taking vitamins for the rest of my life, and of course...leaks. So, I guess I need feedback on your experiences and why you chose to convert to bypass or sleeve. Also, anybody with slow weight loss or other issues with sleeve that had conversion done in 1 surgery versus 2 surgeries, I would like to hear your experiences as well.

    Lap band conversion to ?

Thanks for the responses guys! I may be focused too much on losing the weight faster, which is not always a good thing. I'm a little scared of the malabsorption piece as well.

    Lap band conversion to ?

Thanks for responding! Im starting to feel I should have done bypass from the beginning too. Its pros and cons to both, it just what you are willing to deal with. I keep thinking about long term issues, but you can never predict the future. Good luck in your journey. Keep me updated.
  8. I had lap band removal 11 days ago and went through the exact samething. I had to change dresses twice in one day, but the next day it stopped. I also had to place gauze and tape to help with drainage. Let me know how it goes

    Denied

As long as you are the same weight or less than initial weight, you should have been approved. I suggest calling aetna and ask for a case manager. They can give you a better explanation and even get the decision changed. I had a similar issue. They denied me because of the facility and after talking to case manager, she helped me get approved.

    Aetna and Conversion

Hello, I was banded back in 2008 and now considering doing revision to gastric sleeve as well and I have Aetna. The requirements should be the same if you had Aetna for the lap band. I just finished doing my 3 month physician supervised diet, psych eval and nutrition eval. You can always go to Aetna.com to view the Clinical policy bulletin on obesity surgery(http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html) and it will give you all the requirements in detail. I would also contact Aetna customer service just to make sure that your plan does not require you to have this surgery done at an Institute of Quality for Bariatric. That is the problem I am currently running into. The facility I chose is not an IOQ and they denied me for that reason. So, I'm appealing to try to get approved. Hope that helps! Please keep me updated.
  15. Sometimes when lying down on my right side (which is where my port is), my port tends to hurt. But it comes and goes.

    Bandsters in Their 20's

Hello...Im 26 years old and I work as a nurse on the bariatric floor. I was banded on July 20, 2009. My first week was hell!!! The biggest problem I experienced was getting rid of the gas and I started having pains in the left side of my neck, but it eventually went away. I also had pain at the port site, which took about 2 weeks to go away. Im about 1 month post op and have lost about 20 lbs. I can tell the swelling has gone down because Im able to eat more. I am now on a high protein diet, which i will be on for the next few weeks. Occasionally i do get sick (vomit), but thats only when i dont chew my food very well. I'm scheduled to have my first fill on August 27 so we will see how that goes. But I'll have to say the roughest thing for me was the 2 weeks of clear and full liquids. It's hard but I got through it! If you were to ask me if I would do it all over again, I would have to say Hell Yeah! Good Luck!

    W-S Newbie Considering Lap Band

    Hello from greensboro!
  20. The gas usually expereinced immediately after the operation is felt in teh shoulder and sometimes stomach. This gas is the carbon dioxide that was used during the operation to "pump up" the stoamch cavity so the surgeon could more easliy move around our innards. The gas post op + a few weeks is just the stomach getting used to the new type of food, bearing in mind that most fruit juices tend to ferment a little in the tummy and so just give off gas. I would first try a heating pad if this doesnt work try to old remedy of walking more often (this will allow the gas to come down and exit :) Sometimes ice chips are known to cause gas. If you continue to have problems, call your doctor. Hope this helps!!!
