Okay so this evening I was chewing some gum and then for no reason I swallowed my piece of gum!!! Clearly I wasn't thinking but can I do serious damage to my band?? I am 2 weeks post-op to the day and I would hate to hurt myself or my band. Suggestions? Similar experiences?

I just wanted to share with everyone the best protein supplement. It is from a website called egg whites international. I swear it is totally tasteless and way low in carbs and calories. (2g carbs 120 cal 30g protein) You can mix it with salad dressings, sugar free chocolate syrup, any juice, coffee (as long as it's cold) anything. You can mix it with sugar free jello. It is awesome! I know that sometimes it is hard to get in all 60g of protein a day and that those shakes taste gross and get old after a while and this stuff is really great. That's all!!

I was hoping that it was the feeling of restriction. I am just beginning to eat solid foods again and I guess I just went a little crazy. I try to count while chewing and take smaller bites but you're right.... old habits do die hard. I get SO worried that I am going to slip my band or stretch my pouch when I eat anything. I have my first fill in 2 weeks and I wonder if I even need it. Is this always what restriction feels like? Is it common to not need a fill? I guess I will be giving my Dr. an earful when I see him :tt2: Thanks for all the advice!

The best protein supplement
Razz09 replied to Razz09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With the egg whites you control what you add to them. There is nothing extra added into them so you can mix them with anything you want that isn't warm. If you don't want to add extra calories iced coffee is always good. Hope that helps! -
I am no Dr. but that liquid percocet that I took religiously every 4 hours the first 5 days post op were A LOT more damaging on my liver than any glass of wine. I would say that I glass of wine or cocktail here or there would be just fine just don't go out and get wasted. I went out on Valentines night (nearly 3 weeks post op) and had a few glasses of saki (it was the only thing that kept me sane in a sea of delicious and inedible sushi) I had a nice buzz but then stopped and made sure to drink plenty of water. Was a little hungover the next day because I had not had a drink in over a month but otherwise I felt okay. Nothing compared to the after effects of the pain medication. I felt strung out from them for atleast 2 days and I didn't even finish the prescription! everything is okay in moderation! :blushing:

The best protein supplement

Yeah it is in liquid form only. I think that it is the way they pasturize the egg whites. They say you can keep them refridgerated up to 8mos and if opened 3-4mos. They can also be frozen. My Dr. wants me on 60g of extra protein per day and I seem to go through them before they could ever go bad. I usually mix a cup with some sugarfree chocolate syrup or sugar free coffee creamers and enjoy. They are really good. Hope that helps :blushing: -
I was banded yesterday morning by Dr. Kirschenbaum in Colorado. It was a great experience for me. I was totally nervous because I had never had surgery before. The staff was awesome and helped me through my anxiety. I feel some pain but nothing unbearable and I am so excited to start my new life. Anyone else banded yesterday???

I am having some numbness on the left side of my stomach. It is external I can't feel anything when I move my fingers over it. Has anyone else had this sensation?

I have had some back problems as well. I think it is because for last week I have had a really hard time standing up straight and I have not been wearing a bra. Also, I am a side sleeper and have been sleeping on my back for the past week and I always ache when I wake up. As soon as I start moving around and stretching my muscles I feel better. I started sleeping on my side and that also helps.

To Those Banded on 1/27/09
Razz09 replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was banded on the 27th. The first two days were awful. I felt so out if it and my stomach hurt so bad. Today is the first day that I am feeling stronger and hungry. I had to stop taking the liquid percocet because it made me way too emotional. My boyf would look at me and I would start crying! My pain is totally manageable with liquid tylenol. I still have chest pains after I drink which I know is the gas and the area around my port is sore and tight. I started full liquid today and it has really helped with my blood sugar levels. I dont feel so lightheaded all of the time. This sight has really helped me get through this and everyones support is so nice. Keep up the hard work! It gets better with each passing day! -
I am four days post op and I have tightness around my port incision and in my chest is this normal? I am also stopped up haven't had a b.m. since the night before surgery. If anyone can offer insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Razz09 replied to BABYGRACE1213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed to have clear candy so I bought some lifesavers and they are crunchy and you can bite and chew on them. i had surgery yesterday and have horrible gas pains and tightness on my left side. I was told the gasx stuff doesnt work. Has anyone had success with the strips? Its a little hard to walk around at first because of the tightness on my left side. Has anyone experienced this -
I am wondering hoe alcohol is tolerated after the la band surgery. I'm not a lush but I do enjoy going out and have drinks with friends. I know that alcohol has many empty calories but other than that ha anyone had any complications with alcohol and the lapband?

Thanks sooo much! I love this site because everyone is so helpful. I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and I will talk to my Dr. about coverage. Maybe he offers an extended care package especially because I am self pay. I just hope that it stops snowing

I am being banded on Jan 27th and I am beginning to feel a little nervous and second guessing my decision. I know this is totally normal and that I need to stay positive but I can't help but be a little apprehensive. I mean this band will be with me FOREVER! Any suggestions to get through the anxiety? Also, I am self pay and I am wondering about having the surgery itself insured in case something goes wrong in the next 60 years. Is this even available? I just see that many people have had some complications and I am just wondering what this surgery will cost in the long run. Thanks!

My operation day s set for Jan 27th and I couldn't be more excited. I have told very few people about my surgery and I cannot help but feel a little embarrassed about people finding out. I live in a very small community and I can already feel people judging me. Has anyone else felt this way? If so what you suggest is a good way to get over what other people think? Also hoping for some advice for the first few weeks after surgery??

I am being banded on Tuesday and am on my pre-op diet and doing well. I am having a social dinner with girlfriends tomorrow and would like to have a few cocktails. I can choose low carb alcoholic drinks but am concerned about my liver and the Dr. not being able to preform the surgery. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

Starting my Pre-Op Diet Today...
Razz09 replied to jorofan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried the protein powders and blended them with ice and the special k waters or crystal light. Pretty good because you can barely taste the powder and they kinda taste like a diet slushy. I also bought a healthy liver tea. This does not taste good but says it promotes healthy liver function. I am trying to stay faithful to my pre-op diet because the last thing I want is to have my surgery postponed. My Dr. has me on low carbs so it has been fairly easy because I can still eat some of the things I love. -
Thank you! I know that I shouldn't care what people think but some reason it's always in the back of my mind.
