  1. Kelli,

So glad to hear you are doing good! After my 1 wk post-op my doctor told me to start on regular foods. So, I did but ate a lot of mashed potatoes and soft stuff and finished up some baby food fruits I had bought for the pureed part. So far, so good. I have only lost 1.5 pounds since then. I haven't started exercising yet but am going to this weekend - treadmill. That will speed up the loss greatly for me. Keep me posted...Laura

  2. Hi Kelli,

I'm Laura. I was banded on 2/13/09. Your pics are great! How are you doing now that you are 4-5 weeks post-op? Friday will be my 3rd week post-op and I am feeling much better with each day! My first fill is on 3/19 and I am nervous about it. How about you? LB

  3. Hi Shelley,

How are you feeling today. Hopefully much better. It seems like each day you start to feel better. I had a good day today. I know it's only been 2 weeks, but my incisions are pretty much healed and I don't feel so bloated. It seems like I am waiting to eat when my stomach is growling. I don't really get hungry between meals either. I have lost 2 pounds since last week. Today, my jeans finally look really baggy! Yeah! I don't really know what size to try on....we'll see. Let me know how you are today. Thinking of you, Laura

  4. They are just adorable. How old are they in the photos? We just bought a new chicuaha. She is 12 weeks old and her name is Juicy. She so sweet. She has a big brother named Bradley. He's 19 months old and is a long hair chi. They are getting along good so far...take care of your new babies!

  5. Shelley,

    Congratulations - you've been banded!!!!

    Laura

  6. Cont'd...I go to the doctor on 3/19 for my first fill. I have been planning my meals and using RealizeSuccess on-line. I have felt when eat something that gets a little stuck like chicken and then this evening a boiled egg. I guess I ate it too fast and didn't chew well enough. I'll do better next time. Anyway, closing for now. Get your rest and take care! Talk with you later...Laura

  7. Shelley, Nice to hear from you! Sounds like you are off to a speedy recovery! Just keep on track with your pain meds and move/walk around to help with gas pain. I used Gax-X strips and heating pad. I know you are happy they fixed your hernia while installing your lap band. Less times you have to have anesthesia...

  8. Hi Shelley, Just checking on you to see how you are feeling! Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery! Keep in touch, Laura

  9. Gretchen,

My gas pains pretty much truly went away after about 5-7 days. They progressively get less and less each day. I used the Gas-X strips and heating pad! I know you are uncomfortable right now but it will wear off and get better for you! How are you today? Laura

  10. Gretchen,

We haven't met, but just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you this morning! Good luck!

I was banded 2/13/09 and doing great! Laura

  14. My eating problems before my surgery were eating too much and too often. Sometimes I would eat until I made myself sick. Also, emotional and boredom eating. Things are better now...I want to be healthy and thinner.

I better close for now....please keep me posted with your recovery. Just think about how much healthier you are going to be in a few days/weeks/months...its worth it. I am glad that I decided to have the lap-band! Take care, Laura

  15. Anyway, enough about me...are you spending the night at hospital after surgery? I am glad I did because it seems like you have extra time to get a grasp on what you've just gone thru! Sometimes I thought that after the surgery I would only be able to drink fluids in small amounts forever and ever, but that is not the case! You do get back to eating normal foods like you did before just a smaller portion.

  16. Since my surgery a couple of things have changed for the better - last night was the first night I had to use my CPAP while sleeping since surgery, my blood pressure is actually perfect or right below normal, and I can walk up and down the stairs at work (my office is on 2nd floor and we do not have an elevator) without my knees hurting and without being out of breath when at top or bottom of stairs!

  17. I have only told my husband, mom, sister-in-law and brother...and of course my 2 children (17 and 23). They are all very supportive. My mom was concerned at first but after my husband and I talked to her and showed her some materials/pics she felt better and cheered me on! Everyone said to me that I wasn't big enough either, but they know that I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, beginning stages of diabetes, degenerative joint disease in knees and just not feeling like myself.

  18. I felt so much better that I took my daughter to the mall for shopping. We even walked in thru the food court and I had no desire for any of it! It was nice. Oh, I did splurge on an unsweet tea with splenda from Chick-fil-A. They make the best tea...

  19. I had a very good day at work today. It seems like with everyday you feel better. I think that yesterday I ate too much and also was very bloated and gassy. I contribute it to sitting at my desk, wearing pantyhose and an underwire bra. Today I went pantyhoseless, regular bra with no wire and did not eat more than I was supposed to..

  20. Shelley, Good luck tomorrow! I will say a prayer for you. Everything will be just fine. Are you sure I am not boring you with meaningless details/information? Sometimes I think it sounds like it to me, but they are the little details that the doctors and nurses don't mention! cont'd

  21. Hi Shannon,

I was banded on 2/13/09 in Jacksonville. Recovery is going good.

    Laura

  22. Hi, Go Gators!!!

How are you today? Have you been banded yet?

I was just banded on 2/13/09 and recovery is going well. Who is your surgeon?

    Laura

  23. Hi Julie, How are you doing with your new lap-band? I had my surgery 2/13 and feeling a lot better these past 2 days. It seems like the 5th day was the "oh, I will survive now!" I wanted to mention that I have been using Gas-X meling strips and they seemed to help. I have been trying to be careful about what I have been eating so not to eat things that are gassy. I really miss drinking from a straw and salads! Can't wait to have a salad and dressing.

How did your post-op visit go? Keep me posted on your progress...Laura

  24. I return to work tomorrow after being out since surgery. I did not tell my boss or anyone at the office about my surgery. I just told them that I was having a procedure done. Not sure how I am going to handle it tomorrow. I guess I'll have to think about it tonight so I can be prepared.

Shelley, if I don't talk to you before Wednesday morning - Good luck and I will be praying for you! Just think about the new journey that you are starting for the rest of your life! You have been so encouraging for me! Thank you and talk with you later! Laura

  25. Back to your questions - my port is on my right side between breast bone and belly button. I am still sore and have to remember not to bend certain ways. I usually sleep on left side too. Now its hard because the lap band is on the left side with stomach...its uncomfortable when rolling over and putting pressure on it. continued...
