i am ten weeks out and "only" lost 39 lbs. do yourself a favor and don't compare yourself to others. there are so many variables! compare your loss to how you were before surgery...how long it would take you to lose "x" amount of weight. you were so brave to get this done and are on a journey to weight loss and health. wait six months before you asses things..lol. you are doing great!

Poached egg week 1 post opp?
Lacey09 replied to PissiChrissi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow. programs really are different! we had 2 weeks of 12 oz of Protein shake divided into 3 meals. i had a "head" craving for a tuna melt...lol and a lot of emptiness/new form of hunger for a month until i could satiate with real food. i feel you really need to "respect the sleeve" and remember that your stomach was cut and sewn back up. it desperately needs time to heal! when you eat foods to early it ends up feeling very uncomfortable. in my support group people talk of foaming back up to their mouth when they did that (called the foamies) just hang in there it gets easier!!!! -
im seven weeks out. i was told that its important to let the insicions "breathe." No ointments, lotions or dressings. i felt best when they were with non tight clothing over them.
-
i was told by my docs office that if the swelling of your actual sleeve goes down fast, which they think mine did, can make liquids and soft food go thru fast. some patients that have longer sleeve swelling can bearly get Water down. but everyone heals at their own speed. and my sugar craving is gone like your chocolate craving. i think its cause we went thru "detox" before and after surgery and got all that out of our system so the cravings go way down. plus the hormones produced by the missing stomach that cause cravings are gone. keep hanging in there!

i am six weeks out and before i was allowed real food i definitely had hunger!! i was told that if your swelling goes down fast the liquids and soft foods go through fast. Just hang in there. the real food, 3 oz of Protein like chicken takes a long time to eat and keeps you full for a while. you are not alone!

i am a month out and that is exactly when i have pain, lessoning every week. the sitting in one place for too long kinda caught me off gaurd. plus wearing jeans/belt made it worse. they did stick a lot of instruments into our incisions and move around so im sure our ligaments, ect. will be sore for a while.

Lower arm/wrist/hand pain
Lacey09 replied to csawesome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
give your doc a call and run it by him/her. i have never heard of gas pain in that area and you have such intense pain and mild fever. call today. -
i was sleeved on feb 25. your feelings are normal. i compare it to when you are about to have a baby. despite waiting so long for the time to finally come and doing a lot of "prep" you feel "help i am not ready how will i know how to take care of a baby?" you know what? you just do it. after the labor/surgery is over its such a relief that you just live each day. take one week at a time. dont be afraid to call surgeons office after to talk to PA or NUT or whoever. good luck.

i was sleeved feb 25. after two rough days in the hospital (nausea from anesthesia, gas pain) i came home and didnt even need tylenol. after hearing stories of people taking hours to drink 2 oz of Water i did really well drinking fluids and Protein powder. my doc said i was healing well and swelling went down fast. i did feel weakness and emptiness from drinking only Protein shakes for two weeks but NUT said add one fruit once a day. yes it will get better. and if u have a more difficult recovery call your doc they have advice to make u feel better -
i am two weeks out and have had no hair loss. i wouldnt take biotin before surgery. it mostly helps after month three. i learned in my pre=surgery classes and support groups that in the first three months when u are losing A LOT the fat cells that are burned release stored hormones which can cause temporary hair loss (it grows back) my nut said biotin wont help that. but after three months it can help that issue. the huge benifits to our lives will make these little inconveniences (thats how i choose to look at them) fade in their impact. no mud no lotus, right?

i was sleeved the 25th. i happened to heal, reduce swelling very fast and have been loosing a pound a day. but because liquids go thru so fast i have dealt with a new kind of hunger/emptiness issues. docs staff has been helping me but its just like when your kid starts to read. you hear others reading much earlier than yours and get freaked but you know what? it doesnt matter in the end. slow and steady wins the race. this will mean nothing in six months. pat your self on the back for getting sleeved. you are a warrior!!!!

GP says to do Weight Watchers instead
Lacey09 replied to careya123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
i am on 2 blood pressure meds and my psychologist who i have known for years totally encouraged me. he told me that i was a ticking time bomb ( not in a mean way) and wrote that letter on new years eve day for me right when i gave him the stuff. he called a week after the surgery to say congrats and how happy he was for me. oh, and my internist was very supportive. he has seen me come to him with different weight loss ideas and have to raise my blood pressure med. even dr. oz said its the most underused surgery in the US. i am a single mom of teens and cant wait for a long life watching their lives and meeting my grandkids in the future. i feel so lucky to get sleeved. i tried everything else for ten years. -
6 weeks post op I want to be down more
Lacey09 replied to KLEE12216's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hey. first off think of what a great job u have done so far!!!! Try taking water bottles everywhere. have them wherever u r like where u r working, folding laundry, doing bills, on the computer, driving,....move it around with u. think of things u can add to it if u hate plain water. go with your favorite flavors to entice u. i have delved into tea. check out the aisle. there are so many options! with your food mix it up! google bariatric meals and find cool high protein recipies that will incorporate vegies. u will get stuck in a rut if u have the same old things. if u go to a support group ask around. people at mine have great food ideas. well, i am a newbie but i hope that helps. oh, sugar free ice pops can help your fluid intake. -
in my pre surgery NUT class they said rice is not a good choice for sleeves as it expands in the stomach. its not that you CANT eat it but it will get in the way of getting all your protein and fruits/veggies in. there isnt classic dumping for sleeves i was taught. i was told that if you eat sugar and fats it will reach your intestines faster than it used to due to the smaller stomach and you will feel various forms of discomfort but not as extreme as gastric bypass dumping. hope this helps i am still a newbie

Week 1 - Am I drinking too much too fast?
Lacey09 replied to newmeme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i am 11 days out and i have been able to drink clear liquids (esp warm) and my protein fairly fast too. i just listen to my body. i can feel if i need to take a break. i have heard that liquids really cant stretch your sleeve by themselves unless maybe you chugged a bottle of water which wouldnt be physically possible. i feel we are lucky that we can get our fluids and protein down as some people have issues at the beginning and even have to go back on IV s. i feel the warm tea and broth is soothing. i just practice putting the mug down for little bits cause i know that s what we have to do with eating real food. its like a whole new way of eating. putting down your fork, etc. i am nervous but up for the challenge. -
i called my NUT at 11 days out and said i felt like i was in a coma and hungry. (still on 12 oz shakes a day total) she said if u heal fast and the swelling goes down the shake and Clear liquids go thru u faster and u can feel hungry. also, some people are very sensitive to the lack of carbs. she said to add one serving fruits (like half a cup berries or half a banana to your shake for the day (in the blender w the fruit then split it up during the day) it helped bring back some energy.

i just got cleared for coffee!!!!! 11 days out and doing great with my fluids so they said yes. i feel like i won the lottery. just a cup will feel like heaven!!!!
-
i am 11 days out. dont be scared. any discomfort in the hospital they have meds for. i came home and didnt even need tylenol! been losing a pound a day. we'll save room for you on the losers bench!!!!! congrats...its your birthday to your new healthy life!!!!!!

Lacey09 replied to thomas1984's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im a week out. be careful. my doc has us on 2 weeks just protein shakes (only 12 oz a day) and clear fluids. the sleeve is barely healed and needs to be babied. good luck with your recovery! -
