baylee9866 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
BandDiva, I am with you... banded 1/13 the weight loss has stopped and I am starving I go for a fill on the 12th of Feb. In everythig I read it says until your first fill and the first 3-6 weeks after surgery you are still healing and your weight loss should plataeu!! I know it does not feel good, but we will make it !! Congrats on everyone who was newly banded, and to ?? going in tomorow leaving at 4 a.m. you will do great, and I have you in my thoughts  -
Who's getting banded on January 13th?
baylee9866 replied to adamsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Cherbear, good luck going to the Dr. tomorow.. You are getting what we have right now. I got my daughter on the bus at 6:30 a.m. light flurries, got my son on at 8:30 we already had 2 inches, now they are closing 3 hours early and saying if you want to pick up your child they will not count it against them  The snow is really coming down, and we live in Calvert County...(40 min from D.C and Annapolis) lots of turns and hills so my husband is on his way home and we are heading out to get the kids. I am sure you will be fine if they gave you an antibiotic, but I am like you I would want to be seen to be sure :-) AFTER all of this, is better to be safe then sorry. I commend you for even putting a bra on, I do not know how you walked all day my incision which must be were your is as it rubbed off is right in the lower band of my bra... NO WAY I did eat eggs for breakfast.. BUT I AM STILL hungry, I need a fill bad. I think I could eat my arm if I put syrup on it. It is so funny as I was not hungry at all until the past 3 or 4 days and wow my appetite has really kicked in, I guess that means a lot of the swelling must be down which is good.. I GUESS. Well, hope everyone has a great day, and Cherbear keep us updated! -

Hi Cherbear, sorry to hear about your sore. I have not put a bra on yet, it hurt to bad as the location of the incision stinks in relation to a bra. BUT it has been so cold here in MD I have been able to wear a sweatshirt so no one has really noticed :-) I to get to have mushies tomorow, I HOPE they fill me up! I am starivng, I can drink a whole shake and still eat soup and still feel hungry... I cant wait for my first fill on the 12th, but then I am afraid of the whole stuck feeling everyone talks about. BUT I guess I will live and learn right. -

Hi everyone, well it sounds like we are all doing great and almost to the mushies (wohoo) for those of us that are still on liquids.... 1 day left. I can not wait, I made a boiled dinner last night and i am ready to eat it for breakfast (all but the ham... but boy do the veggies tast good after being cooked with it) Andylou, The pain is around my largest incision so I think that is my port?? I gues I will find out when I go for my fill on the 12th. It is weird (do not mean to gross anyone out) I started my monthly cycle and that is when the pain came back?? Has anyone else had this happen?? It is almost like the whole area around the large incision around to my lower back HURTS when I cough etc. THE Hurt you had when you first left the hospital and sneezed... It is really weird because I was feeling 99% better in relations to that until my friend arrived. I also read that UNTIL the first fill after we go on mushies we are not to focus on weight loss as we may not loss anything our main goal is recovery so I guess we are all doing good even though we are plateauing .... YES I bought the Weight loss surgery for Dummies book and the Lap Band companion guide.. DO NOT LAUGH! My Dr. is over an hour away and I plan on attending 1 support meeting a month as I did pre-op but it is hard they are so late, that I resorted to books to help answer a lot of my questions. Hope everyone has a great day! -

baylee9866 replied to adamsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys... is ANYONE experiencing pain in there side like bad pains to where they feel like they have to hold it when they cough etc. I had this pain in the beginning and then it went awauy... now it is back and it feels like it did in the beginning?? I am starting to wonder if I picked something up etc. I can no longer laugh, sneeze etc. I think our weight has slowed down because maybe we are not eating enough calories.. I know we should be aroung 800-1000 (according to my nutrionist) and I have not really been getting that in everyday. I am hoping once I go to mushies that will help. -

Hey guys... I am right there with you all, down 1lb in 2 days :scared2: But a total of 8 since surgery so that is good! I am still having pains in my shoulder that tends to come and go. I went out to dinner tonight and not sure if I ate my soup to fast and that caused the pain to come back?? But yes I do notice it comes when I am maybe in an uncomfortable enviroment?? ** Hopefully in the summer when we take another poll on the weight loss we will all be able to add a 5 or 6 in FRONT of our single digit -

O.K. I am going to the store tonight to get some bullets:-) I need to get about 10 sometimes 15 more grams of protein in and this may be just what the Dr. ordered! Adamsmom, I am so glad that you are doing so good! I am actually going out to dinner tonight!! I am so excited, YES I am still on liquids not even to mushies yet so I can only order soup but I think it will be a learning experience. I can not wait until my 1st fill (2/12) I am really starting to get hungry over here, anyone else having that problem :scared2: -

Hi Ronda, I am feeling o.k. not to much energy either! All I can think about is food :tt2:, my kids and husband can eat anything and you are right about having to cook. I would give my left arm for a salad right now.. it is funny how you learn to appreciate the foods that were always thought of as a side or starter dish. I LOVE veggies, I actually am making a boiled dinner for Sunday and will eat the left overs on Tues. I love the way the veggies taste aftering being cooked with ham YUMMMM. WE will make it. Look how far we have already come. How is your exercising coming?? I have no motivation to get up and walk. I have an elliptical in my bedroom and I am embaressed to say that I have NOT stepped on it once. I am hoping once I get food in me I will find a new me and will get moving! -
Cleo's mom, please keep us updated on your progress! I was banded on 1/13/09 and am having very bad pains ONLY in my left shoulder, my Dr. told me it was gas but nothing takes it away... it is a very painful thing and I wish you the BEST.

Hi guys, I was banded on 1/13 :tt2: Does anyone feel port discomfort when they are sitting up?? I know the sharp pains when I get up are the muscles that are sewn but I almost feel the port while I am sitting, it is just a little annoying... did anyone else have this and please tell me it goes away... I feel like an alien. I get to move to mushies on Tues. 1/27 AND I get my first fill on 2/13.. I am so excited and hoping this will give me some restictions as I am STARVING. Starting weight 236/214 current :crying: -
Total confused the more I read!!!
baylee9866 replied to SoonToBeTheRealMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am with you! I was banded on 1/13 and EVERYONE on this site has a different diet. I went for my post op on 1/19 and my Dr. said there is no set standard... I asked why some people can eat after 1 week etc. I am/was on liquids 2 weeks prior, 2 weeks after... I get mushies on 1/27 I can NOT wait. He let me know that every Dr. has found that different things work for different people, he has put in place standard rules for everyone no matter how much they have to loose etc. and the diet restrictions are the same for both bands.. so in other words, it is not customized for each person just set rules he has in place that he thinks is best. BUT you know what they say EVERYONE has an opinion :crying: DO what your doctor suggests, he would not jepordize your health or your band... AND you are doing GREAT, you should be VERY proud. You have come a long way and your weight loss if through the roof :tt2: Do not doubt yourself or your doctor, and be thankful that you are not in LIQUID HELL (hehe) I am jealous. -
Jan 20 surgery-lots of gas and pain!
baylee9866 replied to nvr2late's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 1/13 STILL have pains in my shoulders on and off. BE sure to take you gas x strips 2 at a time EVERY 4 hours! Also alternate putting a heating pad on your upper back and chest while you are sitting watching t.v etc. it will help it pass as I think it must relax you... feels a lot better :tt2: GOOD LUCK -

Tweety, do you like the bullets?? I have not tried them yet... I have tried everything else I THINK  And yes you can only absorb so much protein at a time, if I use a higher protein powder I only make 1/2 the serving as they say (my nutrionist) you can only count 20 grams per serving no matter how many it says it has. I guess it is kinda like vitamins. -

I would just like to say that sooo many of you are so motivating!! I have not told everyone ONLY my husband and my mother-in-law (I needed her to watch the kids) I have been thinking about this all day. I am not sure if it is because I am so embaressed with myself that I have failed yet again that I just do not want to talk about it or if I just do not want to hear everyone's opinions... I reached my goal weight of 140 about 2 years ago via weigt watchers loosing about 110lbs... and YES I have gained it ALL back. I envy you guys for not worrying about what other people think.. I work in a fitness center and see "skinny" people all day long and have no desire to hear there input. I am SURE that everyone will figure it out eventually... I am hoping to do very well can you tell?? But I figure when I am done if someone asks, I will be honest BUT I do not feel the need to volunteer the info. -

baylee9866 replied to adamsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning Adamsmom, glad to hear that you are doing well and are back at work !I have not returned to work yet as believe it or not I work at a fitness center and NO ONE there knows anything about my surgery!! I do the billing, books etc. so I have been taking my work with me and doing it at home. I am REALLy nervous about sitting in the office with all the "skinny women" as they have JUNK food all day long, very tempting.. and I say skinny instead of healthy as they are little chimmeys with fast food  Is is so funny how you talk about school.... there are a few teachers in my sons school who I know were banded and you are right, when I went in this a.m. they all have a shake or bar etc. and everyone else has coffee.... I never noticed this before. I guess it is a sign of the times. TOTALLY off the subject.. took my little Chihuahua to the vet yesterday and they did an x-ray to confirm she is expecting... we can see 5 skeletons.. and she is due in about 20 days AHHHHHHH To many little ones in the middle of a Maryland winter  I hope everyone has a GREAT day ! -
Four weeks total.. Sorry 2 weeks before and now 2 weeks after. this is the pits. Has anyone eaten grits on mushies or have you heard of any problems?? Just curious as my list says warm cereal... Oatmeal seams to be thick as well. I go and see my Nutrionist again on Thurs. (next week) but really wanted a few things on hand for Tues. As you can see I am actually counting down.. this is very scary, makes me feel like I am in withdrawl I think I am addicted to chewing:lol:
-
 Hello everyone, I am newly banded 1/13/09 and looking for help! I am STILL on the liquids and get to eat soft food after 4 weeks (Tues.) YEAH. I was wondering if grits are considered soft food?? Really I am making my grocery list so that I can go to the store this weekend and ACTUALLY put something in my cabinet for me and not the kids and hubby! ALSO I get my fist fill on 2/12 and I was reading on other threads that after a fill you really should have ONLY liquids for a few days? Sorry if I am at the wrong spot... I am new to this and NEED a lot of HELP  AND I am So HUNGRY! AND SICK OF LIQUIDS AHHHHHHH

Anyone getting banded in January
baylee9866 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Aquilla, sorry to hear about the gas! I was just banded 1/13 and I will say it lasted about 4-5 days for me of intense pain. Do you have the meltaway gas x strips, those seem to be more fast acting, also I was told I could take zantac and place a heating pad on my upper back and shoulders laying on my one side (opposite of your port) My Dr. said the tubing can sometimes rise and irritate your (something on the inside up by your breast bone i think) and that feels like pressure as well but that will go away to. Take 2 gas strips every 4 hours do not let it wear off as it is hard to get it under control again. Are you taking the fast acting liquid tylenol?? The narcotics will bind you up even more, if you can take that at night and the tylenol during the day to get your system going (if you know what I mean) Hope something in here helps  -

FAT FREE...... I want French Fries  I know, it is all in my head. I have two kids and a husband who can eat anything and I am with you, no fries in the house.. that is my downfall ! I just keep telling myself I can make it one more week on liquids. I am hoping once I get food in my body my stomache will not be so messed up from all of this liquid Protein?? Does anyone out there have a glimmer of hope for me, are you guys having tummy issues when you are eating mushies?? -

I need to go to GNC now and get a smaller drink as these shakes are 8 oz and it is way to much for one sitting:-) Cherbear thanks for your thoughts on the tomato soup, I think it should be o.k. to NEXT WEEK:thumbup: O.K. Tweety I am reading your reply about your dinner what is the FF I am thinking French Fry.. if it is you are NO longer allowed to talk I AM STARVING I want some cheese and Beans  You have me thinking, are French Fries smooshie can I eat that next week.. it is weird what 3 weeks of all liquids can do to your mind! But seriously I think it is great that you and your husband are doing so well, and that you have partner that is actually taking this journey with you.... my husband and kids are hiding from me as all I want to do is smell there food.. they think I am CRAZY:eek: -

Welcome Nikki:smile: Quick question for those of you who are farther along on there diet.. when they say mushies like mashed potatos etc. has anyone eaten grits? I see in my handbook it says warm Cereal so I was just curious. I do my weekly grocery shopping on Thurs. so I am EXCITED to buy something for next week! O.K. Have to ask as I am TOOO Jealous. Everyone keeps saying that there on liquids that they can drink through a straw, are you allowed to have tomato or creamy Soups? Just need to know so that I will have something to dream about tonight  -

Andylou, my Dr. said the same about lifting. 10lbs max the first 30 days then 20lbs max next 30 days then after 60 days resume lifting as usual. Do you have any sharp pains when you go to get out of bed or cough/sneeze?? My Dr. said this is where my port it.. I am such a baby I would not even touch to feel it under my skin. I was wondering about the whole fill thing, I thought maybe I heard wrong when they said no food for 48 hours, so much for going out for Valentine's day :wink2: -

:thumbdown:o.k. so I had my fisrt post-opt apt. yesterday and I wanted to kick my Dr. in the knees!! GOOD news, everything looks good and I am down 10lbs since surgery BUT he will not let me eat anything for another week! Said I must be 2 weeks out BEFORE I can even have a cream based soup! I really might loose my mind. I can have protein drinks, clear broths, jello and popsicles yeah me :wink2: On the up side only 1 week left of the 4 in this misery and then I get to add eggs, cheese and soft seafood. THEY did say I can add even more on the 13th of Feb. wich is great but then they scheduled my first fill for the 12th! She said for the 1st 2 days AFTER a fill I may need to go back on liquids to let my tummy settle, has anyone else heard of this?? -
Anyone getting banded in January
baylee9866 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Blackqueen, I was banded on Jan. 13th and the pre-op diet of liquids for 2 weeks ALMOST killed me I made it through by changing things up. I bought tons of the campbells select soup (lower sdium) and just drained the juice out... it gave me a variety, the Italian Wedding was and still is my favorite. I am still on liquids I have 2 weeks post op.. 1 week left THANK god, I never thought I would want to eat mushie food!! I go out for dinner every night (smoothie king) low carb strawberry is the only one I am allowed to get but it is nice as they make it in the blender with ice etc. kinda like a milkshake.. it come in chocolate and vanilla to. ANOTHER good option is going to safeway soup bar and just scooping out the juice.. they always have something different and a good varitey. (won ton soup is good for chinese) :wink5: I will not lie, I cheated pre-op.. I am the one if you go back freaking out about my liver (hehe) but all went great, and I have not cheated since. I go to the Dr. today so maybe he will le me eat eraly? I know not likely!
