I noticed someone here mentioned the fentanyl pain patches. I was on them for awhile for my fibromyalgia and my father was on them also. They helped me enormously, but they were not enough to help my father. The are last 72 hours (3 days). They are as addictive as anyother heavy narcotic out there. So if your father is worried about addiction and heavy narcotics I would not suggest them, just from personal experience and from my own fathers experience. I attended Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston which is also a pain clinic as an out patient. My father attended as an in patient. If you cannot get them covered by insurance they are exremely expensive. I heard somewhere around $30,000. They told me to stay away from the fentanyl patches. There have been recent deaths due to them and overdoeses because they are so potent. But I guess many other heavy narcotics are too. HTH some!

I had a question for all of you that had the band removed and opted for another form of WLS. If the band failed, but you had lost a significant amount of weight and your BMI was considered normal, did your insurance cover the new procedure? I was banded March 7 of this year. I am so happy that I did it and I have not had any problems. I am also aware that complications that lead to bad removal are rare. But I am the type of person that likes to know stuff "just in case" I know that if we get our bands removed and opt not to get a revision that we will most likely, if not definatly, gain all of the weight back. Thank you for your responses in advance!

How long as your father been on narcotics? My father is permanently disable due to a neck injury. He has a metal plate in him also. He has been on every kind of narcotic you could think of...oxycontin, morphine, methadone...all at such high doeses that the doctors are afraid to even prescribe them. He has been on heavy narcotics for 6 years now. He cannot function on his own. His doctors have told him that the narcotics are actually turning on him and making his pain worse because he has been on them so long. He has to come off of them eventually. Maybe your fathers pain medications have turned on him also. My mother was researching and there is supposedly a non-narcotic pain medication that is 10 times more effective than morphine. It is only available through a pain pump though. Maybe this could be an option for him. I do not know the specifics of it. HTH! I know chronic pain can be a horrible thing. I suffer from a severe case of fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed at 20. Unfortunatly since I am so young I do not have many options. I hope your father can find some relief!

I love the tanning beds! I know they are bad but they are so relaxing. I prefer them to sitting on the beach all day. 10 minutes and you are done. The beds are no more dangerous than the sun. One session in a tanning both is equivalent to sitting out in the sun all day. I feel like I look healthier with a tan. I limit myself to the summer months. When I go tanning I dont worry about buring from being outside all day. I love my fake bake beds!
