  1. Hey Everyone, Well I was banded on Thursday, April 4, which makes me 1 week post-op today. The surgery was pretty uneventful except for a sizable haital hernia that my doctor promptly repaired once he discovered it. The whole surgery may have taken 45 minutes according to my husband. I dont think I would have had any discomfort at all if it had not been for the haital hernia repair. I had the worst neck and shoulder pain, not to mention what seemed like air under my diaphram. At times I could not even take a deep breath. I had to call my surgeon for a refill on my pain medicine it was so bad. Anyway, I start soft foods on tomorrow and hope that goes well. I already have pretty good restriction now, so I plan to take it slow. I don't know abot anyone else, but I did feel hungry a couple of days after surgery, although it didnt take very much to fill me up I still got hungry. One thing I am starting to realize now that I have had the band for a week is that this is not going to be easy and its going to take the same level of committment required by any other plan, maybe even more. Not that I thought it would be effortless, but the more and I read about this thing I realize that is us not or bands that is the key to success! I wish everyone the best on their journey.:sneaky:
  2. Hello everyone, I just found out that the wait is over! I got approved through Tricare for the Lap Band and my surgery is scheduled for April 9th. My surgeon will be Dr. Cywes with Jacksonville Weight Loss in Jacksonville, Florida. I am so excited. When I think of all the hoops I had to jump through and lectures I had to sit through..,OMG! I did everything thing my doctor told me too do though and even a few extra things like obtaining letters of medical neccesity from my doctors and even writing a personal letter. I still cant believe it!!! Limited and Ann Taylor here I come!!:scared2:

  4. Hello, I'm from Jacksonville, Florida and am just starting my LapBand journey, I will be using Tricare South as my insurance carrier. I have already obtained my referrel from my PCM, she even wrote me a letter of medical necessity! I know this really doesn't mean anything, but every little bit counts right?? I will be attending the free seminar on this Thursday, so that I can already have it out of the way. I really want this process to go as quickly and as smoothly as possible, I hope to be banded by March 2009. My prayers are with you all. I wish everyone much happiness and success!

    Hello Everyone!

Well, I must say the seminar was very informative. There was this guy who had the surgery performed that morning and was there at the seminar to answer any questions we had and even let us see his laparoscopic incisions. Dr. Baptista was the surgeon hosting the seminar: I was very impressed with his confidence and humor. I went to the seminar held at Baptist hospital here in Jacksonville, although just as informative, I didn't feel the connection with the staff like I did with the folks at Jacksconville Weightloss Center. I am using Tricare and I don't know if my BMI is high enough (37.5) even with a co-morbidity. I am going to try anyway. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I will not stop until every door is closed, and then I might have to break out a window!!!
