Well, if it starts singing Sir mix-a-lot (I like big butts and I cannot lie) I will know for sure:tongue: LOL!! Wouldn't that be absolutely funny if you could rig the thing to play that song every time you get on it?! That would be AWESOME!! LOL

Will MY LB help my teenage daughter?
spud.mama replied to spud.mama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all for your replies. She came home from school today, unknowing of my post, and asked me to help her lose weight. Maybe my frustration is that I don't know how! I'm learning myself, and trying to get myself motivated to exercise. It will all work out (or she'll have the LB in 10 years if she wants). Thanks again. Spud :w00t: -
Will MY LB help my teenage daughter?
spud.mama replied to spud.mama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you! I appreciate your responses. I am hoping that my eating better will help my kids as well. I know it's a touchy thing with a teenager, equally as hard that we learn what we live (hard when it's not healthy). Hopefully it's not too late to change that 'learn what we live' from being 'hard' to being 'great' for my daughter. She does seem to have a good self-esteem, and we have had some heart to hearts about weight loss and exercise. My thought it taking her with me to my dietitian appointments. Maybe she will learn some through that. Thanks, Spud:smile: -
OR, maybe I should be thanking it for reminding me to get up and move my bootie more (which I have been doing). But...that wouldnt be as funny. Maybe it likes your bootie and refuses to admit defeat. LOL :tt1:

LOL! Do we need some scale to human positive reinforcement?? Maybe we should put a sign by the scale that says, "I love my scale. The scale is the only thing that is truly honest with me (unless we change the settings lol), good and bad. The scale is my friend." LOL :hurray: Maybe it's upset cuz it doesn't have a name. I named my band when I get cuz we will have a relationship for a very long time. I never thought about the relationship we have with the scale. Humm...I may have to think about that. I know I'm a little 'OFF', but as long as I laugh it counteracts my lack of exercise. :hurray: Will you write a love note to your scale when it does tell you what you want to hear? lol Good luck with that one. :hurray: Spud Mama :hurray:

1 week post op..and i am confused
spud.mama replied to iwalktheline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not banded yet, but just assuming that the pain by the port is the muscle healing as the port was placed in the muscle. I might be using the word wrong here but doesn't it spasm a but while it is reattaching itself? It's not where it knows it should be and its trying to fix itself. Give it some time. View it like a pulled muscle. If the pain is unbearable, of course, call your doctor. Good luck. Spud :hurray: -
Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies
spud.mama replied to jennypooh624's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought it a few weeks ago. I feel that I've learned most everything on this site that is in the book. There are some new things I learned in there though. I like the fact that I can take it to read when I can't be on the computer. i.e. my daughter won't let me have the computer, or my little ones HAVE to go to Mc Donald's play land. I'm about 3/4 way through it. If you do get it you have to understand on your own the little differences between LB and Bypass. Cuz they lump the two together sometimes when it shouldn't be. Like for example dumping, LBers don't do that but they say if you eat sugar you might... So you just gotta know some things on your own. It's easy reading. It's easy to take with you. I enjoy it--it doesn't hurt my brain. But it is a pricy book. Hope that helps. Spud :hurray: -
Probably not until end of May or in June. Seems like forever and I'm gettin kinda jealous of you people gettin it. :hurray: I know it is good to wait, I think it gives you time to learn to chew, and sip (I'm not getting that one very well. lol), and just ponder life change. I think I'm ready but everyone has surprises they weren't ready for. I'm glad you are on the 'band' wagon. LOL:lol: Spud :hurray:

I am a Scare Whore!! Maybe I should change my name to that. hehe I like to get on then off, then get right back on cuz usually it's different. I'll do that 3 times and take the better of the three. I actually bought a $40 scale an hour ago, maybe it won't fluctuate--that will take all the fun out of getting on and off, but for my simple amusement I will certainly try.

AW! Brandee is a cute name for your band. Mine's gonna be Gizmo! Spud

I have not been banded yet, I have hoops to jump thru for Aetna. I'm trying to do the 3 month multidisapplinary. I'm a little behind with the exercise program cuz of life issues, so I'm looking to be done with the hoop mid May, then just wait for insurence to aprove. I saw one of your other comments to someone. Did you really only walk 30 min a day? Nothing else? I view having to be a workout queen in order to lose my weight.

My 4 1/2 yr old had his tonsils and adnoids out 2 weeks ago. He did great! Luckily cuz of his age he had to stay over night so he could get Fluid from the IV. I hear that's the main thing to get fluids. Ice chips like crazy! He eventually had so many pop cycles that he didn't want anymore. lol Took a week and a day or two before he went back to school (I think I backed off of the pain meds too much, too soon, and regular Tylenal is a joke). She'll be fine, but as with any surgery prayer is a must. Spud

will my liver shrink?
spud.mama replied to tex_mexie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It also might depend what your starting weight is and how much you have to lose. I'm in the 275 and I only have to lose 13lbs before surgery. For me they did not specify how, just the amount. I'd ask your doc tomorrow. Good Luck. -
How do I slow down??
spud.mama replied to Mrs_Mauricio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't be banded yet, but I've had a few people tell me that they used the lid to the Water bottle to drink. I've also heard to use a little eye dropper type of thing, and a shot glass. Maybe that will help? Good luck. Spud -
I have not met anyone who has truly regretted getting the band. Everyone has said they would do it again even with all their complications. And remember not everyone has complication. If you are feeling "weak" you maybe a little anemic. Ya lose alot of blood with surgery. Take Iron and you may feel better in a few days. Don't forget you other Vitamins too. Don't regret the band. Good Luck Spud

Middle of the Night Gnawing HUNGER
spud.mama replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I wake us really hungry and can't go back to sleep cuz of it, I drink some milk (not warm, thats gross to me) or something to raise my blood sugar levels. Low blood sugar will do the same thing--waking you up in the middle of the night. -
I had a client once who had an oxygen tank and she was a little bitter about it and we discussed naming it since she had to be with it 24/7 and she said it was a 'pain in the ass' so we called it PITA. Thought that was funny you thought of it too, but you are feelin the LOVE for yours.

Those were a kick to read! Does anyone else have names for their band? I know Bandy and Billy are out there. By the way, Spud Mama came about cuz my name is Ada and my nick name is Ada Potada. So I get alot of Spud names. At times I am Mashed or Fried! Thanx for Playin! Spud Mama

Hello, I have not been banded yet, but a few months ago when I started on this site I looked at some of the stories of people struggling and I started to get discouraged about doing this. :tongue2: Then I realized that everyone of them said that they'd do it again in a heart beat. I also did what someone said earlier and that was to weigh the option of being overweight--and all that goes with it (an endless list), or go with the surgery and hope to be a success. :tt2: I also realized that we all need to vent and get support when we are having problems with things but don't always talk about the good, therefore, more is written. But there is alot of good stuff on this site.:w00t: I had to stop looking at the negative stuff but not be ignorant that things happen. Anyway, stop looking at the stuff and read the positive stuff. Hope that gives you something to think about, good luck with your decision. Spud Mama

:crying:Emotional effects of anesthesia
spud.mama replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so glad you posted this. I haven't been banded yet but I definitely needed to know this to be prepared. I'm on the max dose of my anti-depressants and I get bad postpartum depression but it helps me and everyone around me if I am prepared for it. Thanx, Spud :rose: -
Thinking of surgery? Scared? Read my story....
spud.mama replied to noahsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very encouraging!! Thank you!! -
I think that should be on the cover page of all these sites. That was awesome! You're the BOMB! :rose::thumbup: Spud :rose:

I need help with this problem of getting stuck in front of other people
spud.mama replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not been banded yet, but I am a very open person and by being so I have learned alot from other people. I have 3 clients who have been banded and if I wasn't open with them I wouldn't have known and I would never have been able to ask their advice. To me, you are causing your own discomfort by agonizing over it. Sorta like me--my house is OMG!!!! and yet I'm on the computer agonizing over having to clean it while I'm playing on the computer. lol :rose: I know some do the secretive thing but people will not understand if you don't educate them. (Don't get me wrong I know there are cases that ya just wouldn't want to tell them.) Be an ambassador. My opinion. Thanks for Playin! :rose: Spud  -
Hi. Not sure if I should be here...YET
spud.mama replied to ladybugnessa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nessa, Nessa, Nessa, Don't you know that as we women get older we never say we are ALMOST a certain age? You might as well say you are 48 and 3/4. LOL. You have come to the right place to learn all you need to know. I recently bought WLS for Dummies and I feel I've already learned everything from here and didn't really need to buy the book (but it's nice to read when my daughter wont let me have the computer). Read and learn and watch out for asking stupid questions. It gets frustrating even for me and I've only been on here a few months, I can only imagine the old-timers. But everyone here is really nice. But stay away from Dan (he has cooties!). But you haven't been banded yet so he might not bite. Take him with a grain of salt--he is very sarcastic and some people can't handle it. I on the other hand have recently been known to lose a job over being sarcastic so I can handle him. Good luck, Spud Mama:thumbup:
