From 316 lbs to 194 lbs in 10 months !!!
spud.mama replied to raeraepa's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You are a BANDSPIRATION!!!! -
The only diet I can lose weight on is a modified Atkins diet. So about the same thing. But for me its so hard to do for life--I like bread and baking. How I modified it was ANY meat, fish, eggs, chez, lunch meat, etc. was free. Most veggies were free (not pees, corn, and potatoes). And then anything under 5 carbs was free for all with in reason (even Dibs ice cream or cheasecake!!). It worked for me but havin issues doing it again. Good Luck!

Back to the topic at hand... When I was on here before surgery at one point I started to get discouraged cuz of reading the negative. I had to tell myself that I had researched it and know what I expect--good and bad--and had to make myself just read the positives or helpful information. That helped get away from the info overload. Hope that helps. Oh and I had surgery in June and it was a breeze! I am FINALLY out of bandster HELL!! Didn't lose much but a pound a week since surgery till my third fill. Don't stress there are many more successes than not--we all just like to vent our struggles more so (misery loves company). Good Luck!!

I am a firm believer that we can eat whatever we want. So how about ice cream and chocolate ONCE A WEEK?? I just moved and my journal has been packed for a while so I will have to review and think about my goals. Good thread!

What "proteinfest" are you talking about? What exactly did you do??

Hello Everyone!! I haven't been here in a while cuz I am inbetween homes right now and not following a diet AT ALL. STRESS!! I have been afraid to get on here cuz I feel guilty for not following the program. I am now at the point that people keep asking me if I've lost or what I'm eating... And today I told my best friend that I will tell her when I have lost (with a little bit of attitude). So I am very glad to hear ya'll are having a hard time too in your own ways. I perceive to have a place to live by next weekend, in the mean time I am just living to eat. lol But am here on this site and atleast thinking about what I need to do. I go for my 2nd fill in a few days, that should help more if I stop having dates with Ben and Jerrry . My doctors fill agressively so I need to get ready and practise taking small bites again and re-learn the rules. Problem is--my manual is in storage, but I know I only need it for the support. Ok, I'm done. Thanks for listening!

One of my co-workers was commending me for being able to do this surgery. I don't remember the exact words she said, but the ones I think of is STRENGTH and COURAGE. The past couple of days when I ponder the fact that I had the surgery I put my shoulders back and say to myself, "Yeah, it did take alot of strength and courage." I don't say it to be boastful but to acknowledge that I did (WE did) something that not everyone can do. To do something so drastic as have surgery to take back our lives knowing that we may have to PB in public, or turn down our favorite foods for a while or even for a lifetime if we cannot tolerate it, and in most cases to do it alone takes ALOT of STRENGTH and COURAGE!! That is very EMPOWERING!! Congrats to all of us for being a part of this EMPOWERING JOURNEY!!!

nccatvet~~I talked to my nurse today and she said that yes I most likely pulled a muscle and if it doesn't get better in a few days then to call her again. Mine doesn't hurt in the morning anymore, just starts in the afternoon and if I'm doing alot of bending or reaching. Once it started hurting at work today I panicked and that's when I called. And I've babied it since. Hopefully we will feel better soon. It's an all new journey!

I am about 2 1/2 weeks out and my port site started hurting a few days ago, kinda like it did a few days after surgery when I started walking and the jiggling hurts it. I never thought about it until now but I did bend over a couple times that seemed to pinch it. I wonder if maybe it pulled some stitches or the muscle the stitches are attached to. Should I worry? Should you worry?? I guess we'll have to talk to a doctor. My main worry is that I have heard of peoples port flipping--not really into that thought! Let me know if you learn anything about it.

I've been getting is during the day at work, but I'm not sure if it's cuz I'm a hairstylist and my muscles are weak cuz of taking time off. I always say my back doesn't want to hold up my boobs anymore. lol But I'm gonna have to check the hunger thing cuz I don't eat as much at work. Also, I'm 2 weeks out and all of a sudden my port hurts again and is swollen. IDKY?? Weird!

Hey Too Phat!! (I had to change it! :smile2:) I am TOTALLY with you!! This is definitely harder then I thought!! I thought that 2 weeks of liquids and 1 week mushies/pureed and 1 week of soft would be easy! It's less than a month--no prob! HA!!! I don't even think I made a week of liquids! I haven't really eaten too much of non-approved food (or so I think), But I haven't been exercising like I thought I would and I haven't lost a pound!! I figured I'm not eating much I should be able to lose weight, right?? I know I need to walk--I have a lot of excuses! (by the way excuses are like butts--we all have one (some are just less than others!)). OK I'm done venting. Thanks for Playin'!

That's awesome! It's great to have people like that. It makes us feel so good.

I'm having issues!!!! Might possibly be emotional eating issue but still...I WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING!!!! And I am a little. Not eating 'everything' but working my way to it!! I am suppose to start pureed and mushies tomorrow but have been pretty much eating those for a while, but eat spaghetti, ice cream, and just ate an English muffin! Now I know I'm not suppose to eat those, but I think the post surgery depression is kicking in for me. :frown: I gained 4 lbs over night a few days ago and when I thought I was doing good. Now I am a little stressed cuz we decided last week that we are going to move into a house with my husband (we have been seperated to 4 years) but have to find a house that doesn't do credit check or criminal check. And I have to move before I get evicted cuz I have a job now that pays, not peanuts, but only the shells. LOL hence why I have to move. Haven't been exercising just stressing. Boo Hoo Whoa is Me!! Thanks for listening.

I am there with you!!!!!!! I was 255 right before surgery, went down to a wavering 247ish within 4 or 5 days and then NOTHING!!! Now I have to admit that ice cream is a liquid  but I've only had that twice, and I've only really walked a couple of times. But DUDE if I'm eating less than 1000 cals, sumtimes way less, a day then shouldn't I be losing??!! Grrr!! I know it will happen and that I need to get my butt a walkin! AND I am happy to announce that I am wearing shorts that I haven't worn in 3 YEARS!! :blushing:

Hey Breanna! I saw that you're having surgery today. Hope all is well! Haven't seen you in a while, been worried about you. Can't wait to hear about your surgery. Good Luck!!
-
Yes it was your post! I'm glad it's not just me. I am 100% positive about my answer that the muscles are spasming cuz it's been moved, but of course ask your doc. I feel better and better every day! I am so energetic I want to walk but my fam it SO supportive of helping me (note the sarcasm) that it was an overwhelming NO. So we went to the movies (and then snuck into another one ). Now it's warm and very bright outside so I will wait for a bit. Hey, I met one of my mini-goals!! I have a beautiful amethyst ring that my fingers got too big to where comfortably, so I told myself I can't wear it regularly until I am below 250. YEA!! I can wear it now!! Now I gotta think of my next mini-goal and reward. I'd like to do a 5k in a few months. But weight wise I guess 235 is a goal cuz I was that weight the longest of my adult life.

I didn't stay over night and was happy about that, but I was great after surgery. To me walking SUCKS!! My port kills me when I walk for more that 10 minutes.
-
I am so sorry!! That TOTALLY SUCKS!!!! but I agree with Stephanie. Now you can be on a Journey with the Freedom Fighters!! lol See, I can do CHEZ too!!!

I was reading the posts earlier today and now I can't find the one I want to comment about. But someone mentioned muscle spasm around the port or incisions. That totally explains what I am feeling! I described it to my doc yesterday as feeling like Braxton Hicks (if you've been pregnant). He didn't have a clue. But muscle spasm is totally what it is!!!!!!!!! Mystery solved! Now after analyzing that thought from remembering something my chiropractor said is that the muscle (around the port area) has been moved and it knows its not where it is suppose to be so it is trying to adjust itself. That totallly make sense to me!!! Thank you whomever mentioned the muscle spam!

My doc says as long as the meds are the same size or smaller than a #2 pencil eraser then you can take it whole. So I take mine with no worries ('sept I can't take a handful anymore). But if you are worried call your pharmasist (sp?) they should know.
