Anyone notice Post Banders are a bit snobbish?
spud.mama replied to El Diablo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Way to make new friends Dan!! My opinion is.....on the fence. Most are real nice, BUT yes, some are a little upitty. However, if they have made it too goal--AWESOME!! I might be too if I ever get there. I think we will have earned the right. And I COMPLETELY understand their frustrations with people asking STUPID questions! I haven't been banded yet and I have had to hold my tongue on some posts and not say "DUH!!!" to them. I'm happy to see you got a couple banders to play with you. Do you feel better now? Spud.Mama -
To loose or not to loose.
spud.mama replied to wrabago's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know, have your doc call your surgeon to know exactly what to do and say in his reports, cuz you don't want to get denied cuz he put in there "not trying". Spud -
Hey Renee! I saw that no one responded yet so I thot I'd chat with ya. I have not been banded yet, but if you keep searchin you'll find menus on here somewhere. I've seen posts now and then. If I find some later I'll let you know. Good luck! Spud Mama

Questions on Ever Eating Normal
spud.mama replied to Linda3912's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't been banded yet, but from what I've gathered from this site is when your band is tight its not really recommended to eat that cuz it can get stuck. I just bought that book last night and I have noticed that some things that are different between LB and by-pass they lump together as being for both. -
HEY! Nice to talk to someone in Colorado!! I live in Fort Collins and I'm going to Dr Johnell in Greeley. I have Aetna which I've heard is somewhat hard to get them to cover. I tried another place and they were no help to me at all, but the insurance lady in Greeley is wonderful! I don't know what all you have done, but I've heard some insurance places will hold out for a long time just to make sure you are serious. I am so happy with my lady I'd suggest calling her, I'm sure she would help. Dr. Johnell is at North Colorado Medical Center Bariatric Center, Vanessa is the insurance lady. 1-866-569-5926 You can tell her "Ada Potada" suggested you to call. She really is knowledgeable. Hope you don't have to self pay. Good luck at whatever you end up doing. Spud Mama :cursing:

Odd question about burps (not pb'ing, just burps)
spud.mama replied to twiggysmiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think someone asked this a week or two ago. I have not been banded yet, but the answer I got from it was because you have to chew so much that you inadvertently do swallow air. Short, sweet, to the point, there ya go. :cursing: -
lol. u'd think they could let the air out like we do with zip-lock bags! Ya know, squeeze the air out b4 they stitch 'er up. LOL

Scared little (okay, not so little) newbie.
spud.mama replied to MrsBLoveLeigh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello! First I love the "smartwentcrazy"!! That is totally me, OK, maybe not, my son says my brain went 'bye-bye'. Maybe that would be a good name for me to use--brainwentbyebye. LOL (as long as I laugh!  ) Anyway! I haven't had the band yet, hoping for May. I just wanted to say that I saw someone on here call her's "Bandy". I thot that was great, I will name mine something. Maybe that will help with the foreign object issue--I feel the same way. Spud Mama  -
Had to ask.. how bad is the farting?
spud.mama replied to ashleysara's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
"Holy Farting"!! That's funny! Some questions hardly get any answer, but talk about bodily function and EVERYONE is in!! LOL I haven't had the band, YET! Just starting 3 month multi-dis. But I'm a hairstylist and don't think it would go over too well if I'm farting all the time--might lose a lot of tips on that one. lol -
I know, of course, that pop and coffee do, but I believe sugar and nutrasweet do also. did you change toothpaste??

Hello! I just went thru all this and am still in the process. First, you have to call your insurance company and find out if its covered. For me they told me where to go on the internet to get the particular hoops that I have to jump thru--but for the most part it was clear as mud and they would not explain it to me. I don't want to jump thru hoops on my own to find out it wasn't right. i.e. Weight Watchers and Curves won't work with my insurance. Then, find a bariatric place that is in you network--makes a big difference with the co-pay! My mistake was to believe the person who answered the phone--hind sight says talk to there insurance person directly. I have wasted a month thinking I was waiting for a call to set up my consult visit when in acctuallity they sent me a packet that said that they were out of network, and were no help in what to do. I finally found a place and have talked to the insurance person there a few times to make sure I know exactly what to do. I'm glad I did cuz they have the dietician and provider I can go to and they know what to put in the file. My regular doctor--I love her but she doesnt know a thing about this or what to put in the file. My consultation is tomorrow and my dietician and provider appts are next Tuesday! :cursing: Then I have to start the therepist supervised exercise. :tt2: I'm going for the 3 month multi-disaplainary one. Getter done!! :tt1: Good luck, hope this helps. Spud Mama

Need words of wisdom and encouragement.
spud.mama posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my consult appt is next Wed. I am anxious to get the diet thing going but don't want to lose weight b4 my appt cuz I heard everything goes off of that weight. :cheers2: Let me know if any of you have done this--I called the place I was told for physician supervised exercise, got off the phone and was ecstatic that I can get this going (with exception of waiting for consult. lol), then said OMG!! I have to wear some kind of workout clothes and actually workout in front of someone!! I huff and puff climbing to my apartment on the second floor!! What the heck am I going to do for an hour and fifteen minutes with someone "observing" me?? I am a hairstylist so I work in the public eye but when not working I'd rather be hiding from any judgemental eyes. I wont even comfortably go for a walk outside in daylight. :w00t: I NEED words of wisdom and encouragement! -

Thank you all for your encouragement. I appreciate it. I will persevere thru whatever hoops I have to jump thru no matter how much its out of my comfort zone. -
What do you look forward to most when you're no longer obese

Julie.ann, I hope you don't mind, I copied and pasted your post to send to 2 friends of mine. I want to get the band and a co-worker and I talked about it but she's young and not sure--she has time. And my best friend considered it a few years ago after emergency back surger but says she likes to eat too much to do it. I am so worried of losing her too young as she is in her early 40's and has diabetes. Anyway, thanks for your post, it helped answer my question of why do the band if the diet and excersise is the same as w/o the band.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
spud.mama replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello! This is my first post. I've been on a few times reading first the positive stories then now about the fills and discouraging posts. I have to say I'm rethinking the LB. Some it works for, some it doesn't. Most lose, some don't. And if diet and exercise are the same after as b4 (but doesn't work b4) then why LB?? I am 270, 5'7", would love to lose 120ish if that is possible. What's ur recommendations??
