I got banded Tuesday the 17th. I was first one on the table early morning. It was good that I had the early morning appointment. The registration room quickly filled up after I signed in. Surgery went without a prob. Though, I have 6 incisions instead of the usual 5. I have to ask doc why at follow up appointment. I had prior abdominal surgery and I believe he was checking to see if scaring would be issue. 03/17 Late morning into afternoon, I was doing quite well. I was a little surprised, I had a little pain but not too much discomfort. 03/17 Evening, I had problems peeing and it stung like hell to try to go. Doc/nurses said it could be from anastasia. they did an ultrasound on my bladder, I was very full. They decited to empty it out using a catheter, not a foley one, though. I was not too happy about it. I asked if the nurse could put some ladican gel on tube. I am so glad they did. 03/18 Wendesday noon time. still having problems peeing. they needed to drain me again, this time they didn't use ladican gel, I was ready to swing at people. though, pain from surgery was not bad. always a 2-3 on scale of 10. 03/18 afternoon. Upper gi done. Lap-band in place everything looks good. though, I drank the barium too quick. I started gettig sick and threw up once. Portarea started to really bother me. When I got back to my room about an hour later diherra set in. Doc/nurses decited that they needed to put a foley catheter in me. I asked if there a "laxative" for the urinary. they sad yes called flowmax. I said I would like to try it. At that point, It was clear I was spending an extra night in the hopsital. Though, I was able to start on my clear liquid diet is hospital. 03/18 around 11pm I finally peed on my own. I was so happy. I went about two more times during the night. Though, dirharra presisted. Thursday 03/19. Woot Going home! Wifey picked me up at 11am. I was still fighting direarra bad and gas pains. Today, gas pains for most part gone, diarerra is gone. and I have some pain at port area but not much to complain about. I have post 4.5 pounds since thursday.

Today I went back on "diet". There are some foods I would like to enjoy before my surgery. Though, they are not worth it. I would be upset if I gained weight (in fact, 1.5# this week )between being approved and surgery. Time to polish the halo, and flip back on top the head

I visit the Southwest often. I might be requested to make a trip out there about a month to 6 weeks after surgery. I am wondering if any other Biz travelers and or others had to deal with this situation? how it went? T.I.A.

For the past a couple days, I have been feeling more hungry. I have been on a 3 month die, I have been doing great, I really surprised myself with it. Though, this hunger is starting to bother me. I hope it passes.

I wondered why they chose someone that had WLS. I was worried that even though, he doesn't have mal absorption, he still has some type of restriction. It woouldn't be fair to others. Now, I am wondering if they choose him so they can go on a WLS bash rant.

See sig. by an Irish Doc no less. No Guinness until AFTER my surgery :LOL

My surgeon's office does not require it. Although, they strongly suggest to start, progressively, changing your diet to post op. I believe the liquid diet is to ensure that the liver is lean enough for surgery. My surgeon's office has had very few incidents where they could not continue the surgery due to a fatty liver. __________________

Go To Web Md and or mayo clinic and do a search. Mine actually became a very serious case of Diverticulitis ( It's active flare/infection of your condition). I have avoid foods that are not easy broken down. This is the reason why the posters mentioned to avoid nuts and seeds, They might get caught up in the pouches along your colon and get infected. This happened to me. Usually, it can be treated with steroids. More Serious cases, like mine, require surgery. I am a very rare case of it. I was only 23 when I my infection and surgery.

Thanks for the thoughts. What's funny is my surgeon is Irish from the Old Country. He just has to Celebrate after my surgery is done

I am Y member, and plan on working with a PT after my surgery. You might want to check your Insurance Company. I have Bc/Bs of Pa, they will refund me partial of the membership fee, if I attend certain amount of days at the Y in a years time.

SpiritDriven71 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it's called Famine mode. I had this talk with my diabetes nutritionist. I plateaued on my diet. We actually added calories to my diet, I started loosing weight again, at a slower pace but weight started coming off again. About 2 3 weeks ago on the show. Bob told the brown team to start eating more., for the same reasons. they were able to finally start dropping weight. -
Begging for help!!! Personal Choice/ BCBS insur. PA
SpiritDriven71 replied to JWL08's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Keystone East POS (Pa). Though, the requirements are the same. You will need a 3 Month Medically Supervised Diet not 6 months. Which goes quickly when you are going for your pre op screenings. BTW, where in PA are you located? Your Key is if you have any Co-morbidities with a bmi under 40. I started my 3 month diet at 43.2 BMI. When my information was submitted to BC/BS of PA. My bmi was 38.3, I have Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. I just got approved this past friday. Depending on where you are getting your surgery done. Some offices have a Insurance Coordinator. Also I have been in contact with BC/BS of pa. You can also review your Health benefits at www.ibxpress.com -

I had diverticulitis when I was 23. I had severe infection a fistula form between my colon and bladder. I had a colon resection done. After talking to my Surgeon We decited the best course for me would be the Lap Band over the By pass. The first thing out of my mouth was I able to get WLS based on my past surgery and history. I wanted to know right away what my options were. So go get a consult and get your answer. I am seeing alot people getting upset over insurance. Companies are cutting back Benefits. I just learned My Short term Disbility might not be there when I get my surgery. -
Documentation regading exercise program
SpiritDriven71 replied to daco525's topic in Insurance & Financing
It's a medically supervised diet and Exercise program With your PCP. Your PCP will document your eating/weight/activity for 3/6 months. going to WEIGHT WATCHERS/YMCA OR PERSONAL TRAINING programs ALONE will not satisfy it. It must be supervised by your MD. Now the doc might recommend these programs and document them for you. -
