Why did u choose sleeve not the band ?
SuzanneB replied to Suko75's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had the lap-band put in in January of 2009. I had great sucess for the first 6 months (lost 48 pounds) Then the reflux started. I had to have all of the Fluid removed from my band to get it to stop. We would try to step up the fluid, but everytime we did the reflux would return. I finally told my doc to remove all fluid and I was going to go on my way. In May of 2013 I started to have severe pain. I thought it was my gallbladder going bad. Went to the ER and discovered that my stomach had come up through the band and within 2 hours I was in the OR having the band removed. The Doctors in my area will no longer do the band surgery. They are finding that over 3 out of 5 bands have to eventually be removed because of this type occurance. Most often on an emergency basis. Because I did not feel that I was at the end of my weight loss journey, I opted for a 2nd surgery an had the sleeve done on 12-9-13. I'm just shy of 10 pounds lost in 2 weeks and very optomistic I will be able to reach my final goal weight with this surgery. -

Before I had my lap band remove, I would get that pain if I ate too much.

Sorry to hear that. I bet as long as you don't flaunt your weight loss and you support her on her journey, thing will mend themselves. Wishing you the best.

Today was the first day my weight was down! :)
SuzanneB posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had sleeve surgery on 12-9-13. Was I the only on that came home from the hospital weighing more than the morning of surgery? I was up 13 pounds after my 2 days in the hospital. Today is the first day that my scale shows that I have lost weight! woo hoo. Down 5 pounds, I'll take it! -
When will i start to feel ok?

Yes,I'm also having bowel issues. Tons of gas and just a bit of diarrhea. I don't think I'll have a solid bowel movement until I start eating solid food again. I'm also sleeping on my stomach - have been since Tuesday night. I surprised myself when I woke up on my stomach. No real appetite - but I try my best to get in 60g of Protein a day. I come close. Love my sugar-free pop cicles. I just wish it was over 10 degrees outside so I could walk around the block or do something. Its just too darn cold & snowy here to go out anywhere. -

Hey Ashley, I'm 45 years old and I live in Syracuse, NY. I've been married to my husband for just over 9 years. I'm a mother to 2 boys, 23 & 24 years old. I have 3 step-kids, 2 step daughter-in-laws & one sweet little granddaughter. I work full time for the phone company and I am the vice president of a homeowners association. So its safe to say I have a busy life. My gas pains have gotten a bit better tonight. The scale was up last night and this morning. i think I'm going to stay away from that until next Monday, give myself a week to get rid of all the IV fluids and back to feeling a little more normal. Going to bed now - talk to you all again soon. -

OH MY GOD - This is awesome. You have all listed ALL of the systems and problems that I have been having. I am up a few pounds and that was a bit heartbreaking for me. I have terrible gas pains also, you can hear my stomach grumbling from across the room. I'm not terribly hungry either but I'm making sure to drink the Protein drinks. Skipping my Bunco night tonight as they are mainly a food and drink gab fest for us. I'm not ready to be around all that food and not being able to eat yet, so I got one of the neighbors to sub for me. I went back to work today. My job is sitting with no lifting or anything. Everything went well. I'm just a bit tired. I'm glad you are all out there - makes me feel like I'm not alone in this. I'm sorry you are all feeling the same aches & pains as I am, but when I read your posts, I'm like, "yea, I have that!" "Yea, I know just what they your talking about" Thanks for being there. -

I have been home from the hospital about 3 hours now. After a bit of a nap I thought I'd check this site. Surgery went well for me, thank goodness! I have mostly gas pains & cramps. Not any real pain. After sharing my room at the hospital with a lady who had the by-pass, I feel that I made the right choice. She did nothing but complain about pain ALL night long. About 3:30 - 4:00 she did apologize for keeping me up all night. I'm on a liquid diet for another 2 weeks, but that is OK. I have lost about 1 pound per day this way. I'll take it any way I can get it. Talk to you soon. Hope everyone did well. Suzanne -

Yes Kayla, I am getting nervous. I was thinking how can I be so excited about something that scares the crap out of me. Sherrie, thanks for the email address, I will use that. I have a ton of support from friends and family, but nothing will compare to having someone in the exact same boat with me. My email is (sudami@twcny.rr.com) and I welcome anyone to contact me. Wow SlimmerMe, You have really done your homework. I came up with some of the items, but you have thought of everything else. Thank you, I will be adding some of your suggestions to my list. My surgery time is 6:45 am EST. I will be spending the night in the hospital. I am on a full liquid diet and have been since 1-1-09. I have had an 8.8 lb loss in 7 days. I would love this to continue. Wishing you all the best with your surgeries. [/url] -
Pre-op Diet- what protein drink did you buy
SuzanneB replied to daqui26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Atkins Advantage the best. Nice flavor choices, chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Mocha Latte shake is my favorite. Atkins has the lowest Protein, at 15-17g. I found the EAS AdvantEDGE a bit watery. Slim*Fast low carb to me tastes the worst. But just like anything else, everyone will like something different. You just have to try them all. Suzanne -

Hi All, My name is Suzanne, I am also a January 12th. I can't wait. I did so much research and interviewing Dr's in my area. I'm thrilled with my final selection and I know that this is the right choice for me. I'm 45 years old, married for the 2nd time to the kindest soul. We will have our 10th anniversary in November and what I am looking forward to the most, is him being proud to have me on his arm. That has slipped as my weight increased over the years. I have 2 children, 3 step children, 2 step daughter-in-laws and one beautiful granddaughter, so its save to say my live is busy. I'm looking forward to being actively involved with the family again, as I have let my weight sideline me as of late. I have been placed on a liquid diet since 1-1-09 and will be until 2 weeks post-op. I'm sure I will find someone else here that REALLY wants to chew something. Glad to be here and know there are others in my boat. Good luck to us all ands here's to a thinner 2009!!
