Beginning as a low BMI bandster

    THANK YOU!!!! 156 today!!!!
  2. I am almost 6 weeks out and am just now where I can stand any pressure on my port site. I can lay on my stomach but it isn't very comfortable. My Dr said it was fine to lay on side or belly.

Beginning as a low BMI bandster

I am doing great! It was a lil painful at first but worth it. I have not received a fill yet...have to wait 6 weeks. My weight loss is slow but I know once I have some restriction it will come off! I do not regret it at all and anyone who has issues with it can just get over it! Good luck to you and let me know what you decide. (I do miss being able to drink a cold beer!) Started at 175 Today 159.5

Beginning as a low BMI bandster

I am 42 yrs old and have had my band since 8/16/10. I would also like to see 125lbs again. I had to beg my Dr to do the surgery. In fact, I have been asking for about 3 yrs since my hubby had gastric bypass. My weight has gone up & down 20+ lbs over the past few yrs. I could no longer control it with diet and exercise as I had done before. I damaged my knee last Oct working out daily with a trainer. I had to stop exercising and gained 25lbs. I started out at 175 lbs and have heard many different comments about my decision to have the surgery. My family Dr approved it with flying colors. She made the statement that "you dont wait till a patient has pneumonia before you treat them for a sickness." She has seen my weight climb and was very supportive. I have had to listen to people say "you arent THAT big" and it makes me furious! Why wait till you're 100lbs over weight to get help??!!! I always answer that with "you carry around 50 extra lbs and tell me how you feel" It seems to shut them up! I wish you the best and remember, no one can make this decision but YOU! The weight was affecting me physically and emotionally and thats no good! I am worth every penny I spent on the procedure!!
  5. Sagreenia, I am at the same place as you are! My surgery was 8/16 and my 1st fill is scheduled for 9/27.. I cannot wait to have it because I have absolutely no restriction. I can eat normal foods now....havent tried breads, Pasta or a lot of meats. Fish and ground meat goes down great! My port site is still a little sore and my Dr said its perfectly normal to still be tender. I lost 12.5 lbs the first 2 weeks but this past week have not lost any.....actually the scale goes up and down within 2lbs each day. I called today to see if they would give me a fill at 4 wks and they said no. Guess I'll just have to wait! Its nice to have someone going through the exact same thing as I am. It reassures me that I'm OK. Good Luck!
  6. I sympathize with you completely. I was banded 8/16 and still have port pain. I also find myself "holding" that incision. I went to the Dr for a 2 wk check-up and he assured me this was normal. I was in terrible pain fo the 1st 10 days then things started improving. I had serious "buyers remorse" that first week! I could not believe I had done this to myself. I promise it will get better! Keep your chin up and remember why you did this in the first place. Best wishes!!

    New To this....

I was banded the same day as you and I am just starting moist meats....tuna with a lil mayo, baked fish, scrambled egg. I had mashed potatoes after 10 days. Sounds like we are on the same track which is what my Dr suggested. I only eat 2-3oz at a time.

    August rush 2010!!!

Hello to everyone who joined me in making a change for the better this past month. I am just wondering how everyone is doing and what you are eating. Today is day 15 with my band and I'm still a little sore at port site. I feel fine otherwise. Eating is much more enjoyable now that I can actually have something other than pureed stuff. I have had scrambled egg with cheese, tuna, baked fish and peas & carrots so far. I'm keeping it within 2-3 oz at a time and have had no problems. Still drinking mostly water and my protein shots. I'm having a hard time getting rid of a UTI that I got a few days after surgery....on my 2nd antibiotic. Down 12.5 lbs!
  9. Hello All, I've had my band 10 days now and am wondering when I'll get used to these new sensations I'm having. Hunger has definitely kicked in. For the past 2 nights I've waken up around 2am with these weird pains....kinda like really strong hunger with pain mixed in. Has anyone else had this? Its almost a little nauseating too. I have this during the day also but not nearly on the same scale. I also have had a pain in my back since surgery that does not go away. Its smack dab in the middle of my back and a heating pad has not helped. I thought about going to a chiropractor but am scared he'd want me to lay on my stomach. Cant do that yet because I'm still really sore around my big incision. It looks like I swallowed a tennis ball just underneath it. When I call the Drs office, the nurse tries to assure me this will pass. I realize that I had surgery but dang I'm ready to feel "normal" again. How long did it take to heal before you felt normal? Do you continue to have strange feelings in your tummy? THANKS!

    strange feelings in tummy

Thanks everyone for the feedback!! I went in yesterday for a 2 week checkup and My dr says everything is normal. He said the knot that I have is from the port attaching the way it does. I had the Realize band and the port has these metal teeth on the back side that dig into your muscle and attach it. He said it will eventually go away and that all of my pains are normal. I am feeling a lil bit better each day but am still very tender at the port incision. I must say though that food is a lot easier to tolerate now that I can have something other than pureed stuff. Tuna tasted like heaven! Best wishes to all of you!!!
  11. Just wanted to share something I found today. Dannon makes GREEK yogurt and 1 5oz cup has 12g protein! I bought it at WalMart today, they were $1 each......got strawberry and blueberry!! I'm not too crazy about the protein drinks and this is double the protein of any other yogurt I've found.

    8 lbs down!

Hey Yall! I just wanted to say that I've made it through my first week and I've lost 8 lbs! This has been one tough week but the feeling of seeing the scale move makes it all worth it! Shelly

    Banded & Gaining!

I am following Dr's orders and am consuming 2oz at each meal. I "eat" 3 times a day....mashed taters, grits, scrambled egg, cream Soup. I do get hungry between meals and have a Protein Drink or snack..applesauce, yogurt or pudding...only 2oz! I am also constantly drinking too and YES, I'm still hungry. This surgery is hell to recover from. I sure dont want to have to suffer through it again if my band slips nor do I want to have to pay again! I hope you are having better days!!

    Are You Telling People?

I am a "low BMI" bandster and I don't care who knows! I've told all of my family and friends. Most of them have been supportive but some have said "you aren't THAT big!" And my response to them is.....You carry around 60 extra pounds and then come tell me how you feel! I have fought this weight all my life and I can lose it but I suck at keeping it off and have torn my knee up in the process. My band is what is going to keep me from being 100 lbs overweight. 99% of the time spent with family and friends involves food. They needed to know why I'm not eating! Besides my hubby & cousin have had gastric bypass and a couple close friends are banded....I have a built in support group!

    Banded & Gaining!

I was banded 8/16/10 and also have a low bmi. I also have the swolen preggo feeling! GasX strips seem to help a little. I would not test the band this early by eating stuff you arent supposed to. I know you are starving and at the same time probably are as anxious as I am to see a difference in your weight/size. I was scared to death 2 days after my surgery when a close friend had to have emergency surgery due to band slippage from vomiting. You had this in order to improve your life, why cause yourself any danger. I would not get a fill from another Dr. Trust the one you trusted to operate on you.

    are gummy vitamins ok?

The gummies I have found do not have any iron in them but my Dr said I could do gummies because they are the ONLY vitamin that does not make me vomit on an empty stomach. The ones I have are sort of round, not bear shaped, and they taste just like candy. I am careful to chew really really good and have not had a problem. I got them at walmart and cant remember the brand.

    What is this??

I am new to this but I didnt think you could eat that much solid food at one time. Have you tried eating less to see how you feel. Everything I have from my Dr says 2oz. I do know after time you can eat more because I have friends who can eat "normal" small meals but they are a couple years out.

    Hungry again

I was banded the same day as you. Since Friday I have been eating thin grits, soft scrambled egg, egg drop Soup, & mashed potatoes. When I eat its only a SMALL amount and I take about 15-20 minutes to get it down. My Dr approved this because I got a UTI from dehydration and needed something in my belly to take antiobiotics. I have had no problems eating so far. Today I woke up starving and this hungry feeling has kept coming back as my pouch emptied. Good Luck!

    Gas problems anyone?

Hello All! I am new here. I was banded 8/16/10 and am a lil miserable due to gas. My belly feels bloated & I am constantly belching and it sends a pain through my collar bone. This happens even with the smallest of sips. Cold beverages seem to make it worse. I cannot get all of my fludis in and had to have an IV yesterday. Has anyone else experienced this? GasX does not help. My tummy is constantly gurgling too. Thanks for your help! Shelly

    Gas... stay away from me!

I was banded 3 days after you and I find that GasX peppermint strips help quite a bit. They dissolve on your tongue. I also have the liquid out problem. Looks like this is normal.

    Gas problems anyone?

Yeah, It passes from both ends but my tummy makes more almost immediately. I wake up bloated and full of gas and it stays that way. This has been like this for a week now and I get no relief.
  23. I'm sorry all of you are having these feelings but it comforts me to know I'm not alone. I was banded 8/16/10 and had to have an IV due to dehydration. My tummy stays full of gas and I am in constant pain because of it. Tried GasX but it only relieves it for a few minutes. Seems like my body keeps producing it. I cannot wear pants I wore prior to surgery because I'm so bloated. Has anyone else had this problem? I keep telling my self that this will be worth it in the end once this passes. I have had my share of tears since surgery. I wish you all the best! Shelly
