I was just banded march 5th and lost 15 lbs on my pre-op liquid diet I had to do for 2 weeks. They told me to drink 4-6 (I usually had 3 or 4 a day) Atkins shakes. I like strawberry the best but they have chocolate and vanilla also. You can get them at Wal-mart. The only other thing I could have was clear broth, sugar free popcicles, sugar free Jello, and any calorie free beverages (crystal light). Also drink lots of Water (8 glasses a day)

Half Way!!!! - 71 lbs!!!!!! Four months Post-op!!
emurphy commented on julie.ann's blog entry in My Secret Journey
I was banded on march 5th and had lost 15 lbs. pre-op adn now 21lbs all together. I just started eating soft mushy foods this week and am afraid to eat much because I want to lose wt. Did anyone have this problem? I guess I'm so used to yo-yo dieting I still have a fear that the wt. is gonna come back. Hopefully after I get my 1st fill it will give me more confidence that I'm gonna keep the wt off and I will be able to eat more with less guilt. -
I am feeling great!!! The first few day were a litle rough but not unbearable. I used the Gas X dissolvable strips to help relieve the gas pain in my chest and shoulders. I also took milk of magnesia (2 Tbsp) per my dr to help move the gas and to keep away from constipation. I ended up having an allergic reaction to the pain med so I have done this with no pain med at all. The worst pain was just around the port site when getting up and down. You will be fine!!! Make sure you drink lots of fluids after so you don't get dehydrated also. I am a nurse so I'm trying to think of anything that can make it easier for you. The first few days I wasn't drinking enough so I had my husband get me some sugar free poweraid to help my electrolytes and keep me from getting dehydrated. I'm so excited for you!!! Keep me posted on your progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else noticing this?

I have to say that I see where you are coming from. I researched and wanted to have this surgery done for 2 years. My insurance would not pay 1cent for wt loss surgery. I knew taking out a loan was not an option either. I worked really hard to get a good bonus at work and was able to pay cash for my surgery last week. I believe since paying this large amt of money I will be motivated to work much harder and not fail. -
I had my surgery last Thursday and I also had to pay cash (9990). I was so excited until the last minute and I got really nervous. However, the entire procedure was done in 30 minutes. Surgery was scheduled for 7Am and I was in the car on the way home by 9:30am. Please don't get too nervous, it's not that bad; very quick, simple procedure. Best of Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gross, but I have to warn you...
emurphy replied to maestrita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc suggested to take milk of magnesia 30ml (2 Tbsp) daily after surgery until you start passing gas and have a bowel movement. It worked and I had no problems. My surgery was last thursday and I have had 2 bowel movements. I am also a nurse and think this is the best med to take. -

I'm so jealous of you all!! I started my liquid diet 6 days ago and have to do it for 14 days. The only food I can have at all is sugar free jello (gross) fat free broth, and sugar free posicles. I have 6 protein shakes a day and lots of water. I am HUNGRY!!! Suregey date 3/5 then 2 weeks post of same diet. No food for 4 weeks. CRAZY!!! But, I have already lost 7 lbs. -

Hello, My name is Beth and I have not been banded yet. I am going to be self pay and have been trying to find the best price without having to go out of the country. I live in Texarkana,TX and found some information about TLC edge in Dallas which is only a few hours from my home. Does anyone have any comments on this place to help me make my decision? Or has anyone found another place that does the surgery for $10,000 or less in the US?
