It is very expensive to get the floro here in the states. I, too, had my lapband done in Mexico as have three of my girlfriends. We have gone to Mexico once (at about our one year anniversary) but have found a wonderful doctor that we can see here. Dr. Helmut Billy has a practice in Ventura but comes up to Truckee once a month or so to do fills (and, I am sure, to spend some time with his family in Tahoe) - he does not use Floro but is great at giving fills and is a wonderful doctor. I do not have my phone book with me but you can either write me back and I will get you the number next week or. I think I found him in the phone book for his Ventura practice. they will give you the number for his Truckee clinic. He is wonderful! I live in Tracy, Ca. Are you in Sacramento? Have a great day

I had my first fill on July 5th also in Mexico and am looking for a fill doctor in Northern Ca - or actually within 6 hours or so.... so Santa Barabara, Bakersfield, San Francisco and above that area - Who is Dr Billy and I think I read that he is in Truckee- at least part of the time, correct? any info or ideas would be apprieciated - prices, do they do floro? thanks so much for the help - I have lost 31 pounds to date and am thrilled with my band. Thanks again Reb

Hi - I was banded on may 11th by Dr Kuri in Mexico. I have had very little problem and have lost about 20 pounds - 18 right away and about 1 a week since then. I had some port pain at week 2 but it went away and i have not had any problem until 2 nights ago when my port area really started to hurt again. Could I have dislodged it or something? It is sore enough to not be able to lie on that side, which I have been able to do almost since surgery and I get sharp pulling pain when I reach or bend. Is this normal 5 weeks out? Thanks.

Hi - just got home from Mexico - had my surgery on Thurs. Some of my incicions are puffy and itchy from the bandaids - when we removed the bandaids, a few of the steristips came off - what can I do about the itching - should I take a benedryl (still on clear liquids) use cream benedryl, leave them alone - one posting said to use a white cream (?) but not until they were completely closed and I am not sure that they are - It has only been 3 days - thanks for any help I can get

Hi - I was banded on May 11th - Dr Kuri - he is great, everything went like clockwork and I am still so blown away that I actually did this. Have lost about 12 pounds in 11 days but I am expecting that when I go on soft foods, things will change. Good luck and congrats Reb -
I don't know if this is still active - I live in the Central Valley - Tracy Ca. - anybody from around here?

Hi Rett, Let's see, Dr Kuri and staff were outstanding, the hospital was beautiful, clean, staff was great. A little uncomfortable with the Spanish/English stuff. Doctors spoke beautiful English as did, for the most part, Dr Kuri's office and nursing staff. The hospital nurses were a bit hard to understand and did not speak as much English. My daughter was there and she was able to talk to them but many of the people who did this at the same time as I did, did not have anyone who spoke Spanish and did just great. Surgery was fine - quick, put me out and then it was over. The first day was rough. Both my friend and I were wondering if we had made a mistake. I felt pretty miserable - sore, couldn't turn over or get out of bed easily - just out and out rotten - felt pretty isolated with the language barrier too. The nurses however, really tried to communicate and they were very, very sweet - every one of them. 2nd day was so much better. The hotel was very clean and very nice - it is not a resort (had a small pool and a nice restaurant). I was very comfortable as far as accommodations go. Hunger?, I really haven't been too hungry but my head thinks it should eat once in a while - a sip of water really helps. The only problem that I have had is a reaction to the band aids. My incisions have become small welts that are itchy and miserable. This happened when I got home last night - I called Dr Kuri and was pleasantly surprised that he answered the phone himself. How cool is that? Told me to use Cortaid cream and keep the bandages off - not a big deal. Would I do it again? - so far absolutely! But I am still not on foods and have no idea if this is going to work (I have done my research but have gone on so many diets that it is hard to believe this will do the trick) I start liquids that can go through a straw tomorrow morning - if you write me back I will keep you posted - you can write direct if you would like @ rebncor@caldsl.com Let me know what you think and feel free to ask any questions - I am actually so incredibly thrilled that I finally did this. My life has changed and I feel like I am on my way Reb

Hi - This is very new to me (actually chatting on the computer) - My lap-band procedure is scheduled for next week May 11th with Dr Kuri. I am very excited as well as very nervous. Have read everything I could find on this procedure as well as on Dr Kuri. I have been so unhappy for the the last couple of years. This feels like a light at the end of the tunnel - at least I have hope again. My two daughters ( 18 and 14) are so frightened about me having surgery and in Mexico as well - I have explained about my health bith physical and mental but they are so scared and I am a little fightened too.

Hi - One of my daughters goes to the University of California @ Santa Barbara and she is taking the train and meeting me down in Mexico - She is 18 1/2. Dr Kuri is in Tijauna (is that how you spell it?) right across the border. My insurance won't cover it either - my sister had this procedure done a year ago by Dr Kuri and she has been thrilled with the results.
