A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
bluehill replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have NO idea where that is. And since I don't, I'm obviously of no help. The closest support group for me is an hour away, so I don't even bother with that. This forum has become my support group. And the convenient thing is, it's as close as my computer and available 24/7. -

April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
bluehill replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I definitely haven't found my sweet spot yet, so I have another fill scheduled for next week (my fourth). The amount of restriction I have at this point makes me eat more carefully, more slowly, and take smaller bites -- and when I'm careless, I have suffered episodes of PBing. What I have not experienced, however, is a restriction on the amount of food I can eat. I would like not to be able to eat a large volume of food, even if it is only steamed veggies! September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class [pool was closed due to chlorine problem. grrrr] -

Ceparano, a 20-min workout when you're not feeling well is definitely the equivalent of a regular 30-min session. With all the sweat and extra effort put out by the body, it's probably worth even more, so please give yourself full credit! -

Welcome, Melissa! Glad to have you join us on this journey. Sounds like you've done your homework and are ready for this life-changing event. I was banded less than five months ago, and my BMI has already dropped more than 10 points (55.4 to 44.6). So that magical BMI number is attainable, I promise! BTW, I live in the Berkshires, so we're almost neighbors. -
April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
bluehill replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well the month is half over, and I'm a third of the way there. Which is good progress, since I just started on Monday, 9/11. After five straight days of good exercise, SHE RESTED ON THE SIXTH DAY! I have three work crews here simultaneously -- the painters are doing the house exterior, the carpenters are building a firewood shed, and a third crew is felling and cutting up trees for firewood. Obviously I can't leave the house and go to the gym with all these shirtless guys on the property. Plus, I love to lounge around and watch men work! September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim -
This one's on us, Brandy. And here your session is open-ended, not limited to the 50-min. hour!

Day 3, and I'm right on course (see below)! Julie, what a felicitous meeting on the elevator! Now tell me what goes on in an abs class. Kat, my five cords of firewood will be delivered over the next two weeks. Do you have any extra time in your busy schedule for stacking duties? I'll make it worth your while! heh -

Because you're on the liquid diet, you obviously can't drop your food intake. Which leaves physical activity for burning calories. But why do you need to boost a weight loss that is already excellent? My feeling is, the liquid diet phase is not the time to make yourself crazy with increasing weight loss, since it's mostly beyond your control anyway. -

Wow, that really is a phenomenal loss, Jewels! Congratulations! Hoping this success will make it easier for you to get through the difficult liquid-diet phase. Treat yourself kindly in other ways, and know that YOU CAN DO THIS! I am just 4.5 months out, and my BMI has already dropped from 55.4 to 44. I am so thrilled! Lap band is really working for me. -

Day 2 of my new exercise regimen, and I'm hoping to stay focused on DOING this. I agree with Julie that a one-hour class plus a 30-min. lap swim counts as 2 sessions (since the class is all one thing). But on the slim chance that I might actually be able to exercise a total of 15 days in the time left, I'm so far calculating just by the day. -

bluehill replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
O.K., I accept the challenge as redefined. Thanks, guys (and I mean that in the mostly female sense!). How about today, I did one hour of movement class and one half-hour of lap swim. Do I earn two sessions from that? -
she didnt even numb the port area with some cream or anything Hmmm. I've had three fills, and my doctor has never put any numbing cream on the port area. Since the procedure never hurt beyond a tiny pinprick, it never occurred to me to ask. Isn't it weird when they have you sit up with this big ol' needle still sticking out of you? Again, I'm totally unfamiliar with such a procedure. I lay down, he inserts the needle and does the fill, then removes the needle, and I sit up. That takes, like 90 seconds. Or less. I have a fourth fill scheduled at the end of the month. I have achieved a certain amount of restriction wherein I have to be really careful HOW I eat, e.g., slowly, small bites, etc. But I still have not felt restricted with regard to quantity and can easily eat a large plateful. I try to balance this by making wise food choices, so basically we're talking a seemingly unlimited capacity for veggies. Which kind of makes me crazy, because I was counting on the band to restrict the volume of food I can eat.

Oh please don't say that! I just got started TODAY, and I'm hoping to have enough time to complete the challenge! Last week was a disaster for me, so I never followed through on my good intentions. But this morning I signed up at our local community center/health club and did a one-hour movement class followed by a half-hour of lap swim. Yay me!!! -
