Hello all. I'm new to this forum, but not new to surgery. My husband had RNY in 2001. I had Lap Band surgery in 2006. I lost 25 pounds, then promptly gained it back. I'm afraid that I'm getting Peripheral Artery Disease, so I've got to shape up. I came here because before surgery, my surgeon's nutritionist told me I could only fiber from certain sources (I think only soluble fiber). When I asked "What about insoluble fiber?" she said that I could get that in my diet. I thought 'What? If we can barely get enough protein in our daily food intake, how are we also supposed to get fiber - since few foods have both?' I'll look for a thread about this. Thanks.

Vitamin supplements...
woteacher replied to razberry*kisses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, In Living the Low Carb Life, author Jonny Bowden writes that high dose Biotin (about 9000 units - mg, mcg?) can be helpful for weight loss. I don't remember exactly how that is supposed to work, but it is also a supplement that's supposed to be good for hair and nails. Yes, I had some hair loss, not as much as my RNY friends, but I promise it is temporary. After I followed the supplement advice in chapter 4 of Living the Low Carb Life for a couple of months (not necessarily sticking to a low carb diet), my triglicerides had been cut in half and my HDL was way up. I don't think my Dr. necessarily believed me, but she said "Keep doing whatever you are doing." Good luck. -
Doing So Easy Mucoid Plaque Cleanse prior to surgery

I had my massage therapist do something called uncorking. I'd never heard of it before. She said the purpose was to loosen any waste that was stuck in the "corners" of the intestine. The next day, I honestly think it worked. I had been drinking lots of water in the days before because it was right before my wedding, and I imagine that had something to do with it. Justy MHO. -
ask a nutritionist - free advice offered

Thank you for your generosity of your time. The nutritionist I saw before surgery only recommended soluble Fiber supplements like Benefiber. Are there any insoluble fiber supplements we post bands can take? -
Pasta is probably the worst - also bread - cold cereals like shredded wheat (predictable b/c of how it expands when soaked in milk), beef. Turkey is better - my family uses ground turkey instead of ground beef now. Does anyone's fiber supplements restrict you? Does it matter which supplement you take?
